The first step in projecting future student population is locating each current Klein I.S.D. student on a computer generated map. PASA has “geoͲcoded” each student using a latitudeͲlongitude coordinate corresponding to his or her address. The data file used for this analysis was downloaded from the District’s database in September, 2014, which contained 49,237 EEͲ12th grade students. Of those, 486 students had addresses that were out of the District, that were not street addresses, or were otherwise unmatchable. PASA also needed to understand where areas of growth and decline have recently occurred within the District boundaries. The redistribution of students within existing homes in K.I.S.D. is one driving force of enrollment change in this District, so it is important that PASA understands which neighborhoods are gaining and losing students. To accomplish this task, PASA also analyzed datasets from the Fall, 2013 and the Fall, 2012. Enrollment Trends Resident Students by Planning Unit The first set of maps in this chapter shows the total number of students currently living in each Planning Unit. Also shown are the percent and absolute change in students living in each Planning Unit between September, 2013 and September, 2014. The purple and cyan colors on the map represent planning units that have lost students, or have stayed virtually stationary in the last year, with the red and orange planning units showing the larger gains in student population. The largest gains are easy to see located in the northern portions of the District. Resident Students by Attendance Zone This data is also shown at the attendance zone level on the next maps in the chapter. Nitsch, Epps Island, Kaiser, Krahn, Theiss, Haude, Hassler, and Kohrvilleall lost students in the last year, while Bernshausen and Blackshear each gained 74 students and Mueller gained 121. Kleine, Doerre, and Schindewolf all lost intermediate students this year, while Ulrich gained 85 and Krimmel gained 90. At the high school level, all attendance zones gained high school students, with the 3RSXODWLRQ DQG 6XUYH\ QDO\VWV 'HPRJUDSKLF 8SGDWH 2FWREHU

biggest increases coming in Klein Oak and Klein Forest. Changes in ethnicity of the student population and free and reduced lunch students are also shown in this chapter. The District had quite a few elementary attendance zones that actually lost free and reduced lunch students. Resident Students by Subdivision and Apartment Complex The last chart in the chapter shows the recent trends in geoͲcoded student population by development. The chart lists all developments, sorted by change in student population. This year, the most significant net growth of new students added to Klein I.S.D. occurred in activelyͲbuilding subdivisions (755 added students over the past year), while builtͲout subdivisions gained 60 students. The number of students living in apartments, condos, and mobile home parks also increased – with apartments and condos netting 118 and 19 respectively, and mobile home parks adding 136 students. These active subdivisions had a net gain of 755 additional students this school year, with a gain from Fall, 2012 to Fall, 2013 of 575 students. The older, builtͲout subdivisions both added and lost students. More subdivisions lost students than gained students, but there was net was a increase in student population. The largest losers were: Willowood II (Ͳ51), Colony Creek Village (Ͳ36), and Northcliffe Manor (Ͳ33). Champions Valley THs and Northern Point each gained 33 students, while Memorial Springs and Inwood North II gained 31 and 30, respectively. 3RSXODWLRQ DQG 6XUYH\ QDO\VWV 'HPRJUDSKLF 8SGDWH 2FWREHU
