RESUME GUIDELINESWHAT IS A RESUME?A resume is a document you create to market yourexperience, skills and accomplishments to a potentialemployer. It should be targeted toward the opportunityyou hope to secure. Above all, it should communicate tothe employer why you are qualified for the position youare seeking.GET STARTED:Brainstorm experiencesthat are relevant to theposition you are applyingfor. Then create categoriesthat will best feature yourmost recent, relevant andsignificantaccomplishments.TIP: A college-level resume should belimited to one page.WHO ARE YOU?A complete HEADING includes your full name, email address, phonenumber, and home or college address. Make sure your email addressis professional; your Oxy email works best. You can choose to includea permanent and school mailing address if necessary.EDUCATION. Believe it or not, the fact that you are about to receiveyour Bachelor of Arts degree is your most significant accomplishmentto date. This section is always listed at the top of your resume. Youreducation informs an employer that you are still enrolled in college, ora recent college graduate.FAQ:DO I INCLUDE HIGH SCHOOL? Unless you are a first year student, you donot need to include high school. However, you may choose to listyour study abroad experience in the EDUCATION section.TIP:If applicable, feelfree to list honorsand awardswithinEDUCATIONWHAT ABOUT COURSEWORK? Under some circumstances, it can bebeneficial to list key coursework at the advanced level (300/400level) to demonstrate relevant knowledge where tangible experiencemay be lacking.
