KEY FEATURESHIGH-GRADE ELECTRIC POWER STEERINGKawasaki’s high-grade electric power steering (EPS) system works best when you need it most: at extremely slow speeds and when stopped.* The EPS system also enhances ride comfort and control by actingas a damping system. The inertia of the electric motor significantlyreduces bump steer and kickback to the steering wheel caused byshocks to the wheels.* Because the EPS system does not rely on power steering fluidpumped by the engine, there is no engine power loss. Fuelefficiency is also uncompromised.* Turning the wheel causes a signal to be sent to the EPS ECU,initiating assistance. The ECU uses input from a vehicle speedsensor and torque sensor to determine the amount of steeringassistance required from the system’s electric motor.* At slow speeds or when stopped, assistance is greatest; assistanceis reduced as vehicle speed increases to ensure stable handling.2 0 1 2 M Y M U L E 4 0 0 0 S E R I E S M O D E L I N F O R M AT I O N 6

KEY FEATURESFUEL-INJECTED GASOLINE POWER (all KAF620 models)Proven 617cc, 4-stroke, 90º V-twin, OHV, liquid-cooled gasoline engine features dual injector fuel injection. The switch to fuel injectionmeans stable power all the time, smooth response, improved power feeling, easy starting and no need to adjust engine settings to suitclimate and varying altitude conditions.throttle valve is operated by the driver via the accelerator pedal; themain valve is operated by a step-motor actuator which is controlledby the ECU. The ECU uses throttle position input from the sub-valveto determine the ideal throttle position for the main valve, ensuringsmooth inlet airflow.* To keep the fuel injection system simple and reliable, rather than usean atmospheric pressure sensor, the ECU calculates atmosphericpressure using the pulse air pressure measured by the inlet pressuresensor.* The ECU compensates for air and engine temperature andatmospheric pressure, ensuring sure and prompt engine starts in avariety of conditions (including cold, high altitude, etc). Auto fast idlewhen the engine is cold means being able to move out right after acold-engine start.* The ECU also enforces the vehicle’s maximum speed. In Hi-gear,the throttle is slowly closed as max vehicle speed is approached. In Low-gear, the throttle is closed partially before fuel is cut at theengine speed where the max vehicle speed would be exceeded.* Kawasaki Diagnostic System (KDS) can be used to diagnose the fuelinjection system.* Fuel pump located in the fuel tank features a built-in fuel pressureregulator. (This system is similar to that used on motorcycles and onKawasaki’s fuel-injected ATVs.)* To ensure smooth engine response, the engine features dual throttlevalves. The throttle body contains a ø34 mm upstream (sub-) throttlevalve and a ø30 mm downstream (main) throttle valve. The sub2 0 1 2 M Y M U L E 4 0 0 0 S E R I E S M O D E L I N F O R M AT I O N* Compact and lightweight, durable and powerful, the engine ismounted in a rubber-isolated sub-frame to ensure low vibrationlevels.* Overhead valves designed for efficient running and good fueleconomy are durable and operate quietly.* Crankcase breathers fitted to route blow-by back to the intake pipefor cleaner exhaust emissions. 7

KEY FEATURESFUEL-INJECTED DIESEL POWER (KAF950G & KAF950FBF)The Mule 4010 Diesel models are powered by a 953cc, 4-stroke, OHV, 3-cylinder, fuel injected, diesel engine which develops a high level oflow-rpm torque, making it ideal for hauling and towing heavy loads and performing other low-speed, high-load work.* Enabling fuel compatibility amongst workplace machines, Kawasaki’sdiesel MULEs are well suited for use in working environments wherediesel is the primary fuel, such as in agriculture, inside factories, onmilitary bases and construction sites.* The hardy Mule 4010 Diesel 4x4 and Diesel Trans4x4 also representa practical choice for more traditional utility vehicle users who simplywish to opt for the lower operating costs, durability and reliability thata diesel-powered vehicle offers. Whether for industrial or generalusage, the diesel MULE meets the needs of a broad range of utilityvehicle customers.* Liquid-cooled engine ensures optimum operating temperatures, either while working hard or idling for extended periods. Idealfor stop-go applications, with low fuel costs and efficient coolingnegating the need to constantly turn off and restart the engine.* Exhaust pipe routing allows the accessory lift kit to be installedwithout changing the standard exhaust pipe.* Spark arrester equipped muffler enhances operating safety whilelowering noise levels.2 0 1 2 M Y M U L E 4 0 0 0 S E R I E S M O D E L I N F O R M AT I O N 8
