It went without a hitch and it was good to have brief chats with familiarfaces! I am sure that the paintings are happy to be home.The dates for the show are as follows: Deadline for registration is January 5. No late entries will be taken. Drop-off of paintings is on January 9, at Lake Miona Rec Center from 7:30-8:30 AM. This is different due to Recreation Department changes.Masks are required to enter the room!All the information can be found on the CPPG website including theregistration forms and the guidelines for paintings and framing.The main two “rules” are that it must be 100% colored pencil-includingwatercolor pencil-and 100% original artwork. This means it is not to befrom a book or a class or seminar that you have participated in.Your paintings that were entered in our virtual show in November are mostwelcome as an entry. CPPG PENCIL POINTS VOLUME 10 ISSUE 1 JANUARY 2021 THE VILLAGES, FLORIDAEverglades WorkshopWe’veMoved!The Fenney workshop moved to the EvergladesRecreation Center (and will now be called the EvergladesWorkshop). The workshop is monthly (not weekly) andmoved to the Glacier and Acadia craft rooms at the Everglades Recreation Center. Theworkshop will be held on every 3rd Thursday of the month from 1:00 p.m. to 2:50 p.m. Theserooms offer us twice the room that the Fenny Craft Room offers us, more attendees, and allowsfor better social distancing.Village Recreation Department Rules Room occupancy at each workshop will be one person at each table. People in the samehousehold may share a table. Pre-registration is not necessary. Upon entering the room, there will be a roster you must sign with your name, phonenumber, and email address. This will be used for contact tracing. Hours are every 3rd Thursday of the month from 1:00 – 2:50 pm. Masks must be worn to protect each other. If Mary Tougas is unable to make the workshop, it will be cancelled and the room will beunavailable. She will pre-notify the usual attendees by mail. So be sure to check your emailbefore leaving for the workshop.Seasonal Cards UpdateI am pleased to announce that we were able to donate 185 holiday cards to the UFHealth, The Villages Hospital to be given to the patients during the holiday season.The hospital staff was very appreciative since we are the only club in the Villagesthat does this. I am excited to announce that our members really steppedup to plate with donations to the Christian Food Pantry. Our donation this yeartotaled 925 on our behalf. This food pantry serves Lady Lake and the Villages.A big thank you to Jim Courtney for being our liaison and coordinating ourdonations.Upcoming ProgramsJANUARY – I am very excited about our January program. The program on Zoomwill be on Composition in Art by John Robak. John is a retired high school artinstructor. He also taught drawing and painting in adult education programs, and hewas last employed as a college adjunct, teaching drawing classes. John is a memberof the Colored Pencil Society of America and the Flagler County Art League. Hehas taught and developed drawing classes for 30 years. His web site is:johnrobak.com.The right composition will turn a great picture and colored pencil techniques into aninteresting piece of art. Composition is a way of thinking about the arrangement ofshapes and forms. John talks about the rule of 3rds, color harmony, weight, leadlines and stoppers. John uses thumbnail drawings while adding, subtracting, andrearranging his original design to get the best composition. You won’t want tomiss this meeting!FEBRUARY – Doree will be covering planning your value scale prior to beginningyour painting. Every color has a value. Some colors are naturally lighter thanothers but every color can be adjusted to be lighter or darker. Your art work needsvalue balance.
