It's Time to Get Tech Savvyby Christopher CozartFacebook. Twitter. LinkedIn. YouTube. iPad.Apple. Are these words ringing a bell in yourhead? If they're not, chances are you're not techsavvy. In order to succeed in the fast-paced worldthat we live in today, you need to not only knowhow to use technology but also be able to apply itin your personal and professional life.Back in the late 1990s and early 2000s, everycompany was trying to leverage the power of theInternet. Now every company is trying to leveragethe power of social media and mobile technology. However, it should not stop there. In fact, if you dostop there, you'll be giving up several alternativetechnologies that could help you enhance yourmembership base.Lincoln Financial has taken critical steps toimprove and enhance its presence on the weband in the mobile space. One of the company'songoing major projects is to create a new ITsystem that will house all of the company'sinternal and external websites. The system willallow Lincoln to revitalize its web presence.Lincoln Financial's wholesaler platform andretail distribution websites will be transformedso that both will be on one site. Wholesalers andfinancial advisors will be able to access one siteto see all of the business transactions they dofor the company. It will also allow the company'sindividual lines of business to centralize itsrecordkeeping systems to allow for smoothertransactions. For example, the IT system willallow Lincoln Financial's Defined Contributionretirement business to have one centralizedrecordkeeping system for its clients to conductbusiness. The company has also entered the2 ROSTRUMn NOVEMber 2011mobile space by creating “apps” for its wholesalersand financial advisors. The apps help wholesalersand financial advisors explain some of Lincoln'slife insurance and annuity products that are oftendifficult to explain to prospective clients.By leveraging social media and mobiletechnology, the NFL can reach and connectwith many potential candidates for the league.Facebook and Twitter could be used as onlinesocial media campaigns for the league. Nothingattracts teenagers more today than incentivesthat allow them to use their mobile devices orcomputers to sign up for prizes. YouTube could beused to post videos about the league includingpast debates and champions.Lincoln Financial supports the NFL's decisionto provide additional benefits and informationto its current and prospective members. To havethe opportunity to participate in the NFL is aninvaluable experience for young people to beable to articulate their opinions and thoughts. Aninteractive website is only one avenue to increaseparticipation. But remember, if you want to betech savvy in the world today, you have to be ableto leverage multiple technologies, social media, and mobile technologies to not only be currentbut also reach your membership base. After all, your members are probably tech savvy, and usingFacebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Wouldn't youlike to reach your members while they chat onFacebook? nChristopher Cozart is a Web Analytics Specialist at Lincoln Financial Group.
