Prezi is one of the teaching materials thathelp students in learning process. This study aims toexplore the effectiveness of using Prezi in Islamiceducation subject among secondary schools under thetopic of marriage in Islam: polygamy. Specifically itsaim is to identify student’s interest and examine theirattitude towards the uses of Prezi in learning Islamiceducations.A total of 22 students participated in the survey, employing a 22-item questionnaire. The data wasanalyzed quantitatively using Statistical Package for theSocial Sciences (SPSS). Result from this study revealedthat student shows their interest in learning IslamicEducations when teachers use Prezi. In additionsstudents also show positive attitude towards uses of Preziin Classroom. As conclusions, the uses of Prezipresentation is easy and its technique for developing amore creative and innovative approach in teachingstrategies among Islamic educators.Keywords- Prezi, Student Perception, AttitudeI.INTRODUCTIONToday, we are facing students who are living in theworld of digital natives. According to Marc Prensky (2001)and Platt (2011), screen teenagers are the screen natives andteachers are the screen immigrants. Today’s students speakdigitally; they are all “native speakers” of the digitallanguage of computers (Xiao, 2013). If we educators do nottake up the challenge to be compatible with our students’ability, we will be left behind. The circumstances willbecome more worst when the role of educator can asinformation transmitters will be no more significant sincestudents can find everything they required without anyguidance outside of their classrooms ( Jusoh, 2009).www.ijascse.orgIf this happens, we as Muslim educators are responsible forit, based on Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (SAW): “Everyone of you is a caretaker, and every caretaker is responsiblefor what he is caretaker of” (Narrated by Imam Bukhari). This study aims to explore the effectiveness ofusing Prezi in Islamic education subject among secondaryschools under the topic of marriage in Islam: polygamy. There are different types of teaching aids involvingcomputer usage or application such as PowerPointpresentation, macromedia flash, video, Facebook, website,Prezi and so on. Although different technologies such asmoving film projectors, radio, instructional television, cassette players, and Video Cassette Recorders (VCRs) havebeen used in the classroom, they were only available around1970s as personal computers found their way into schools(Sharp, 2006).Generally, the materials that teachers use inteaching and learning process are to enhance students’performance in interest and perception towards the subjectof Islamic education. This report will discuss about one ofthe teaching materials that help teachers in teaching andlearning process (Forland & Kingston , 2004).In order to make Islamic education class creativeand innovative, teachers should know and be alert of thecurrent technologies that are suitable and in line withstudents needs and interest. According to Keengwe (2008),technology cannot be assumed that once educationaltechnology tools are available, teachers will have tointegrate them into their daily classroom instruction. On thecontrary, teachers need to go beyond the common taskinstead of just providing more machines in the classroom.Because of the rapid technology, the researcher uses thelatest application called Prezi.Prezi can be taught creatively in the classroom andthrough exciting activities in order to attract students’attention via zooming in the main ideas clearly and expressclear explanation.Page 51

Dec. 31IJASCSE, Volume 2, Issue 6, 2013A. Delimitation of the StudyThe study is focused on form five students in SekolahMenengah Kebangsaan Seri Keramat, Gombak, SelangorDarul Ehsan. The researcher only taught one class (Form 5Saidina Uthman) as a representative in order to examine theeffectiveness of using Prezi in Islamic education subjectespecially in the topic polygamy.II.LITERATURE REVIEWA. Importance of TechnologyNowadays in the urban life, the need of technology is moreimportance than ever. Studies have shown that withtechnology the students have shown their improvement inwriting, math problem, social network and reading (Higgins,n.d). Furthermore, with technology the number of dropoutrates has decrease and enchantment in their learning abilities. It also can improve student attendance and make thelearning’s more fun and exciting (Willingham, 2010).Moreover, via the technology the official procedures ofschool can be simplified and the school records such as theinformation about students, employs and teachers can bemaintained effectively in a school database.B. PreziThe name of the product that researcher used was Prezi.Prezi the zooming editor tool was officially launched inApril 2009 (Prezi.com). Prezi is a Hungarian softwarecompany, producing a cloud-based presentation softwareand storytelling tool for presenting ideas on a virtual canvas. The product employs a Zooming User Interface (ZUI),which allow users to zoom in and out of their presentationmedia, and allows user to display and navigate throughinformation within a 2.5D or parallax 3D space on Z-axis.Prezi was officially established in 2009 by co-foundersAdam Somlai –Fischer, Peter Halacsy and Peter Arvai.(refer www.prezi.com ). This product was significant in newteaching and learning process in Islamic educaion. This is inline with Malaysia's aspiration to achieve students’ abilitiesto increase their thinking critically and creatively. The study also provide teachers with analternative in teaching strategy in Islamic Education by usingPrezi which consists of images, video clips and music.Transformation of education system today like KSSMemphasize on effective learning for students. According to A.H. Tamuri, 2007, he stated that most of Islamic teachersmade minor modifications in approaches to the lessons, which relied on their own knowledge and creativity. Inaddition, problem-solving skills and ability to create newopportunities are suitable with Malaysia aspiration to developwww.ijascse.orgexcellent students. The researcher included suitable images,Qur’anic verses with sound by famous readers, Sheikh SaidAlGhamidi and two of the video clips that were appropriateto the topic. The first video was displayed during the setinduction and last video during the conclusion to makestudents participate during question and answers session. The process of making Prezi slide presentation issimilar to creating a PowerPoint presentation. First, theresearcher needs to go to www.prezi.com to download theprogramme to the computer. However, the differences of thismethod is in terms the focus of zooming and attracting theattention from the students.First, when selecting the topic, the researcher used thetopic ‘polygamy’ taken from form five subject of Islamiceducation. Content had been taken from textbook as it is themain reference of the students. Besides that, the researcheralso searched for some information through internet andbooks to make sure students could understand the topic andthe objective that the teacher wanted to achieve. All theinformation was included in Prezi in 15 slide presentation. This topic was taught for 30 minutes period. The researcheralso chooses the template or concept of ‘game’ which showsmetaphore or analogy when a husband starts to decide onpolygamy as the solution in his life, he then needs toovercome all the obstacles in front him (see table 1).Table 1: General overview about the polygamy topicSecondly, the researcher chose the video which isappropriate to the topic. It had been taken from Youtube, thefamous channel where very useful and beneficial materialsin the education field are shared or uploaded online. Theresearcher choose the classical Malay famous movie, namely, Madu Tiga which is Tan Sri P. Ramlee as the actor. The video clip duration is approximately around threeminutes to arouse students’ attention. Next, the researcherchosed to write the definition of polygamy in second slides, the hukum of polygamy in third slide and also the quranicverses from surah An nisa, verses number three with thePage 52

