Not all parts are neededfor every installation.NOTE:This installation should be done OFF the vehicle.

1.Remove the three (3) screws securing the manual choke (see Figure 1). Remove the fastener clip from the choke rod andthe manual choke backing plate. Retain the fastener clip for a later time.Figure 1Figure 22.Remove the screw holding the fast idle levers (see Figure 2). Remove the fast idle levers and spring. Retain the screw fora later time.3.Check the two (2) counter-bored holes to see if either one is drilled through. Blow compressed air into either of theseholes. If air exits from the bottom of the carburetor, plug the hole with the lead ball provided in the kit.4.On automotive applications, use the new fast idle lever, spring, and small lever from the kit and the screw retained in step 2above (see Figure 3). Assemble the parts onto the throttle shaft. See Figures 4, 5, & 6. On marine applications, use thenew lever provided in the kit. Assemble the lever onto the throttle shaft.Figure 3Figure 45.2Figure 5Assemble the choke housing to the main body. Make sure the choke rod is through the hole in the lever on the back of thechoke housing. Make sure that the fast idle cam (red lever) is above the choke rod. Slide the housing onto the choke roduntil the lever is past the hole in the rod. Using the fastener clip retained in step 1, secure the choke housing to the rod.On automotive applications, ensure that the fast idle cam is above the choke rod, and that the fastener clip secures thechoke lever.

Figure 66.Using the three- (3) middle-length screws from the kit, secure the choke housing to the main body (see Figure 7). Operatethe choke plate by moving the bi-metal pick-up lever. The choke plate should move freely. If the choke plate does notmove freely, check the choke linkage to make sure there is no binding. Check that the fast idle screw is in alignment withthe red cam on the back of the choke housing.7.Install the new choke cap gasket onto the housing.Figure 78.Figure 8Install the electric choke cap and retaining ring. Install the ring so it bows outward from the choke cap (Figure 8).IMPORTANT: When installing the choke cap, be sure the bi-metal pick-up lever (in the housing) fits into the loop onthe bi-metal spring. Check this by turning the choke cap in both directions. The choke plate shouldopen when rotated clockwise and should close when rotated counter clockwise.9.Using the three (3) equal-length short screws from the kit, fasten the retaining ring and choke cap to the choke housing justenough to hold the cap in place, but will allow the choke cap to be rotated (see Figure 6 on the next page).Figure 9Figure 10NOTE: Do not block the fresh air intake, as shown by the arrow in the photo above.10. Rotate the choke cap until the mark on the cap aligns with the index on the choke housing. Tighten the retaining screws sothe cap cannot rotate as shown above in Figure 9.3

11. Use the shortest wire from the kit and connect the bayonet end to the negative choke cap terminal marked (-). Ground theeyelet end to the carburetor. Do this either under a screw on the vacuum secondary diaphragm cover or under a screwsecuring the choke housing to the main body as shown in Figure 10.WARNING: Correct polarity must be observed when connecting the electric choke wires. Connecting the ( ) lead toground and the (-) lead to a 12V source will result in a direct short and could cause a fire. The 12V sourceselected should be fused. If not, an inline fuse rated at 10 amps should be installed.12. On marine engines, the de-choke must be set. With the choke fully closed, open the throttle completely. The choke plateshould open about 1/4” (.0250”). This allows air into the engine, if the engine should flood. This will allow the engine tostart. If the choke plate does not open in the specified amount, carefully bend the lever installed on the throttle shaft inStep 4, until the required opening is obtained. De-choke is preset on automotive applications.13. Remount the carburetor on the vehicle.14. Connect the long wire from the kit to the positive choke cap terminal marked ( ). Connect the other end of the wire to afused ignition activated 12V source. The choke cap should only get voltage when the engine is running. Check yourvoltage source with a voltmeter.WARNING: The distributor side of the coil is not a 12V source. Connecting the choke cap to the ignition coil willresult in unacceptable choke operation and possible engine misfiring resulting to possible enginedamage. Do not connect the choke wire to the coil!15. Connect the vacuum hose supplied in the kit to the fitting on the bottom of the choke housing. Using the plastic vacuumtee from the kit, splice into any full manifold vacuum line such as the vacuum line to the air cleaner. Connect the vacuumhose from the choke housing to the plastic tee, or connect the vacuum hose from the choke housing to an unused vacuumport on the intake manifold.16. Start the engine and allow the engine to reach operating temperature. On automotive applications, manually advance thethrottle to just off idle. Push the fast idle cam up so that the fast idle screw is on the top step of the cam. This speedshould be set to manufacturer’s specifications (usually 1600 rpm). This screw should be adjusted with the engine off. Holdthe throttle in the wide-open position to expose the fast idle screw below the choke housing. Use a small open-end wrenchfor adjustment. Start the engine and recheck idle speed.17. Rotating the choke cap can control the choke operation. If the choke comes off too soon, rotate the cap counter-clockwiseone notch at a time until the choke operation is satisfactory. Reverse the procedure if the choke comes off too late. Afteradjustment, start the engine and watch to be sure the choke plate opens fully. Poor fuel economy, a fast idle speed(automotive applications), and possible engine damage may result from this.WARNING! With the engine running, the external vacuum source draws fresh air into the choke housing, whichprevents the heating element in the choke housing from overheating. In most cases, an ignition activatedvoltage source is also activated when the key is in the ”ON” or “ACC” position. Choke cap damage canresult due to overheating if the key is left in the “ON” or “ACC” position for a prolonged period of timewithout the engine running.4

