Akshaya VataHinduism is a way of human life, a path of eternal spiritual discipline,the sanatana dharma. These rules or norms that go by the omnibusterm “dharma”. For our purposes we will interpret this term as dutyor responsibility or obligation.Parents and elders brought us up with love and care. When they leavethe world, we their children want to show our gratitude, love andrespect and pay homage to them. There are rites and rituals associatedwith the same. It is important to do things properly. It is essential tofollow our tradition.As one of the premier Hindu institutions in North Americaparticularly pioneer in the National Capital Region, Sri Siva VishnuTemple (SSVT) identified this activity as one of the key initiatives andis indeed a priority endeavor that will serve the Hindu communityacross the nation and DC Metro region to honor our ancestors wholive in our DNA.Project “Akshaya Vata” (The indestructible banyan tree) providesa holistic platform for our community in providing the facility,resources including not limited to priestly services, guidance andmaterials needed to perform. We give great importance to ourdharmic tradition, unique way of remembrance, thanks giving andcelebration of life. It is the least that we can do our forefathers andpay our obeisance to them.Our endeavor is to provide two distinct facilities Paschima Gaya(Paścimā gayA – mÉͶÉqÉ aÉrÉÉ) & Paschima Kashi (Paścimā Kāśi – mÉͶÉqÉMüÉÍzÉ) for Pitru Karma & Apara Karma respectively.This is an important and essential project for the temple and thecommunity. SRI MEDHA VIDYAA VAARIDHI MAHOTSAVAM“Celebrating the Vast Ocean of Learning”October 6-15, 2017Sri Siva Vishnu Temple is celebrating all aspects of learning with theSri Medha Vidyaa Vaaridhi MahotsavamIn the Hindu pantheon of Gods, education is the focus of Lord Ganesha, Goddess Saraswati(Medha), Lord Hayagreeva and Lord Dakshinamurthy. Prayers and worship of these Godswill enhance all forms of knowledge: worldly knowledge (Loukika) and spiritual knowledge(Paaramaarthika).Lord Ganesha is the remover of obstacles and was the first scribe in history, writing theMahabharatha as dictated by Sage Veda Vyasa. Goddess Saraswati is the devata mostassociated with knowledge and with her blessings, the Sanskrit poet and playwright Kalidasa,became a genius. Lord Hayagreeva, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, restored the Vedas when itwas being corrupted by adharmic forces. He is worshipped as the first teacher of Vedas. LordDakshinamurthy, an aspect of Lord Shiva, is a guru of all types of knowledge. This aspect of LordShiva is his personification as the ultimate awareness, understanding and knowledge.The Sri Medha Vidyaa Vaaridhi Mahotsavam will have different poojas and homas for the fourGods of Education.
