The Feature-Function-Benefit SPACCED ApproachMost customer needs will fit into one of seven nienceEconomyDurabilityWhen you ask questions during the needs assessment, be sure to note which of these benefitcategories seems to be most important to the customer, which is second most important, which is least important, and so on.If your customer seems to be most interested in Safety, Comfort and Economy, for example, focus on those three. They will be your best opportunities to connect the customer withthe vehicle.Making Connections: Use the Feature-Function-Benefit approach to make the connectionbetween the customer’s needs and the features of the vehicle. For every feature you decide toshow the customer, point out the feature itself (what it is), its function (what it does or how itworks) and its benefit (what it does for the customer).Sometimes a single feature can have a lot of different benefits for a customer. This is why youdo a needs assessment. You don’t want to waste the customer’s time on benefits that won’tinterest them. You want to stick to the ones that match the customer’s needs.Facts Tell, But Stories Sell: Features come to life when you describe them with a story.Stories help build meaningful connections between a vehicle’s features and your customer, sotell them as often as possible during your presentation and demonstration. There are severaltypes of stories: he “who”:TStories of personal experience with the feature—events that happened to you, a family member,a friend, or another customer The “why”:Choices that Hyundai designers and engineers made in the development of the vehicle he “how”:THow the vehicle is built nalogies:AComparisons to non-automotive examples that make complicated technologies relate to ordinaryobjects and events Hyundai Motor America — 07-30-15

The best stories:Are briefAre relevant to the customerHave a clear pointYou should make it a habit to tell stories during your walkaround and during the test drive. Andtell them when you present any Hyundai vehicle—not just Tucson!Stories can give customers logical explanations for what they see in front of them and theygive customers stories to tell others. That’s part of the fun of having a new car—and it’s part ofthe fun of selling a new car!Tell a Story: Throughout the following pages, look for shaded boxes like this one, withstories and tips that will help you bring features to life and make the connection betweenthe Tucson and your customer. Hyundai Motor America — 07-30-15

The 5-Point WalkaroundIt’s important to have a structure for a walkaround—it keeps your presentation efficient andfocused and helps your customer remember the information you provide.Conducting a product presentation in this order allows you to put the customer in the frontpassenger seat so that you can drive off for the test drive:HoodDriver’s SideFront PassengerSeatRear PassengerSeatCargo Area Hyundai Motor America — 07-30-15

Tucson WalkaroundPosition 1: HOODFeature andAvailabilityAerodynamicFluidicSculpture 2.0StylingFunctionExterior design elements like the lip at thebottom of the front bumper, the curvature ofthe A-pillar, and the garnish on the side ofthe rear spoiler combine to give the Tucson adrag coefficient of only 0.33.The lower the drag coefficient, the easiera vehicle can slip through the air pushingagainst it. Tucson has one of the lowest dragcoefficients in its segment.SPACCED BenefitCOMFORT: Less dragmeans less wind noiseon the inside, for a morecomfortable interiorenvironment.PERFORMANCE: Lesspower needed to propel thevehicle through the wind.ECONOMY: Less powermeans less fuel is needed topropel the vehicle.Tell a Story: One way to demonstrate the advantages of a low drag coefficient to a customeris with a paper airplane. Make one with a sleek, tapered nose and let your customer launchit. When the nose is tapered and sleek, the plane flies through the air. Then, fold or crumplethe nose and repeat the demonstration. When the plane is not as aerodynamic, it drops tothe ground.Projectorheadlightswith LEDaccents(SE)Halogen bulbs project light through a speciallens instead of reflecting it from a mirrorinstalled behind the headlight.LED accent lights provide additional lighting.SAFETY: Projectorheadlights create stronger, more focused light thanconventional reflectorheadlights, for a better viewof the road ahead.APPEARANCE: LED accentsadd a contemporary, upscale look to the Tucson.SAFETY: Makes Tucsonvisible to other drivers, evenduring daylight hours.Running lights are always on when theengine is running.LED DaytimeRunningRunning lights use LEDs (light-emittingLightsdiodes) instead of more traditional bulbs.(SE withPopularEquipmentPackage, Eco,Sport, Limited) Hyundai Motor America — 07-30-15APPEARANCE: Bulb sizeand placement give the frontend of the vehicle a highend, contemporary look.ECONOMY: LEDs requireless power to operate thantraditional bulbs.

