I hopeeveryone has been making the most of this wonderful change inweather! I managed to run my 50th Parkrun on the weekend and playour second trial game for football. The sun certainly made theseexperiences much more enjoyable. With that said, I’m really looking forward towelcoming parents and community into our wonderful school this week for variousassemblies and the Easter Hat Parade. As we near the end of term, I want to take this opportunity to farewell a wonderfulcolleague of ours. As you may be aware, Mr Osborn will be finishing up his time atMannering Park PS. Benn has been an amazing, positive role model within ourcommunity. While he won’t be working in a full-time capacity, I hope we cancontinue to have him around. Thank you, Benn, for all your hard work, dedicationand passion for our school and the support class.TAKING PHOTOS AND VIDEOSThis is a very important message. On the second page of this newsletter, you will seeour policy on taking photos and videos at school. I urge all parents and carers toread and respect this policy. Photography and Filming PolicyMannering Park Public SchoolTaking photographs or videos in schoolsSometimes people want to take photographs or videos in schools. Generally, taking photographs or videos on departmental premises should not occurunless the principal is satisfied there is a good reason. Where applicable, staffand parental or student permission should be obtained.NSW Department of Education (Legal Issues Bulletin 35 - Misuse of technology in schools)When CAN I take photos? While my child is by themselves (this includes on stage) While my child is accepting an award After an assembly or performance (child and family only) Outside of school grounds During an event, but only when my child is ‘in the frame’The person taking the photo needs to consider that no other student orstaff member is visible in the photo. If you accidentally capture someoneelse in the photo and intend on uploading the photo to social media, please ensure you use the cropping tool to cut their photo from the image. There is no power from the school to prevent people from taking photographs orvideos outside the school. However, if concerns are held, inquiries will be made by anExecutive Teacher with the person involved and, where appropriate, he or she may beasked to stop. If the person refuses the request and the Executive Teacher hascontinuing concerns, the police will be contacted. When CAN’T I take photos and film? No video recordings or filming on school grounds During group performances or group presentations Large groups of students (including classes)The school will allocate a staff member to take photos and videos whichwill be uploaded to the school’s social media page. Parents and carers canaccess these photos. If the event is not being photographed or filmed, it isbecause of a direction from the Principal. There will be reminders throughout the assembly, performance or presentation aroundphotography and filming.Q: What if I have permission from another parent to take photos of their child? This may be okay. Just let that child’s teacher know.
