IDEAL prepares mid-careerprofessionals for positions where they will lead people, teams and other workgroups.The IDEAL program consists of four, one-week resident sessions held over a period of six months. Inbetween sessions, participants return to their workplaces where they utilize new skills and put intopractice the concepts and competencies they studied and examined during the resident sessions.The IDEAL curriculum includes classroom instruction, engagement with senior leaders, site visits andspecial projects.KEY DATESAnnouncement Opening: 29 January 2018Announcement Closing: 26 April 2018Board Results Released: mid-May 2018First class starts: 18 June 2018DETAILSTarget AudienceIDEAL is targeted to future acquisition leaders seeking to prepare themselves prior to assuming formalsupervisory and leadership roles. IDEAL participants with limited or no supervisory experience will havethe most to gain from attending. Individuals with prior supervisory or military experience may find thatIDEAL is not the right program to further develop their leadership competencies and are encouraged toconsider other Army DACM Office leader development programs. For the 2018 offering of IDEAL, the four resident sessions will take place in Huntsville, AL at the ArmyAcquisition Center of Excellence (AACoE).Session DatesThe dates for the four resident sessions are as follows:Session 1:Session 2:Session 3:Session 4:18 - 22 June 201823 - 27 July 201827 - 31 August 20185 - 9 November 2018Participants must attend all four sessions. For your planning purposes, all Mondays in the above weeksare travel days. IDEAL participants will attend class all day Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with halfdays on Friday. Friday afternoons are for travel home.Continuous Learning Points (CLPs)Participants completing the four weeks of IDEAL and all IDEAL activities and assignments will receive 112CLPs.Funding and TravelParticipants will travel to Huntsville, AL for the four resident sessions. There is no funding obligation forArmy organizations sending Acquisition Workforce participants. Tuition, fees and TDY will be paid bythe Army DACM Office.Curriculum and CompetenciesIDEAL utilizes a competency-based approach focused on Army leadership competencies that arestandard across all Acquisition Career Fields. The competencies covered in IDEAL are Prepares SelfBuilds TrustStewards the ProfessionCommunicatesDevelops OthersLeads by ExampleGets ResultsCreates a Positive EnvironmentLeads OthersExtends InfluenceDuring each of the four resident weeks, participants will explore the competencies through classroominstruction provided by AACoE. Instruction will include several four-hour leadership developmentmodules as well as two, two-day courses: Crucial Conversations and Influencer. Participants willenhance and supplement their learning with acquisition-relevant site visits, special projects andengagements with senior leaders who visit the class in guest speaker roles. IDEAL participants havefurther opportunity to practice leadership skills in their workplaces between the program sessions.Session ThemesEach resident session is built around a theme that describes the leadership competencies being coveredduring that week. Acquisition Career Record Brief (ACRB). Ensure your ACRB is updated and correct prior tosubmission of application. Applicants may update and correct specific fields of their ACRB usingthe edit functions within CAPPMIS. For areas in the ACRB that cannot be changed by theapplicant, please request assistance from the USAASC Help Desk by clicking “Help Request”within CAPPMIS and submitting an online request; you may also call the Help Desk at (575) 6782247.3

Applicants should also highlight their qualities and strengths instead oflisting responsibilities. Ensure experience descriptions and dates match those in the ACRB. Fora resume template as well as additional hints and best practices, ograms/best-practices/ Senior Rater Potential Evaluation (SRPE). Ensure that your most recent SRPE is in the system.Your most recent SRPE must have an end date within one year of this announcement closingdate and must be completed by your Senior Rater by the closing date or your application will notbe reviewed by the Board. Failure to have a completed/finalized SRPE in the CAPPMIS system atthe time of announcement closing will result in the applicant being declared ineligible and theapplication will not be provided to the Board for consideration. Type your statement of interest in this section. In 4,000 characters orless, please describe your reasons for applying to IDEAL and the benefits the Army will gain byyour participation. Clearly articulate your goals, desired career path and how IDEAL will helpyou achieve your specific goals. Supervisor’s Confirmation of Availability. Applicants must upload a memorandum from theirsupervisor in which the supervisor states that, if selected for IDEAL, the organization will makethe employee available for all four resident sessions. The memorandum should be addressed toDirector Acquisition Career Management (DACM), 9900 Belvoir Road, Fort Belvoir, VA 22060.Please review the Session Dates section of this announcement for the dates. Memorandumshould be in PDF format and not exceed one page. Continued Service Agreement (CSA): A CSA must be completed and uploaded. Please do notattempt to upload a document that is password-protected or that contains macros as this willcause the process to fail. The CSA can be accessed at the following s form.pdf. Enter 10 November 2018 to 27January 2020 as the period of obligated service. Be sure to sign and date the CSA. The CSA mustbe in PDF format, maximum 1 page.SELECTION PROCESSThe Army DACM Office will administer a Board to review and rate eligible applications.
