Transmissions Suspension 30 31The 3 Series Coupe suspension: Always in touch with the road andshields you when the road plays rough.Six gears are standard.The BMW 3 Series Coupe comes with your choice of two 6-speedtransmissions. The addition of a sixth forward gear gives you sportieracceleration, smoother cruising and better fuel efficiency. The gearratios are spaced closer together than with a 5-speed, so the transmission has the right ratio for virtually every situation.A silky-smooth, performance-oriented 6-speed manual transmission isstandard. Or choose the 6-speed STEPTRONIC automatic, which offersAdaptive Transmission Control that ª learnsº your driving style and shiftsaccordingly, and a Sport mode for more dynamic shifts. You can alsochange gears manually: simply select STEPTRONIC mode, then tap thegear lever back to shift up, or forward to shift down, for a more sportingdriving experience. The 3 Series Coupe, when equipped with STEPTRONICautomatic transmission and Sport Package or M Sport Package, alsocomes with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.One of the major ingredients in a BMW' s uncommonly agile handlingis the suspension.
