(emailed copy) & 55.00 pa. (emailed &printed). The Chair asked Rhonda whether the current rate is sufficient to cover the ongoing cost. Rhonda replied yes. The Chairthen proposed the fees to remain the same.Moved: David WeatherheadSeconded: Rhonda HuittMembership payment should be paid by end of August 2018. Cheryl Weatherhead said it is fine for members but someleeway for permits till September 2018.General Business.Bernie had some concerns about the way the club is not being compliance.Members need to be aware & knowledgeable about the club constitution.Bernie said recently the committee pass a decision where the President’s term can be more than 2 years. However, allpositions remain vacant at the AGM hence there is no need to keep the President nor any position on a term basis.Paul Grady suggested that the constitution be linked to the club website for easy reference. This suggestion wasagreed upon.Moved: Paul GradySeconded: Robbie DaltonThe Chair felt that the future of the club is at a crossroad, need new blood, restructure the committee – too much to bedone, Committee meetings be held quarterly instead of monthly.David Weatherhead said monthly meeting were important otherwise certain events gets loss eg: insurance etc.The Chair said to use the current monthly run sheet if needed. The Chair said Model A club, the treasurer is in Wodonga 7 he emails the accounts across.Paul Grady asked to put it to the members if that would interest the members by splitting up roles etc. – No takers fromthe floor.Chris Dillon mentioned that some club position will be easier if the roles are split. Secretary’s position needs to be filledwithin 14 days of the AGM.Barry Hancock ask what happens to the money in FD if the club decided to merge. The Chair stated that in the eventthe club decides to amalgamate eg: with Model A club, then note, Model A club does not except other cars, but Ford &it must be registered before 1948. Monies in bank will need to go to another club via Consumer Affairs. Hence it is notan easy fix.

Page 7MODEL T TORQUEJune 2019Chris Dillon had talked to members asking them to assist but no luck. Hoping members at Cameron’s Corner wouldhave talked & put their hands up.The Secretary needs to informed Vic Roads about non-Financial members. The Chair ask the members to come to the next month meeting with thoughts on the different position available & it’srestructuring. Meanwhile please contact John English on his mobile:0407871670 for further discussion.Fiona to contact Andrew Brand to email all members asking if anyone may be interested in serving the new committee.Paul Grady suggested to get more members to participate, the club will need to spend about 2000/- per year to create a virtual committee by video conferencing. (members in the committee can remotely logged in for meetings etcwithout leaving their homes – benefiting out of town members).Bernie said at AOMC meeting recently, it was noted that about 25-35% of Car clubs are having an aging membership& will not be able to use virtual connection. It may be the same situation with our club. The Chair noted that the current Secretary will lodge all documents with Consumer Affairs. The Chair thanked the outgoing committee for the good work done. The Chair thanked & welcomed the incoming committee.Meeting closed by at 9.00 pm.Continuation of AGM of MTFCV as held at Ashburton Library on Friday August 10 th 2018 commencing at 8.05pm.Bernie McKeegan who chaired the AGM is overseas and therefore this extension of the AGM is being chaired by NoelHuitt. This meeting is solely aimed at election of Official Office Bearers. There was only one nomination for each position available. These are David Weatherhead for President, John English for Vice President, Joanne Baulch for Secretary and Rhonda Huitt for Treasurer.Committee members nominated are Dean Williams, Steve Brown, Geoff Brooke and Graham Hadden.A vote was put to the floor that these people be duly elected. The floor voted unanimously that these people be accepted as the new committee for 2018-2019 club year of MTFCV.Moved Geof BaulchSeconded Jeyadeva RetnamAs this is all the business that needed to be conducted the meeting was closed at 8.10 pm

Page 8MODEL T TORQUEJune 2019Vale Joseph John (John) EnglishIt is with great sadness that I speak of the passing of John on Tuesday the 27th May 2019whilst in care at the Foster Hospital.A couple of other club members and I had the privilege of speaking with John before his passing. It was so sad to see a friend passing almost before you. This was a time that I will holdclose for ever.John was such an enthusiastic and knowledgeable person with such impressionable thoughtsabout our beloved hobby of tinkering with cars and especially with Model T Fords.

Page 9MODEL T TORQUEJune 2019The effort that he put to improving his treasured speedster was quite evident with changes tosuspension, braking and the power plant that was put together by David Weatherhead. That allowed him to drive with confidence and safety. So much so that earlier this year he wasseen driving the Model T Speedster with a trailer attached, on his way to a swap meet inGippsland. That must have been quite a sight to see. It would have been some distance travelled from Toora and back again.Picture: John and his wife Terase main street Toora in SpeedsterLast year John, as we all know, put his hand up to be our Vice President at a time when theclub was struggling to get a club committee together. Thanks John