Feature LED lowbeamHeadlights(Limited)FunctionSensors monitor light levels and turn theheadlights on automatically.LEDs illuminate the road better than halogenheadlights—and they draw less power,too—22 watts per side versus 55 for aconventional halogen bulb.High-Intensity-Discharge lamps make lightthrough an electric arc, rather than a burningfilament. Compared to a traditional tungstenfilament bulb, they’re able to make morevisible light for every unit of electric powerthey consume.HIDHeadlightswith DynamicBending LightDynamic Bending Light rotates the projector(Limited withas the driver steers.UltimatePackage)ExteriorcolorsSix colors are new for 2016: Chromium Silver Metallic Coliseum Grey Metallic Ruby Wine Metallic Mojave Sand Pearl Sedona Sunset Pearl Caribbean Blue MetallicSPACCED BenefitSAFETY: The driver alwayshas a bright view of the roadahead—and other motoristscan see the Tucson as well.CONVENIENCE: The driverdoesn’t need to determinewhen it’s time to turn on theheadlights.SAFETY: Better visibilityin driving conditionsthat require low-beamheadlights.ECONOMY: By drawingless power, LED headlightsimprove fuel economy.ECONOMY: HID bulbs aremore efficient.SAFETY: Dynamic BendingLight illuminates corners forsafer nighttime driving.APPEARANCE: The widerange of exterior colorsgives customers a choice topersonalize the exterior oftheir Tucson.Tell a Story: The exterior colors for Tucson were inspired by art, nature, fashion, interiordesign and other sources. Ruby Wine, for example, was inspired by the rich reds ofcontemporary runway models’ lipstick, while Caribbean Blue was drawn from the classic hueof the sea. Hyundai Motor America — 07-30-15

Feature rd)FunctionPremium system usually found on moreexpensive vehicles.Very precisely controls when the intake andexhaust valves open and close.ContinuouslyVariableValve Timing(CVVT)(Standard)2.0-literGDI DOHC16-valveinline fourcylinderengine(SE)1.6-literturbochargedGDI DOHC16-valveinline fourcylinderengine(Eco, Sport,Limited) Hyundai Motor America — 07-30-15Tucson’s engine “breathes” differentlydepending on operating conditions.Compare to trained athlete: During a marathon: needs to breathe in andexhale more oxygen and keep it up over along time During a sprint: needs maximum oxygenfor a short period Walking: needs less, in a steady supply Standing still: needs very littleUnlike a traditional fuel injection system, gasoline direct injection (GDI) places thefuel injector inside the combustion chamberof each cylinder, instead of in the intakerunners. This means that each cylindergets precisely the amount of fuel it needs, depending on whether the driver is idling, accelerating, coasting or braking.SPACCED BenefitECONOMY: Efficient useof fuel and better fueleconomy, without thepremium price.PERFORMANCE: Betterperformance and cleanerexhaust emissions becausemore of the air/fuel mixtureis burned.PERFORMANCE: Betteroff-the-line and passingacceleration.ECONOMY: More efficientoperation, especially whilecruising, leads to excellentfuel economy, which helpsto reduce the cost ofownership.ECONOMY: Efficiency.PERFORMANCE: Betterperformance and drivability.Delivers 164hp @ 6,200 rpm and 151 lb.-ft. oftorque @ 4,000 rpm.More compact single-scroll turbochargerresults in mass reduction. The peak torque rating for most engines is ata specific engine speed. The Gamma enginehas a flat torque curve. Its peak torque, 195lb.-ft., is available from 1,500 to 4,500 rpm, awide range of engine speeds.ECONOMY: Weight is theenemy of fuel economy;reduced mass equalsimproved mileage.PERFORMANCE: Deliversthe fun and responsivenessof a manual transmissionwithout having to operate aclutch pedal.

Feature HIFTRONIC manual shiftmodeFunctionShifts gears effortlessly in fully automaticmode for best fuel economy, or driver canshift manually when desired.Innovative design is tuned for efficiency andfeatures seven gears for optimum drivability.Seven-speedEcoShift dual-clutchtransmissionwithSHIFTRONIC manual shiftmodeAll-WheelDrive withActiveCorneringControl(AWD models)Offers the efficiency of a manualtransmission with the ease of an automatic. The dual clutches transfer shifts back andforth without any interruption in drive powerdelivery.A dual clutch system is lighter and moreefficient than a traditional automatictransmission.Active Cornering Control can distribute theengine’s torque from left to right as well asfrom front to rear, to make sure the wheelthat has the most grip gets the most power.Active Cornering Control also appliesbraking to the inside rear wheel to improvecornering performance.SPACCED BenefitECONOMY: Fully automaticmode shifts for optimal fuelefficiency.PERFORMANCE: Deliversthe fun and responsivenessof a manual transmissionwithout having to operate aclutch pedal.ECONOMY andPERFORMANCE: Thisautomated manualtransmission enables adirect connection to theengine—there’s no torqueconverter—for outstandingeconomy and uninterruptedpower transfer. Gives youthe best of all worlds—improved fuel economy andimproved acceleration.SAFETY: Excellenttraction in all slippery roadconditions.PERFORMANCE: Excellenthandling in dry roadconditions.Tell a Story: Use a non-automotive example to bring a technical feature to life. For instance,Active Cornering Control can be compared to paddling a canoe. Imagine the boat is movingforward and you drag the paddle blade in the water at the left rear of the boat as your partnerpaddles forward on the right side of the boat. The front of the boat will immediately turnleft. Active Cornering Control does a similar thing—it applies braking force to the inside rearwheel and power to the outside rear wheel, to improve cornering. Hyundai Motor America — 07-30-15

