NYU Langone HealthSupplemental Design GuidelinesINTRODUCTIONINTRODUCTIONHOW TO USE THIS DOCUMENTThis document supplements the 2019 NYU Langone Health – Design Guidelines. The purpose isto provide alternatives for certain components of a project. The RED F PM will advise the A/EDesign Team if this document shall be used in conjunction with the Design Guidelines on theirproject. When so stipulated, the Supplemental Design Guidelines will be mandatory for allaffected components. There may be risks associated with using such items, including the needto repair or replace them more often, but it has been determined they are within acceptablerange for use on certain NYU Langone Health projects. The Table of Contents within this document lists the subsections that have been modified fromthe Design Guidelines. Each such subsection provides approved alternatives for particularprojects. Refer to the 2019 NYU Langone Health – Design Guidelines for subsections not listedhere.PurposeWith over 11 million square feet at locations throughout the New York metropolitan region, NYULangone Health leases, owns and operates an enormous variety of buildings. The NYU LangoneHealth – Design Guidelines and the Supplemental Design Guidelines have been created to assistarchitects, interior designers, engineers and project managers by providing direction regardingour requirements and design goals, as we continue to upgrade existing facilities and build newones. The Design Guidelines and the Supplemental Design Guidelines are not intended to repeator replace any code mandated requirements. Compliance with relevant codes is the soleresponsibility of the A/E Team.Goals EfficiencyA principal goal is to improve the efficiency of the design process by clarifyingrequirements and improving operations and maintenance by creating a commonality ofsystems and products across our expanding portfolio. Where appropriate, approvedmaterials and products are indicated in the Design Guidelines and the SupplementalDesign Guidelines. The aim is not to limit design expression but to guide the architectsand engineers toward solutions that are in conformance with our construction andmaintenance practices. Improving efficiency in design, construction and operations willbe of substantial financial benefit to our institution. Design Excellence and Quality ConstructionNYU Langone Health is committed to design excellence, and stands by the premise thatintelligent planning, inspired design, meticulous documentation, and quality constructionare all indispensable to this effort, and will bring added value to our organization. TheDesign Guidelines and the Supplemental Design Guidelines have been created in supportof this goal.Real Estate Development and Facilities20191
