Think back to when you first learned tobake a cake. You followed the recipe onthe back of the box and after a few triesyou had it. For many of us, we can get byin life by using cake mixes and followingthe recipe on the back of the box.

And then there will be those of us whoenjoy cake making so much that we willextend our skills. We will becomeprofessional cake bakers and master floursifting and cake decorating. But not all ofus have to be able to bake at this level tobe successful. Writing is very similar tobaking a cake. We can get the job donesuccessfully by following a recipe. If wewant to add style and give our piecevoice, we can step out of the box.

Grade 8TEACHER’S QUESTION:How do a direct democratic voting system and a representative democraticvoting system differ from each other? Include at least two details from thepassage to support your answer. The democratic voting system and therepresentative voting system are very different fromeach other. First, the democratic voting system is thecandidate who gets the most votes is the person whowins. For example, if there were to canidates for asmall town, everyone over 18 would vote for them. Then all the votes would be counted, whoever getsmore votes wins. Second, the representativedemocracy system is different because they don’t justvote. For example each state is assigned a number ofofficial voters (electors) and together they make up“Electoral College.” The members of the systemactually count up the votes that people make anddecide on what they think is best. Their decision isbased on which canidate most of the people in thatstate prefer. In conclution, those are the reasons whydemocratic voting and representative democracy aredifferent from each other.
