This includes the Church, classrooms,laboratories, offices, and communal areas such as stairs, corridors andlandings, ensuring all areas and domestic facilities are clean and ready foruse on a daily basis.Reporting jointly to the Property Manager and the Business Manager, theCleaning Manager ensures that high standards of cleanliness are deliveredat all times. This service will operate all year round, although it isanticipated that holidays will be quieter than term times due to theabsence of Academic Staff and Students.Please note that this is a working position that will actually involve about20 hours per week of actual cleaning in addition to the managerial andquality control responsibilities that come with the role and, as such, thisposition will also be subject to the Position Description for CollegeCleaner at the College. The Position Description for College Cleaner isattached to the end of this document.

Main Duties Co‐ordinate, direct and monitor the cleaning staff in their duties of dusting,sweeping, mopping and vacuuming, cleaning walls, floors, furniture andfittings by use of manual and electrically powered tools and equipment.Effective instruction and management of Cleaning staff to ensure deliveryof the operation covering all required areas of the College on a daily basis.Regular visits to buildings across our site to monitor standards ofcleanliness, to establish and implement ways to improve and meet theevolving needs of the College.Plan and deliver schedules for more specific needs such as a deep cleantimetable fully utilising quieter periods and provision for special eventssuch as parent teacher interviews and arts nights.Recruit (regular interview and selection processes supported by theBusiness Manager), induct and train new staff in accordance with schoolprocesses relating to child protection.Provide training to new staff in relation to expected standards and qualityof general cleaning, and Health and Safety requirements, particularlyregarding the operation of equipment, manual handling and Work Healthand Safety.Produce accurate and well planned Health and Safety risk assessmentsdocumenting safe systems of work for use throughout the College by allCleaning and Laundry staff.Set and monitor appropriate performance objectives and standards forstaff, conducting probation review and appraisals and dealing with staffdiscipline issues appropriately, through timely interviews and investigation,referring to the College Business Manager for support.Monitor working time, working with the Business Manager to ensure thatovertime and casual- worker timesheets are completed correctly, meetingpayroll deadlines.Monitor and manage staff absence and turnover, ensuring flexible covercan be arranged at short notice, and promoting good staff attendance at alltimes through appropriate absence management techniques including homevisits, return‐to‐work meetings and appropriate interviewing andinvestigation of absence issues.Maintain supplies of cleaning materials and equipment, keeping check ofwhat will be required and placing orders to maintain stock levels.In liaison with others including the Business Manager and suppliers, testnew products and equipment and obtain best value on purchases.Ensure facilities such as toilets and bathrooms are cleaned and checked sothat they are maintained to a high standard and equipped with appropriatetoiletries and sanitary products.Liaise with the Property department reporting any defects in a timelymanner and advising on adopting building materials which will benefit thecleaning regime.Oversee the servicing and maintenance of cleaning and laundry equipment.Ensure staff maintain equipment that is clean and fit for purpose, e.g.cloths, dusters and mop heads, arranging for replacements as needed.Manage, and seek out improved solutions for, any domestic services needsthat may arise, such as dry cleaning, or carpet and curtain cleaning.Understand the needs of, and build excellent relationships with Collegepersonnel including the Business Manager, Property Manager, teaching staff,Heads of School and administrative staff, promoting an attractive College.

Educated to secondary level. Good basic standard of literacy and numeracy in order to supportcommunication in a diverse environment, and understanding of time, attendanceand budget figures. Certificates, qualification or training in relevant areas of Work Health and Safetyincluding general risk assessments, manual handling and first aid – would beadvantageous. A cleaner may be responsible for any or all of the following tasks. Tasks may also changethroughout a cleaner’s employment.Essential Position FunctionsNote: This is not an all-inclusive list. Additional duties may be assigned. Clean Restrooms and disinfects sinks, countertops, toilets, mirrors, floors, etc. Replenish bathroomsupplies. Polish metalwork, such as fixtures and fittings. Sweep, mop and vacuum floors. Other floor work may be required such as: scrubbing, waxing andpolishing floors. Break rooms / Kitchenettes: Clean and disinfect sinks, countertops, tables, chairs, refrigerators, etc.Replenish break room supplies. Leave appropriate hand towels for staff to replenish.