FOR LIST #4412 CARBURETOR1.Remove the three (3) screws holding the choke assembly to the main body, and remove the choke housing. Remove thefastener clip from the choke rod and save the fastener clip. Remove the manual choke backing plate.2.Remove the two (2) choke plate screws on models with plates retained with screws and remove the choke plate. On pushin style plates with no screws, use a flat thin blade tool or screwdriver to spread the choke shaft at the center of the detentand pull straight up on the choke plate to remove. Retain all parts.3.Slide the choke shaft out until the choke rod is free of the choke lever. Remove the choke rod by working the rod upwarduntil it is clears the plastic slider and the air horn.4.Using the new choke rod from the kit, install the choke rod form the top of the carburetor through the air horn and theplastic slider. Slide the choke shaft back in making sure the end of the choke rod is in the hole of the choke lever.Replace the choke plate with the dimpled tabs down. The tabs rest against the top of the choke shaft. Securely fastenwith the two screws previously removed.5.Remove the screw holding the fast idle lever, and remove the fast idle lever. Using the new fast idle screw and fast idlelever provided in kit 45-465, install the fast idle screw in to the fast idle lever. Install the assembly onto the throttle shaft.Use the retaining screw from the original carburetor to fasten the lever on the shaft.6.Remove the timed spark hose from the vehicle and install the hose on the carburetor. The spark hose must be installedbefore mounting the choke housing.7.Using the three-(3) long screws provided in the kit, insert the screws in the new choke housing. Install the choke housingspacers on the ends of the screws.8.Lower the assembly onto the main body assuring that the choke rod goes into the housing lever and under the fast idlecam. Tighten the three screws. Install the fastener clip retained in step 1 in the choke rod.9.Check that the red fast idle cam is above the choke rod and that the fastener clip secures the choke lever.10. Operate the choke plate by moving the bi-metal pick up pin. The choke plate should move freely. If the choke plate doesnot move freely, check the choke linkage to make sure there is no binding. Check that the fast idle screw is in alignmentwith the red cam on the back of the choke housing. Follow steps 7-17 of the previous section.5

must pass. Choke inserts are available in a complete range of sizes, generally identified by choke diameter stated in 64ths of an inch; for example, a "32 bean" is equivalent to a /2-in. choke diameter. The adjustable choke typically does not allow an accurate choke size due to the complex geometry of the flow around the choke bean.

Important: If your gun is equipped with choke tubes, do not use a brass brush to clean the barrels without having a choke tube installed. Barrels that utilize choke tubes must also have the choke tubes removed to clean and oil the threads inside the barrel and the choke tubes themselves. This will protect the threads and prevent dirt build
