2001 ELECTRIC RANGER2001 ELECTRIC RANGER VEHICLEWIRING DIAGRAMSFCS-12887-01FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE DIVISIONQuality is Job 1Ford Customer Service Division has developed a new format for the 2001 Electric Ranger Wiring Diagrams. Our goal is toprovide accurate and timely electrical information.ORDERING INFORMATIONDSchematic pages do not contain Component Location references to full-view illustrations and Component Descriptionsthat describe the system function of a component. (This information is available in CELL 152 Location Index or the Workshop Manual.)D“COMPONENT TESTING” procedures (CELL 149) that tell the user how to perform diagnostic tests on various circuits.Information about how to orderadditional copies of this publication orother Ford publications may be obtainedby writing to Helm, Incorporated at the address shown below or by calling1-800-782-4356. Other publicationsavailable include:DNOTES, CAUTIONS and WARNINGS contain important safety information.DWorkshop ManualsDFull view “COMPONENT LOCATION VIEWS” (CELL 151) to help locate on-vehicle components.DService Specification BooksDCircuit voltages have been added to schematic pages to help simplify troubleshooting.Nonessential troubleshooting hints have been deleted.DCar/Truck Wiring DiagramsDDCellular Pagination: A specific section (or cell) in all Wiring Diagrams is numbered by cell and starts with page 1. For example: “HOW TO USE THIS MANUAL” is CELL 2 and begins with page 2-1.Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis ManualsD“CONNECTOR FACES” (CELL 150) will contain all connectors, to aid in servicing electrical wiring.D“C” numbers have been assigned for all electrical connectors. “C” numbers are listed in the“LOCATION INDEX” (CELL 152).D“HARNESS CAUSAL PART NUMBERS” (CELL 153) has been added to aid in identifying warranty concerns.DIn-line connector numbers contain a suffix to denote connector “gender” type (F-socket, M-prior blade).DHIGH VOLTAGE WIRES are identified by “white” wires with a black outline. Black stripes may also appear on these wires, indicating a tracer. Wiring harnesses with high voltage wiring will be identified in the vehicle by orange convolute aroundthat harness auxiliary loads such as the A/C system, power steering pump, heater and certain control components. Thesecomponents should be treated with extreme caution. Do not perform any service on them until all high voltage power hasbeen disconnected.2001 Wiring Diagrams FeaturesNOTE: The descriptions and specifications contained in this manual were in effect at the time this manual wasapproved for printing. 1Ć3TABLE OF CONTENTS/INDEX2001 RANGER ELECTRIC VEHICLEIMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICEAppropriate service methods and properrepair procedures are essential for the safe, reliable operation of all motor vehicles, aswell as the personal safety of the individualdoing the work. This Manual provides genĆeral directions for accomplishing serviceand repair work with tested, effective techĆniques. Following them will help assure reĆliability. There are numerous variations in proceĆdures, techniques, tools, and parts for servĆicing vehicles, as well as in the skill of theindividual doing the work. This Manual canĆnot possibly anticipate all such variationsand provide advice or cautions as to each.Accordingly, anyone who departs from theinstructions provided in this Manual mustfirst establish that the choice of methods, tools, or parts does not compromise perĆsonal safety or the vehicle integrity.

2-1HOW TO USE THIS MANUAL2001 ELECTRIC RANGER VEHICLEThe purpose of this manual is to show electrical circuits in a clear and simple fashion to make troubleshooting easier. NOTES, CAUTIONS and WARNINGS contain important information.D NOTES describe how switches and other components operate to help complete a particular procedure.D CAUTIONS provide information that could prevent making an error that may damage thevehicle.D WARNINGS provide information to prevent personal injury. The WARNINGS list on page 2-2 contains generalwarnings to follow when servicing a vehicle.Components that work together are showntogether. All electrical components used in a specificsystem are shown on one diagram. The circuitbreaker or fuse is shown at the top of the page. Allwires, connectors, components and splices areshown in the flow of current to ground at the bottomof the page. If a component is used in several different systems, it is shown in several places. For example, the Headlamp Switch is electrically a part ofmany systems and is repeated on many pages. In some cases, a component may seem (by itsname) to belong to a system where it has no electrical connection. For example, Radio Illumination iselectrically part of Instrument Illumination, butbecause it has no electrical connection to the Radiosystem, it is not shown on the Radio diagram.Schematic pages contain references to full-viewillustrations and description notes for various components. The references are reverse-text blockslocated next to each component and connector andrefer the user to the appropriate illustration page andzone. The description notes describe the operationof the component.Schematic pages contain circuit voltages to helpsimplify troubleshooting hints. 12V is used to implybattery voltage on a component connector terminal, and 0V is used to show that there should be continuity to ground on that particular terminal. Conditionalvoltages such as “12V with the ignition switch inRUN” will also be provided. Troubleshooting hintsthat can’t be simplified with circuit voltages will beshown at the end of each cell. The “LOCATION INDEX” (Cell 152) provides thebase part numbers, locations, connector face references and illustration references for all components, connectors, splices and grounds.Component connector face information specific toa certain cell is found at the end of that cell. A Connector Face Reference List is provided to locate connector faces that are shown in different cells. Component connectors with five or more terminals areillustrated and are accompanied by a pinout chartthat lists the function of all circuitry associated withthat component.1. The abbreviation T/O, for take out, used in theLocation Index (Cell 152), refers to the point atwhich a group of wires branch off the harnesstrunk. Refer to the wiring harness illustration.“GROUNDS” (Cell 10) contains ground circuitryshown in complete detail. This information is usefulfor checking interconnections of the ground circuitsof different systems.“POWER DISTRIBUTION” (Cell 13) containspower distribution circuitry shown in complete detail. This section displays how the various fuses are powered and, in turn, how each system is powered.“COMPONENT TESTING” (Cell 149) containstesting procedures for various switches. Thisinformation includes schematics, component terminal locations and step-by-step procedures.“IN-LINE CONNECTOR FACES” (Cell 150) contains illustrations of all the in-line connectors thathave 6 or more terminals. The terminals have pinnumbers assigned to them.“COMPONENT LOCATION VIEWS” (Cell 151)contains full-view illustrations which show the location of components and connectors in the vehicle.HELPFUL REMINDERSBefore using the Wiring Diagrams for troubleshooting, refer to these HELPFUL REMINDERS:Wiring harness at back of Instrument Panel, showing typical T/O (Take Out) locationsT/O(Take Out)T/O(Take Out)Harness Trunk2. If a connector serves the same purpose in twoseparate versions (e.g., Automatic/Manual), butis physically different, two connector numbersare used. However, if a connector serves thesame purpose in two separate versions (e.g.,Automatic/Manual) and is physically the same, but the wire colors are different, only one connector number is used. If the same physical connector is used more than once, then more than oneconnector number is used.
