1. Install batteriesYour universal remote requires two AAA alkalinebatteries (not included). To install the batteries:1.Remove the batterycompartment cover.2.Insert the batteries, matching the ( ) and (–)marks inside the batterycompartment.3.Push the battery cover backinto place.Battery Precautions: Do not mix old and new batteries. Do not mix alkaline, standard (carbon-zinc) orrechargeable (nickel-cadmium) batteries. Always remove old, weak or worn-outbatteries promptly and recycle or dispose ofthem in accordance with Local and NationalRegulations.Battery SaverYour universal remote control saves battery powerby automatically turning off if any key is pressedfor more than 60 seconds. This saves your batterylife should your remote get stuck in a place wherethe keys remain depressed, such as between sofacushions.Tip: This remote is already programmed tooperate many Samsung-branded TVs and DVDplayers, DIRECTV-branded satellite receivers, andSony-branded audio receivers. Just press thecorresponding key— DVD for a DVD player, TVfor a television, SAT CBL STREAM for a satellitereceiver, and AUDIO for an audio receiver.2

2. Program the remote The Brand Code Search searches throughthe codes for select brands of devices. If yourbrand is listed in the Brand Code section of thecode list, try this method first. The Direct Code Entry searches through thecodes for select brands of devices. Note: DirectCode Entry is usually the best method to usefor audio devices. The Auto Code Search goes automaticallythrough all the codes for the device you’retrying to control. The Manual Code Search lets you manuallygo through all the codes for the device you’retrying to control.Brand Code SearchThe Brand Code Search goes through only thecodes for one of the select brands listed in theaccompanying code list. If your brand of device islisted, this search can be very quick and easy.IMPORTANT: The Brand Code Search worksfor TVs, VCRs, DVD players, satellite receivers, cable boxes, and audio devices. The Brand CodeSearch does not work for programming thisremote to control DVRs, digital TV converterboxes, or streaming media players. Use a differentprogramming method for these kinds of devices.TIPS: Each device key is associated with a typeof device—the TV is preset to search for TVs,SAT CBL STREAM for satellite receivers, digitalTV converters, cable boxes, or streaming mediaplayers, DVD for DVD players, DVR AUX1 forDVRs, VCR AUX2 for VCRs, and AUDIO for audioreceivers. To program the DVR AUX1 or VCR AUX2 key fora different type of device, see the Reassigning theDVR AUX1 or VCR AUX2 Key section. To control combo devices, like TV/DVDs and TV/VCRs, you need to program each key separately. Each key will control that part of the combodevice. If the original remote control that came with yourdevice has separate ON and OFF keys (insteadof a single POWER key), the Brand Code Searchmight not work with that device. Try the DirectCode Entry method described later in this manual. To exit without saving a new code at any point inthe Brand Code Search, press the EXIT BACK key.3ENGLISHTo use this universal remote with your homeentertainment system, first you need to programit to control your devices.
