PURPOSES OF THE AMERICAN ALLIANCEFOR HEALTH, PHYSICAL EDUCATION,RECREATION AND DANCEThe American Alliance is an educational organization, structuredfor the purposes of supporting, encouraging, and providingassistance to member groups and their personnel throughout thenation as they seek to initiate, develop, and conduct programsin health, leisure, and movement-related activities for theenrichment of human life.Alliance objectives include:Professional growth and development--to support, encourage,1.and provide guidance in the development and conduct of programsin health, leisure, and movement-related activities which arebased on the needs, interests, and inherent capacities of theindividual in today's society.Communication--to facilitate public and professional understanding and appreciation of the importance and value of health,leisure, and movement-related activities as they contributetoward human well-being.2.Research--to encourage and facilitate research which willenrich the depth and scope of health, leisure, and movementrelated activities; and to disseminate the findings to the profession and other interested and concerned publics.3.Standards and guidelines--to further the continuous development and evaluation of standards within the profession for personnel and programs in health, leisure, and movement-relatedactivities.4.Public affairs--to coordinate and administer a plannedp-ogram of professional, public, and governmental relations thatwill improve education in areas of health, leisure, and movventrelated activities.5.To conduct such other activities as shall be approved by theBoard of Govenors and the Alliance Assembly, provided that theAlliance shall not engage in any activity which would be inconsistent with the status of an educational and charitable organization as defined in Section 501(c) (3) of the Internal RevenueC.:de of 1954 or any successor provision thereto, and none of theconstrued to besaid purposes shall at any time be deemedpurposes other than the public benefit purposes and objectivesconsistent with such educational and charitable status.6.Bylaws, Article III

PREFACEThe Dance Directory is an American Alliance for Health, PhysicalEducation, Recreation and Dance publication sponsored by the NationalDance Association. Dance Major and Minor program listings from 214Performingcolleges and universities make up the bulk of the Directory.Arts High Schools have been included.The Twelfth Edition of the Dance Directory contains updatedinformation concerning programs previously listed, plus new entries.Information for the publication was obtained from persons in chargeof respective dance programs.