Page 10MODEL T TORQUEJune 2019In 2015 while I was on my own rally travelling around Gippsland in my newly acquired Model T Coupe, I found myself parked out the front of Johns workshop in Toora, it was a time inmy life, (sadly I have had many) that I may have been looking for some direction and the person that reached out to me at that moment was John English. It was a very personal experience for me and he was able to share some very good guidanceand so a new friendship began for us both it was just great! At the end of my visits over thenext 4 Days John handed me this strange Cartoon pictured below. I did however have a fewissues with my T Model while I was on my rally. I think this is why he gave me the cartoon. As mentioned at his Funeral service, John was able to put his amazing engineering and welding skills to work in any situation at his workshop at Toora, where the club had visited severaltimes. John had been working on another car project over the past 4 Years, it was a 40s eraLanchester chassis which would have originally been some kind of English Saloon car.The project was well underway with the suspension, braking system, steering and differentialand Willies wheels fitted. When finished it would have been your classic Hot Rod with a mixture of components from other Vehicles and an A Model engine. At this time the project is unfinished. When visiting John not much more than 3 weeks ago, he was in the workshop explaining to me and a group of other friends, how he was going on to finish the project.John you will be missed by so many people in our Model T Club and in the greater world. Thanks for your friendship. We all wish you high flying in the world of Model T motoring.Farewell John I am sure we will meet again.Trevor Merton

Page 13MODEL T TORQUEJune 2019Clearing Sale Report by Andrew BrandOn Sunday 19th May I attended a clearing sale at Woomelang. It was the lifetime collection of the late Mr.Glen Boxall and included cars, trucks, tractors, implements, machinery and parts from the veteran andvintage era through to the 1990's. I hadn't intended to go. As much as I like clearing sales, I've been under theweather lately and have been trying to take it easy. I had previously looked at the photos and although therewas clearly some T stuff, I couldn't see anything special enough to warrant a 4.5-hour drive, so I'd decided tolet this one pass.On the Thursday before the auction I happened to be looking at the updated photos (just in case!) and noticeda trailer frame made from what looked like a partial FN chassis sticking out of a large pile.Looking closer at the photos I thought I could seevarious cross members, front springs and a front axlestill attached. FN (Fabrique Nationale) cars areanother of my interests and it seemed to be the samemodel as mine. There are only 6 or 7 of that model surviving so itwas worth chasing for spares. I discussed it withFelicity and she was supportive but suggested thatgiven my dodgy health I should stay in a motel ratherthan sleep in the car. It was a wise idea and I reserveda room for Saturday night at the Birchip Motel whichwas only about 30 minutes from Woomelang. The trip to the property on Sunday morning was astream of empty trailers. As I pulled in to the parkingarea I noticed a lot of NSW number plates. I alsoheard one person say they had driven from Cranbourne that morning. Clearly the sale had attractedbuyers from a wide radius. There were over 450 lotsand several hundred buyers. I arrived at about 8.30and started systematically going through the lotslooking for Ford and FN parts. Considering theamount of stuff at the sale, it was surprising how littlemodel T stuff there was as a proportion. However, there were odd T parts distributed amongst it.I found the FN chassis still half buried in a pile ofscrap. Interestingly, the draw bar was made from apair of 26-27T frame rails. The whole pile was lot 238 which wasdescribed as "LARGE AMOUNT OF EARLY CAR& TRUCK PARTS WITH A PICK". "With a pick"means buyers can nominate items of interest to beauctioned separately, so that was my plan.I had noted items of interest and alternated betweenwatching particular lots going up for auction and more searching. It was fun to stand at a lot and wait for thethrong to surround you, then move on again. I did so at lot 85 which was a 1922-25 model T frame and axlesthat had been made into a farm trailer. It was in reasonably good condition and sold cheaply for 40. I spoketo the buyer who said he may take it to Ballarat swap to resell. I also watched a set of 1920's Tarrant hoodsockets sell for 100.

Page 14MODEL T TORQUEJune 2019When the FN lot came up I was there waiting so had a front row position. Before the auctioneer had finishedasking if anyone wanted particular items 3 blokes yelled out. It turned out 2 wanted the same thing - a Dodgecowl. That was auctioned then the third bloke nominated a mudguard from a Bren Gun Carrier. Once that wasfinished the auctioneer said, "Anyone else?" I said "Yep - the trailer frame sticking up in the air". Nobody elsewas interested, so I was the new owner. If I hadn't been there, it would have gone to scrap.Buying it was one thing, extracting it was another. There was a telehandler available at 20 per lift, but theywere busy with a queue of buyers waiting, so I decided I'd see what I could do. Everyone had followed theauctioneer to the next row of lots so there was nobody around to help. The chassis was surrounded by a tangleof engines, diffs with springs attached, driveshafts, etc. After about half an hour's work I had uncovered thechassis enough to tip it over, and from there I was able to drag it clear of the pile and back the trailer up to it.I was chastising myself for neglecting to bring a winch when I remembered I had some heavy-duty ratchet tiedowns. I was able to use those (along with some alternate heaving from behind) to skid the chassis up onto thetrailer. Once I had it tied down I took stock and decided that as much as I would have liked to stay for the restof the auction it was time for me to leave. I was pooped and there was still a 4.5 hour drive ahead of me.Apart from the FN parts I came home with some T parts: a pair of decent 1922-25 frame rails, a 1917-20 fan,and a 1909-14 front radius rod, bent but recoverable. The frame rails were picked out of another pile of scrapand again I was the only bidder. The radius rod was in the back of an Austin Seven and I was able to buy itfrom the new owner. Other T parts I saw were a front wheel, a few hubs, a 1919-25 transmission cover, a verynice steering wheel, a diff housing, a nice 1919-25 headlight with the lens intact, some good demountable rims, and a 1915 fork mounted headlight shell. The FN trailer frame will yield 2 things that were missing from mycar - one front spring and a motor support, so I'm very happy!Andrew Brand