Dec. 31IJASCSE, Volume 2, Issue 6, 2013audio recitation by one of the famous qari Sheikh SaidAlGhamidi from Masjidil Haram. In addition, when the researcher wrote about thenegative consequences, the slide after the obstacle showsabout the advantages of polygamy in terms of individual andsociety. In brief, the last presentation is about one of thevideo clips in the same film ‘Madu Tiga’ and the purposedof viewing the video clip is to attract the students’ attentionabout some of the problems faced in the marriages and try tosolved them by discussion with the teacher and students. Asa conclusion of making the Prezi presentation, theresearcher should make sure that the main objective will beachieved by considering the level of age and knowledge ofthe audience. It is important to ensure whether it isappropriate to the level of the teenagers or not.Table 2: Zoom in processAfter that, the researcher selected the zoom infeature from slide 6 to 7 to give the students impact infocusing the important point about ‘syarat poligamy’ andthe explanation from the teacher. (See table 2).Furthermore,when the researcher started to discuss about the implicationif the polygamy does not follow the Islamic rules, theresearcher choosed the big obstacle for instance, monsterimages (Table 3) and direct zoom in to the main point.C. Students’ Attitude]The uses of technology in learning cannot be deniednowadays. Study done by Hong, Ridzuan and Kuek(2003) shows that most of students have a positive attitudetowards technology as a learning tools. From their study, itssuccessfully investigate that the uses of the technology canprovide sufficient basic knowledge. In addition students alsosupport the uses of the technology for learning. Initially thefinding consistence with Wah (2006) when he discover thatstudents considered the uses Instructional material givethem benefit in improving their achievement inexamination. This study involved Form Four students from selectedsecondary School. This result similarly was investigated byCagiltary and Kaya (2011). The students which has beendone on students (46) and alumni (21), 67 people (30female, 37 male) from 12 different universities in Turkeydiscover that all of them records positive attitude towardsthe uses of technology in teaching and learning. Moreover it has been acknowledged that, students preferredtechnology as main support for their study (Usun, 2004).www.ijascse.orgPage 53

Dec. 31IJASCSE, Volume 2, Issue 6, 2013which was equivalent to 31% agreed that Prezi couldincrease their interest to learn.Usun run study on 156 undergraduate students fromDepartment of Educational Sciences and Department ofComputer and Educational Technologies in 2003 discoveredthat, students benefited from the uses of technology inlearning.III.The first section is about students’ interest towards usingPrezi in Islamic education. For example, I like to learn thissubject by using software Prezi. The second section is aboutstudents’ perception towards teaching strategies like Preziusage in teaching process makes me maintain myconcentration in learning Islamic studies and the last part isabout the tools in Prezi itself like the usage of fonts, musicor video clips. For instance, The usage of video clip, music, and pictures in Prezi are suitable to the topicAfter the questionnaires were answered by the students, theresearcher analyses the data by using Statistical Package forthe Social Sciences (SPSS). The data are presented in theformat of frequencies and percentage. The researcher usesthe SPSS programme to examine the result from therespondents. CONCLUSIONTeaching and learning by using Prezi provides a newtechnique in terms of focusing and attracting students’attention in teaching and learning process. As a conclusion, the researcher may say that, by using a proper way ofteaching and learning, we can achieve a certainimprovement in the examination. Like what the researcherhas done in this study, the students seemed to come from anaverage level of class. However, with the use of thismethod, it really provides students with positive attitude andinterest towards learning Islamic education. The method of using Prezi presentation is easy and itstechnique for developing a more creative and innovativeapproach in teaching strategies among Islamic educators. The method can be used not only in the teaching andlearning in class and school but it can also be appliedwww.ijascse.org[1] Aliff, M., Nawi, M., Jamsari, E.