Position 2: DRIVER’S SIDEFeature andAvailability19-inch alloywheels(Sport andLimited)FunctionAluminum is lighter than steel, so alloywheels reduce the unsprung weight of thevehicle—the amount of weight that is belowthe suspension’s coil springs. The lowerthe unsprung weight, the more smooth andstable the ride.SPACCED BenefitCONVENIENCE: The rideis smoother and morecomfortable with lessunsprung weight.PERFORMANCE: The caris more stable and thehandling more responsive.Tell a Story: Have your customer run a hand over a wheel opening of the Tucson, as youpoint out that they’re not perfectly round. They’re asymmetrical—slightly raised toward therear, to mimic the look of a cat ready to pounce. This small design detail contributes to themuscular, aggressive look of the Tucson.Motordriven powersteering(MDPS)Low-friction ball joint, increased U-jointstrength, optimized steering gear toothstructure and change of gear housing typefrom stamped steel tube to fully integrated,one-piece aluminum combine to improve theMDPS system.ReengineeredfrontsuspensionFour-point bushing mounts improve comfortand reduce road noise. Increased strutrod diameter improves handling. Hydraulicrebound bump stop improves comfort overspeed bumps.Side mirrorsHeated on all models.PERFORMANCE: Moreresponsive steering.COMFORT: Frictionreduction results in amore enjoyable drivingexperience.COMFORT: Reduced roadnoise, smoother ride overspeed bumps.PERFORMANCE: Betterhandling.CONVENIENCE: Owners incolder climates don’t haveto scrape ice and snow offmanually.SAFETY: Fog is quicklyremoved for better visibility.Blind-spotmirror(SE and Eco)LED turnsignalindicators(Eco, Sportand Limited) Hyundai Motor America — 07-30-15Provides wider view of lane adjacent todriver, to reduce the driver’s blind spot.SAFETY: Reduces likelihoodof a driver not seeing avehicle in the adjacent lane.LED arrow on side mirror flashes when turnsignal is activated.SAFETY: Makes the Tucsonvisible to other drivers, especially in a lane-changesituation.

Feature andAvailabilityFunctionSPACCED BenefitDoor handlelatch designNew design latch mechanism reducesfriction, reduces pull force and increasesdamping force.COMFORT: Doors openmore easily and close with asolid, premium sound.Illuminatedfront doorhandles(Sport & Ltd)Door handles illuminate when key is nearby.CONVENIENCE: Easier tosee and enter the vehicle.Tell a Story: Add a personal touch to your descriptions of features, functions and benefits. For example, Tucson’s illuminated front door handles are like someone leaving the frontporch light on for you when you get home late at night. That’s why they’re also called“welcome lights.”Poweradjustabledriver’s seat(SE withPopularEquipmentPackage, Eco,Sport, Limited)Heated seats(Sport andLimited)Ventilatedleather frontseats(Limited withUltimate Pkg)Adjusts forward and aft; seatback angle foreand aft; front of seat cushion upward anddownward; rear of seat cushion upward anddownward; lumbar support increase anddecreaseCOMFORT: Allows driversof almost any age or size tobe comfortable behind thewheel of a Tucson.Four settings: off, low, medium and highCOMFORT: Seats canbe heated to a greater orlesser degree, or not atall, depending on cabintemperature and driverpreferences.Cool the front seats by blowing air throughsmall vent holes on the surface of the seatcushions and seatbacks.COMFORT: Separatecontrols allow driver andfront passenger to adjustseat ventilation to theirpersonal preferences.Tell a Story: The interior of the Tucsonwas designed here in the United States, atthe Hyundai Design & Engineering Centerin Irvine, California. The shapes of theinstrument panel were inspired by the iconicTerminal 5 at Kennedy International Airportin New York. Terminal 5 was designed bylegendary architect Eero Saarinen (who alsodesigned the famed Gateway Arch in St.Louis). Saarinen himself was inspired by theimage of a bird in flight. The result? A fresh, contemporary look that emphasizes thespaciousness of the Tucson’s interior. Hyundai Motor America — 07-30-15

At speeds above approximately43 mph, if the system detects the vehicle isdrifting from its lane without the turn signalbeing engaged, it activates an audible toneand a warning light on the instrument panel.SAFETY: Alerts the driver ifthe car begins to drift acrossthe lane without using theturn signal.System uses both cameras and radarsensors.AutomaticEmergencyBraking withPedestrianDetection 5(Limited withUltimatePackage)If a collision is imminent and the driver doesnot react, the system deploys AutomaticEmergency Braking. If the vehicle is travelingbetween 5 and 50 mph, the system canapply full brake force stopping power, givingdrivers an added element of safety andconfidence. At speeds above 50 mph, the AEB systemonly initiates partial braking. This is toprevent unintended full braking to a stop inthe middle of the highway. Hyundai Motor America — 07-30-15SAFETY: Can brake theTucson automaticallywhen the system detectsan imminent collision withanother vehicle, an object ora pedestrian.
