ABOUT THEORGANIZATIONThe SEIU Healthcare 1199NW Multi-EmployerTraining Fund (Training Fund) is a nonprofit, labor/management partnership between eight (8) majorhealthcare employers and the largest healthcareunion in Washington State. The Training Fundwas formed in 2008 and is a statewide programthat is committed to and addresses the workforceneeds of participating employers and supportsthe career, knowledge, and skill aspirations ofSEIU Healthcare 1199NW members. The TrainingFund is the sponsor of the state-registered HealthCare Apprenticeship Consortium (HCAC) and theVirtual Healthcare Institute (VHI).With over 16,500 members, roughly half of theTraining Fund’s current participants are peopleof color. The Training Fund’s membershiprepresents the diversity of the communitiesserved and is poised to make a significantimpact on the health and well-being of thesecommunities. The organization is governed by a16-member board with eight (8) representing theunion and eight (8) representing the employers.There are approximately thirty (30) full-time staff,and the Training Fund has an annual budget ofapproximately 7.0m.VISIONThe Training Fund supports the careeradvancement and lifelong learning of healthcareworkers while enhancing partnering employers’ability to attract and retain a diverse and talentedworkforce.MISSIONThe Training Fund supports innovative training,education, and career development for healthcareworkers that maximizes their talents, proactivelymeets industry needs and ensures high-qualitypatient care through a diverse and skilledhealthcare workforce.For more detailed information about the TrainingFund’s programs and services, please click here.You can also view a short introductory video aboutthe Training Fund here.THE POSITIONThe Director of Communications and CommunityRelations (Director) is responsible for planning,leading, and directing all communications,marketing, outreach, and community relationsto support the strategic services and plan of theSEIU Healthcare 1199NW Multi-Employer Trainingand Education Fund (Training Fund). This positionreports to and is a trusted partner to the ED.They lead the communications and communityrelations efforts and manage the day-to-day tasks.The Director of Communications is part of theTraining Fund leadership team and works closelywith the Deputy Director.The Director plays a crucial role in facilitating astrong labor/management partnership. They plan,implement, and oversee the overall marketing,communications, and outreach strategy forthe Training Fund’s services and unify andalign communications across all channels. TheDirector builds an outreach and communicationstrategy to connect with diverse membershipand stakeholders. In addition, they will identifyand implement changes that enhance programeffectiveness and resolve complex issues orproblems in the labor/management context.The Director supervises the Communications andOutreach Coordinator and several contractorsthat provide specific services such as websitemaintenance and graphic design and an internand/or additional staff as assigned.Along with others in the Training Fund, theDirector is responsible for the safe, professional,and equal opportunity operation of all TrainingFund activities. OPPORTUNITIES FOR IMPACTThough somewhat small in size, the Training Fund is a deceptively complex organization that provides abroad array of services and programs to a large member population that spans all of Washington state. The new Director must quickly become conversant about all aspects of the Training Fund’s offeringsto most effectively tell the organization’s story and connect with diverse communities, partners,members, and other stakeholders. Work with program leadership to develop a comprehensive communications strategy that clearlypresents potential benefits to members, raises awareness and visibility of the organization, acceleratesgrowth and expansion of the number of people served, and promotes underutilized programs andservices. Implement a strategic communication plan, related policies, and practices to facilitate effectiveinternal and external communications utilizing various delivery methods to reach targeted audiences. As the Director leads the Training Fund’s community engagement efforts, they must form andfoster relationships with a broad array of business leaders, members, partners, funders, and otherstakeholders to promote the work of the organization and to provide these constituencies with acommunications conduit to the Training Fund. Perform an audit on existing program support materials, then create and propose a plan to updateor augment these materials to ensure consistency, accuracy, efficiency, and cost-effective and timelyproduction. Ensure that the Training Fund is making the best use of and leveraging technology to its fullest toachieve the organization’s goals including social media, the website, direct email marketing, and webbased advertising. Develop and implement an effective marketing and branding program designed to promote andfoster a sense of community pride and further engage members.

LEADERSHIP ABILITIESCandidates will be evaluated on the full range oftheir lived and learned experience, professionalbackground, volunteer experience, and direct andtransferable skills. The Training Fund is seekingcandidates with a compelling combination ofdemonstrated experience and skills in some, orall, of the following areas: Experience as a Communications Directoror senior staff member leading and growingan organization, division, or departmentof significant size and scope. Stay up to date on key trends/issues asrelevant to the Training Fund’s current andfuture work.Ability to: Effectively communicate with and conductoutreach to people from diverse ounds. Speak and present in public, read forcomprehension, write, edit, analyze data,organize and conduct research. Navigate well in labor/management settingsand build and sustain partnerships withexternal stakeholders. Maintain an entrepreneurial vision thatquickly recognizes an opportunity to capturea new audience coupled with a sense ofurgency and timing in reaching that audience. TOTALCOMPENSATIONThe annual salary range for this position is 80,000 - 100,000.
