LED emergency lighting systemLight that makes people feel safe. At all times.A system is only as good as the weakest link of its chain. This iswhy we consider emergency lighting as a functional unity – frompower supply to battery, from optimal use of the light source toeasy integration into the lighting management and buildingmanagement systems. The complete solution – for your emergency lightingTridonic solutions for emergency lighting systems providefor safety in your building, even in case of a power failure.

LED emergency lighting systemA functional unityFocused Tridonic competenceAll over the world, Tridonic is a synonym for excellentproducts and services associated with perfect light. The company is impressive with a clearly arrangedportfolio that will meet any requirement. With LED Modules/LED Drivers and lighting management as core competencies – and with a view to theintegration of emergency lighting, we are the rightpartner for electronic component solutions and systems.4

Everything from a single supplierAt Tridonic, the competencies of various disciplines merge. We canprovide you with the entire portfolio for solutions in the fields ofgeneral and emergency lighting: LED Driver, LED modules, LED LightEngine, batteries and controls. This is what makes us a market leaderin emergency lighting systems in Europe. In operation, too, emergencylighting is given particular attention: our automatic monitoring andtest equipment guarantees that standards and specifications arereliably met.Power supply for emergency purposesVarious systems are eligible to supply emergency lighting installationswith electricity in case of a power failure: separate battery, group battery, central battery, power generators or high-security mains.EM ready2applyTridoniccompetence"Emergency lighting"ControlsLED Light EngineLEDWhether you opt for emergency lighting with decentralised separatebattery solutions or for a group or central battery installation – withTridonic components you will always be on the safe side. The comprehensive range comprises both LED Driver for group and centralbattery supply and single battery-supplied emergency lighting units.

LED emergency lighting systemWith good reasonEmergency lighting protects people against panic and accidents. When the general artificial lighting fails, orientation must still be ensured in buildingseven for visitors. Accordingly, there are legal provisions governing the equipment anddimensioning of emergency lighting installations that will be activated when there is nomains voltage. According to international standards and in line with the relevant EuropeanDirectives, emergency lighting is divided into safety lighting and secondary lighting.6

Emergency lighting (EN 1838 / EN 50172) Safety lightingSecondary lighting Anti-panic lightingEscape route lightingEmergency lightingfor high-risk workplaces Escape routeluminairesEscape routesignsSafety lightingSafety lighting must provide for a minimum brightness level to avoidpanic in buildings and to allow for hazardous procedures to be completed and equipment to be turned off safely. Escape routes and safetydevices must be clearly recognisable, thus enabling people to leavethe premises quickly. Safety lighting breaks down into anti-panic lighting, escape route lighting and safety lighting for high-risk workplaces.Secondary lightingSecondary lighting provides light in places where power failures willnot cause any hazard, but where nevertheless work needs to becontinued. For a limited period of time, it will assume the functionof general lighting.Anti-panic lightingAnti-panic lighting is meant to avoid panic in case of a power failureand to enable the people in the building to clearly recognise escaperoutes. The required illuminance level in the defined area is at least 0.5 lux.Escape route lightingEscape route lighting allows for safety devices to be recognisedclearly and used safely. Escape routes must be illuminated across awidth of 2 m. In doing so, an illuminance level of at least 1 lux alongthe center line for a path width of one metre must be guaranteed.According to the EN 1838 standard, the ratio of highest to lowestilluminance must not exceed 40:1 for anti-panic and escape routelighting. The required illuminance level must be reached after nolonger than 60 seconds. 50 per cent of the illuminance level, however, must be reached already after 5 seconds. The rated service time isat least one hour.Emergency lighting for high-risk workplacesEmergency lighting for high-risk workplaces must reach 10 per cent ofthe illuminance level required for the respective tasks or at least 15 luxafter a maximum switch-on delay of 0.5 seconds. The ratio betweenhighest and lowest illuminance must not exceed 10:1.7

Light enables people to leave buildings safely, helps them tofind their way round and reduces accident hazards. Accordingly, various national and international standards, regulations anddirectives govern the operator's responsibility for reliableoperation of the respective installations. What is required hereis regular testing and function monitoring.Three ranges: BASIC, SELFTEST and PROFor the function test of the emergency lighting installation, Tridonicdisposes of a ballast solution that is adequate both in economic andfunctional terms for each individual application – from manual testingof individual installations in the BASIC range, via integrated automatictest functions (SELFTEST range) through to central monitoring of theentire emergency lighting system in the PRO range.Tridonic emergency lighting LED Driver with automatic test functionsmeet various testing and inspection algorithms according to the IEC62034 standard. In the process, a random generator controls the startof the test cycles, thus preventing all batteries from being dischargedat the same time and avoiding potential safety gaps. To ensure theright moment for running the annual system test, the switching statusof the luminaires is permanently monitored. Based on this information, the annual system test can automatically be run at times when therooms are not in use.Emergency lighting managementOwing to the DALI communication standard, Tridonic emergencylighting components of the PRO range can easily be integrated intoa monitored lighting and emergency lighting system. Additionally,Tridonic complements the general benefits of a DALI system throughspecial highlights, such as the patented easy addressing system andscalable control systems – from the compact control unit through tothe PC software.9
