42B-4KEYLESS OPERATION SYSTEM (KOS)GENERAL INFORMATIONGENERAL INFORMATIONM14209100001USA0000010000NOTE: In this manual, F.A.S.T.-key (Free-handAdvanced Security Transmitter) is described asKeyless Operation System (KOS).The Keyless Operation System (KOS) enables thedriver to unlock all the doors*and the liftgate by justpulling the front door outside handle or operating theliftgate lock release handle, without taking the key outfrom his/her pocket or bag when he/she is carrying aKeyless Operation Key which has been registered inthe vehicle's KOS-ECU. KOS also allows the driver tolock all the doors and the liftgate by pressing the lockswitch on the front door outside handle or on theliftgate lock release handle (door entry function), andstart the engine without using the conventionalmechanical key (engine start function). KOS has thefollowing features:⦆The keyless operation key incorporates the lockand unlock switches on it. Like the conventionalkeyless entry system, remote control operation canbe performed by using these switches. The keylessoperation key also incorporates an indicator lightthat enables the driver to check if the signal istransmitted correctly or if the battery in the key isdischarged.⦆The keyless operation Key incorporates theimmobilizer function that inhibits starting the engineby using an unauthorized key.⦆The incorporated TPMS function monitors the airpressure of all the tires.⦆Each vehicle is provided with two keyless operationkeys. Up to four keyless operation keys can beregistered in the vehicle's KOS-ECU.⦆The keyless operation key incorporates anemergency key with a transponder to lock/unlockthe doors and start the engine in case the battery inthe keyless operation key is discharged or theKeyless Operation System is not working normally.⦆The driver can customize KOS; enabling/disablingall the system functions, enabling the door locking/unlocking function only, or enabling the enginestarting function only.NOTE: When the driver’s front door outsidehandle is operated, only the driver’s door isunlocked.

When the lock/unlock switch on the keylessoperation key is pressed, corresponding signal is sent to KOSECU via the receiver antenna module.⦆If two or more keyless operation keys registered in KOS-ECUrespond at the same time, their signals would interfere. Toavoid this interference, each signal from KOS-ECU is giventhe priority*1data, and the keyless operation keys respond inaccordance with this priority.Lock switchDriver's doorFrontdoorLocks all the doors and the liftgate when a driver carrying thepassenger's keyless operation key presses the lock switch on the front dooroutside handle or on the liftgate lock release handle.LiftgateUnlock sensorDriver's doorThe unlock sensors incorporated in the driver’s front dooroutside handles unlock driver’s the door when a driver carryingthe keyless operation key pulls the driver’s door outside handle.Frontdoorpassenger's The unlock sensors incorporated in the passenger's front dooroutside handles unlock all the doors and the liftgate when adriver carrying the keyless operation key pulls the front dooroutside handle.Liftgate lock release handleLocks all the doors and the liftgate when a driver carrying thekeyless operation key presses the lock switch on the front dooroutside handle or on the liftgate lock release handle.Exterior transmitter Driver's sideConverts the data output from KOS-ECU via wire into a signal, antenna assemblyFront passenger's and sends it to the keyless operation key.sideInterior transmitter Frontantenna assemblyRearConverts the data output from KOS-ECU via wire into a signal, and sends it to the keyless operation key.Antenna & tone Exterior transmitter Converts the data output from KOS-ECU via wire into a signal, alarm assemblyantenna assembly and sends it to the keyless operation key.(liftgate)Outer tone alarmThe outer tone alarm sounds when:⦆The doors are locked or unlocked by the door entry function.⦆The keyless operation key is brought out of the vehicle whenthe IG knob is in the "LOCK" (OFF) position and the pushswitch is in other than the ON position.⦆The lock switch on the keyless operation switch is pressedwhen the IG knob is in the "LOCK" (OFF) position and the pushswitch is in other than the ON position.⦆The lock switch on the keyless operation key is pressed frominside the car.⦆The lock switch on the keyless operation key is pressed whenthe door is ajar.

Sends the vehiclespeed data.NOTE: *1: When registering the keyless operationkeys, KOS-ECU numbers each key (1 to 4) in theorder they are registered (initial priority). Thispriority is renewed each time the doors arelocked/unlocked and the IG knob is pressed. Forexample, when only keys 1 and 3 have responded tothe signal sent from KOS-ECU, the new priority ofthe keys would be 1-3-2-4. When keys 3 and 4 haveresponded, then the priority of the keys becomes3-4-1-2.NOTE: *2: Illuminates for tire pressure warning.Flashes for about 1 minute and then coutinuouslyilluminated for TPMS malfunction warning.
