All-State Audition Etudes 2020All Students except percussionists will be required to start their audition by playing a Chromatic Scalewhich should be performed to the most accurate and practical speed/range of your ability, tongued up andslurred down.Students will then be expected to play all etudes for the instrument as described below. Students areencouraged to play the etudes as accurately as possible regardless of tempo. Indicated tempo markings are tobe used as a guide. Percussion needs to play all four etudes. The Mallet etude may be played on xylophone ormarimba. The Auxiliary etude will be played on cymbals. Each etude described below is accompanied by thefirst and last measure they are to perform in order to assist you. The audition books are attached at the end ofthis document.Students may audition on as many instruments as they like as long as they participate in their honorgroup. For example: if a student performed in their honor group on flute, they may audition for trombone aswell. Each audition, however, must be accompanied by a separate application fee to reserve their slot. Piccolois a separate audition from flute and needs to have a separate audition time slot. In theory, a student couldaudition once on every instrument in the band if they so wished as long as they paid for the slots.Flute/Piccolo BOTHLyrical – Cavally, Bk 2 Page 29, Start @ key change labeled “ancora piu mosso” - EndDotted-Quarter Note 60Technical – Cavally, Book 3 Page 3, Measure 3 (after breath mark) – End of mm. 12 (Fermata)Dotted-Quarter Note 64Oboe/English HornLyricalFerling Pg. 21 #41 Beginning – Measure 16TechnicalFerling, Page 8, #16, Beginning – Measure 168th note 88Quarter Note 96
