Spring FTX OPORD 11 APR 2009I)Situationa. Enemy Forces: OPFORi. Typically composed of 2-3 man teams, lightly armed with M16A2 rifles.Also occasionally have use of vehicles, and may have bunkers with crewserved weapons.b. Friendly Forces: MIT Army ROTC Cadrei. Will function as tactical advisors during Squad STX operations and willoversee the entire Field Training Exercisec. Attachments/Detachments: BU AROTC Charles River BrigadeII)Mission: The Paul Revere Army ROTC Battalion conducts a joint Spring FTX withBoston University AROTC in order to provide cadets with proper training in squadtactics and a practical field experienceIII)ExecutionIntent: It is the Commander’s intent that all cadets learn key aspects of small unitleadership and field-craft, and that all MSIIIs are adequately prepared for LDACa. Concept of the Operationi. Phase I: ADVON Deploymentii. Phase II: Main Body Deploymentiii. Phase III: Patrol Base Operationsiv. Phase IV: Squad STX and Patrol Base Operationsv. Phase V: Range Operationsvi. Phase VI: Redeployment/Recoverb. Maneuveri. Phase I: The Advance party (Ocasio, Burns, Wellman) will deploy to FT.Devens from MIT NLT 170900APR09. ADVON will arrive at the unitNLT 170800APR09 hrs to prepare for departure. They will also take thefollowing equipment with them: weapons in weapon racks, hand receipts,water jugs, MREs, equipment for Saturday’s STX lanes rucks for all Cadets.ii. Phase II: The main body deployment will occur by two methods: air andground-based transportation. Those Cadets being transported by air willtravel from Harvard to Ft. Devens in two lifts, and from Winter Island to Ft.Devens in one lift; each lift consisting of two helicopters.Harvard LZ:NLT 171230APR09, all Endicott Cadets traveling by air will bepresent at Endicott, and they will leave via the Endicott Van at 1245 forthe Harvard LZ. All Boston Cadets and Endicott Cadets traveling by airwill arrive at the Harvard LZ NLT 171330APR09, with all equipment notalready left at the unit. At approximately 1400, the two aircraft will arriveat the Harvard LZ; the first lift will leave for Ft. Devens NLT 1445.Following transportation of the first lift, the second lift will leave Harvardat 1525.Winter Island LZ:NLT 171300APR09, all North Shore Cadets traveling by air (exceptEndicott) will arrive at the O’Keefe Center at Salem State. They willleave the O’Keefe center by van NLT 1330 with MAJ Perrin. The van

will arrive NLT 1400 at the Winter Island LZ. The aircraft for the WinterIsland lift will arrive NLT 1600, and transport Cadets to Ft. Devens.Ground Transportation:Those Cadets traveling by bus on the Boston side will arrive at theMIT Army ROTC building NLT 171430APR09. They will depart MITNLT 1500, after a roll call is conducted by CDT Bras. A bus will also bestaged at the Salem State O’Keefe Center, for those North Shore cadetsunable to fly (and as a contingency for any loss of air transportation).Late Vans:Late vans will also be transporting those Cadets who cannot makethe regular air or ground transport times. These Cadets will leave fromMIT (CPT McMahon at the unit) and Salem State (MAJ Perrin at theO’Keefe Center) in vans NLT 172000APR09.iii. Phase III: Friday patrol base operations will begin upon arrival at Ft. Devenson 17APR09. Boston Company will occupy the patrol base upon arrival andlink up with North Shore Company. If North Shore is delayed, BostonCompany will proceed with Friday night classes. In addition, as Cadetsarrive at the patrol base, CDT Wellman, SSG Andrews and Mr. Thomas willbegin to issue out weapons and MREs to all MSI’s, II’s, and III’s.Following the arrival of all Cadets (not including late van) by approximately1700, field craft and PB classes will begin. Following completion ofclasses, Cadets will consume their dinner meal and begin priorities of workfor the night. Following completion of priorities of work, MSI’s and II’swill begin their rest plan at approx. 2200. MS III’s will continue to preparefor STX lanes until 2300, at which time they will begin their rest plan.iv. Phase IV: This phase begins with first call at 180400APR09 and concludeswith lights out. First call at 0400 hrs is followed by breakfast meal (A) anda police call at 0500hrs, BN formation at 0535hrs, link-up with BU at 0545,and movement to the first lane rotation at 0600. Rotation 1 begins at 0630and STX lanes will proceed until 1910. Cadets will ruck back to the patrolbase where, following a brass and ammo check, a BN formation will beheld. After gaining accountability, the dinner meal (hot) will begin at 1930.CPT Griffiths and CDT Ocasio will serve as ADVON for hot chow.Immediately after dinner, MS Is and IIs will conduct additional trainingfrom 2000-2100. This will be followed by a tick check and personal hygienefrom 2100-2200. When training is completed, the Platoon Leaders will posta security rotation followed by rest plan NLT 2200. MS IIIs will conduct adebriefing, additional training, and patrol base operations in the adjacentfield from 2000-2200. In the event of inclement weather, hot chow andbilleting will be moved to Bldg. 653C/D.v. Phase V: First call will be 190600APR09, followed by personal hygiene anda police-call. Cadets will then begin a ruck march NLT 0630 to Range X-1on foot (4 miles). Range ADVON will proceed by vehicle to the range NLT0630hrs. Once at the range, hot chow will be conducted from 0730-0800.This will be followed by range operations from 0815-1130. Cadets willreceive a safety brief from the c/XO, zero and qualify, and move to theBldg. 653C/D for weapons cleaning as they finish. The range will becleared from 1130-1200, and a brass and ammo check will occur from 12001215. At 1215, Cadets will clean weapons UTC; approximate time ofcompletion is 1430. Each weapon must be inspected by an MSIV/cadre

prior to dismissal. As each weapon is turned-in, it will be loaded onto thebox truck with Mr. Thomas supervising.vi. This phase begins at approximately 191430APR09 with the conclusion ofrange operations. The buses will depart following completion of weaponsturn in for MIT and the North Shore. Vehicles will also depart, carryingweapons and equipment, for MIT. FTX AARs may be conducted en route.Following arrival at the North Shore and accountability, Cadets will bereleased. Upon arrival at MIT, Boston Company cadets will form up in theparking lot and carry all equipment inside. Following accountability of allCadets and completion of equipment turn-in, all Cadets will be released.c. Tasks to Maneuver Units:i. Cadre: Supervise all movements, formations and training; supervise andcoordinate aircraft transportationii. c/XO: Perform all safety briefs, and leave as part of ADVON on Fridayiii. c/S-3:1.
