Young Archie 2015 competitionBudding artists between the ages of 5 and 18 are invited to submit a portrait for the Art Gallery ofNSW’s Young Archie competition, as part of our family-focused activities for the Archibald, Wynneand Sulman Prizes 2015 exhibition.The portrait should be of a person who is special to you - someone who is known to you and plays asignificant role in your life.There are four age categories:* 5-8 year olds* 9-12 year olds* 13-15 year olds* 16-18 year oldsThe competition will be judged by artist Del Kathryn Barton, Archibald Prize winner in 2008 and2013, and Victoria Collings, the Gallery's senior coordinator of education and family programs, basedon merit and originality.Five finalists from each category will be exhibited at the Gallery and on the Gallery website. Onewinner will be chosen in each category.Each finalist will receive an art pack from Faber-Castell, ANZ money box and Archibald 15 catalogue.Each winner will receive a gift card from ANZ to the value of 100, an art hamper from Faber-Castelland a family pass to the upcoming exhibition The Greats: masterpieces of Western art from theNational Galleries of Scotland at the Gallery as well as an ANZ money box and Archibald 15catalogue.Artworks that received an honourable mention are displayed on the Gallery website and at the SHErvin Gallery in the Rocks alongside the Salon des Refusés.Your artwork* One artwork only per entrant.* You may use any art materials you like but your artwork must be two-dimensional and on goodquality paper so it can be framed for display if you are a finalist.* Can be vertical or horizontal.Young Archie 2015 competition1

* Must be no smaller than A4 (210 x 297 mm), no bigger than A3 (420 x 297 mm) and no thicker than1cm.* Should be clearly labelled on the back with which way it should be displayed, along with yourname, age, address and contact details. Make sure this doesn't show through to the front.How to enter* Download, print and complete the entry form, which includes a brief statement (less than 100words) telling us who you have chosen to depict and why. This form must be signed by a parent orlegal guardian.* Your artwork should be sent flat, not folded or rolled. We suggest you place it between two piecesof cardboard to protect it.* If you wish your artwork returned after the competition, please also enclose a stamped, selfaddressed envelope of the correct size. 5. Entries are limited to one artwork per entrant. Entrants found in breach of this limit will forfeittheir right to compete.6. The artwork submitted must be the original work of the entrant themselves.7. Judging will take place between 10 June 2015 and 8 July 2015 at the Art Gallery of NSW.8. The competition is a game of skill and chance plays no part in the selection of the winners. Thetheme is a portrait of a person who is special to the entrant, who is known to the entrant and whoplays a significant role in their life. Submissions will be judged by Del Kathryn Barton, artist andArchibald Prize winner 2008 and 2013, and Victoria Collings, Art Gallery of NSW senior coordinatorof education and family programs, according to the following criteria:8.1 The relevance of the submitted artwork to the theme in question, as decided by our judges.8.2 Artistic interpretation of the theme, as decided by our judges.8.3 Originality of the submission. Entries that are deemed to not belong to or be created by the userwill not be eligible.9. Judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.10. Use of artworks and images:10.1 By entering the competition and accepting the terms and conditions you agree your images canbe broadcast via digital feeds or used for physical events by the Art Gallery of NSW, including anexhibition of finalist works at the Gallery.10.2 Finalists (including winners) give the Art Gallery of NSW non-exclusive rights to use theirsubmitted artwork and name in promotional formats such as announcing the finalists and winnersvia a media release and the Art Gallery of NSW website, Facebook page and Twitter account and insubsequent competition promotions (with attribution where reasonable). The finalists (includingwinners) will not be entitled to any fee for such use.11. Use of personal information:11.1 By entering the competition and accepting the terms and conditions, you agree that the ArtGallery of NSW may use your personal details for the purpose of conducting the competition.11.2 By entering the competition, you give the Art Gallery of NSW permission to contact you if youare a finalist in the competition.12. The promoter reserves the right to request finalists to provide proof of identity and winners toprovide proof of residency at the nominated prize delivery address. Identification consideredsuitable for verification is at the discretion of the promoter.13. The promoter shall endeavour to contact the finalists by phone or email within one week of theprize judging. In the event that a winner cannot be contacted by 5pm Sunday 27 September 2015,the prize will be forfeited by the winner.Young Archie 2015 competition3

14. The promoter shall not be liable for any loss or damage whatsoever which is suffered (includingbut not limited to direct or consequential loss) or for any personal injury suffered or sustained inconnection with any prize/s, except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law.15. The promoter can take no responsibility for any loss or damage to an artwork entry while in itscustody or in transit.16. An artwork will only be returned to an entrant if a stamped self-addressed envelope has beenprovided at the time of entry. After 5pm Sunday 27 September 2015 the promoter may destroy orotherwise dispose of any other entry (including those of finalists and winners) in any manner itdeems fit and shall be under no liability whatsoever to the entrant in respect of the artwork sodestroyed or disposed of.17. Prizes are as follows for each of the four winners: a gift card from ANZ to the value of 100, anart hamper from Faber-Castell (valued at 150), a family pass to the upcoming exhibition The Greats:masterpieces of Western art from the National Galleries of Scotland at the Gallery (valued at at least 28), an ANZ money box (valued at 20) and an Archibald 15 catalogue (valued at 16) - total prizevalue is 314. For each of the remaining 16 finalists, the prize is an art pack from Faber-Castell(valued at 25), an ANZ money box (valued at 20) and an Archibald 15 catalogue (valued at 16) total prize value 61.18. ANZ gift cards will be given to a parent or guardian, who may be asked to sign the card.19. Prizes cannot be transferred. Non-cash prizes cannot be redeemed for cash. In the event that forany reason whatsoever a winner does not take an element of the prize at the time stipulated by thepromoter then that element of the prize will be forfeited by the winner and cash will not be awardedin lieu of that element of the prize.Supported byYoung Archie 2015 competition4
