Registerin Naviance toattend. Studentsneed to get approvalfrom their teacherif the visit isduring class. What is Naviance?Naviance is a web-based program that is free to our students. Students can use Naviance to startexploring colleges. They can research colleges by size, location, major of study, and cost. Not surewhat career you are interested in? Take the different assessments offered as a starting point to careeroptions based on strengths and interests. Use the planner to set goals and build your resume. UseNaviance to sign up for college visits and other college/career events on campus.Log onto Naviance from the student apps page with Clever! No passwords needed. See Mrs. Duran ifyou need assistance. What is a “for profit” college?Just like it sounds, the college operates to make money from their students. We have many for profitcolleges in the Modesto area: Kaplan, Carrington, Heald College, ITT Tech, San Joaquin Valley College,Wyotech, University of Pheonix, and UTI, to name just a few. If you are eligible for Cal Grant, your grantmoney cannot be used at these schools because the state has deemed their graduation rate is too lowand/or their student loan default rate is too high. Although these schools may offer degrees and certificatesmore quickly, be aware that you will typically pay a lot more money to attend them, and it may not be muchfaster than attending a public or non-profit private school. If money is a concern for you, be sure tocompare the price and loans to other public and non-profit private schools before you sign up.A great article to read about this topic: nthian-forprofitcolleges/2

I will visit senior government classes in November to help students create an account and complete thestudent section of the application. Students will need to bring their SSN. The FAFSA or CADA application is recommended for all students who plan on attending any type ofcollege in the 2019/20 school year – 2 year, 4 year, vocational. FAFSA application requires each student to electronically sign with an FSA ID and if parents have aSSN, they will need to electronically sign with FSA ID. Parents who do not have a SSN can print theirsignature page and mail it in. Male students must register with the US Selective Service in order to receive any financial aid. There isan option to do this on the financial aid application. Your parent/guardian needs to help you with the application. They will need to provide information fromtheir 2017 IRS tax return, marriage/divorce dates, and California residency dates. You may log on to change information as needed, even after you have submitted. The application asks you to list 10 colleges that you would like your application shared with. Collegesare not able to see the other colleges you have listed, and they cannot see which number they were listedas. If you are applying to more than 10 colleges, submit the form with the first ten listed. After a few days, then log back on to your application to make changes. Remove the first 10 colleges and add the rest, submit your application again. You must re-apply for financial aid EVERY YEAR that you are in college. At the end of the application, there is a form for the GPA verification. You DO NOT need to print thisform or bring it to school. Our district automatically submits all GPAs electronically. Please review yourpersonal information (name, birthday, address) at the top of your high school transcript for accuracy. Itmust match what you list on your college and financial aid applications. All names must match or you willhave setbacks and may not get the aid you are entitled to receive.3
