4. On the Tree Settings page, under “Manager your tree”, click “Export Tree”5. After a moment, this section will change from“Export Tree” to “Download Your GEDCOM file”.When the button appears, click on it.6. Depending upon the browser, you can verify thatthe download was accomplished by looking for oneof these browser-download indicators. B. Importing the GEDCOM intoRootsMagic1. Open RootsMagic.2. It is best to import your file into a newfile. If another file is open, click “File” andchoose “Close”.3. If no database is currently open,importing a GEDCOM will automaticallycreate a new RootsMagic database foryou.4. Click on the “File” menu and choose“Import”.5. On the “Import File” window, select theoption, “GEDCOM (Other programs)”.6. If you do not knowwhere the file is, click“Search for files”.RootsMagic will look forall of your .ged files.Choose the file you wantfrom the list.If you know where the fileis stored on yourcomputer, click “I knowwhere the file is”.6.7. 8. Maneuver to where the file is stored. The file name will end with .ged.In this example, the file is in the download folder.Click the“Download”folder.GEDCOM filesin that folderwill appear inthe rightpanel.9. Click on thefile.10. Click“Open” to openthe file.11. Enter the file name you want to give to this file. The name can match the GEDCOM filename or it can be completely different. Do NOT give it the same name as any otherRootsMagic database on your computer.12. Under “Options for thisfile” you can select the“Date format”, “Number todisplay after name”, andseveral other options.These options can bemodified after the file iscreated by going to Tools File Options.13. 14. You can leave this window “as is” or change the option and fill in the blanks as desired.NOTE: You may find it helpful todocument where the informationcame from.
