PRAXIS SUBJECT ASSESSMENTS (formerly Praxis II) EXAM INFORMATION:TESTING YEAR 2020-2021All MSU Billings undergraduate, graduate and post-baccalaureate education teacher licensure and endorsementcandidates must take Praxis Subject Assessments (formerly Praxis II) content exam(s):Elementary Broadfield Majors REQUIRED:# 5018 Elementary Education: Content Knowledge REQUIRED:Content Exam in the Teaching Minor if applicable, refer to test list on page 4 of this handoutK-12 and Secondary Majors REQUIRED: Content Exam in the Teaching Major, refer to test list on page 4 of this handout REQUIRED: Content Exam in the Teaching Minor, refer to test list on page 4 of this handout Broadfield Science Majors will take the General Science test Broadfield Social Studies Endorsement requires both the History and Government exams Political Science teaching major or teaching minor requires the Government examTeaching Minors REQUIRED:Content Exam in the Teaching Minor, refer to test list on page 4 of this handoutSchool Counselor REQUIRED:#5421 Professional School Counselor Exam – minimum required score 156** Exam is requirement of the Capstone class - effective January 2014 – register to meet course deadlines **All candidates are required to achieve a score on the required Praxis Subject Assessments exam(s) in order todemonstrate subject area knowledge by earning a qualifying score on the Montana Assessment of ContentKnowledge Verification to be recommended for licensure. Refer to OPI letter on Page 5.ALL candidates, initial licensure candidates and those adding endorsements to an existing license, shouldregister and take Praxis Subject Assessments tests the semester prior to student teaching.** Montana qualifying Praxis exam scores for all teaching majors and minors in your completed program arerequired before a licensure recommendation can be made to any state. **Pay close attention to the different testing requirements for each group. ETS now offers a Test at Home option for some required tests –When using this option please be aware of following:If you test in Montana, a copy of your scores will automatically be sent to the Montana Office of Public Instruction.Candidates testing outside Montana should add Montana Office of Public Instruction as a score recipient, asCandidates can add score recipients for free until three days after testing by contacting Praxis Customer ServiceConfirm equipment and environment requirements before registeringRegistration is a two-step process, starting with the test taker’s ETS account, then through their ProctorU accountChanging a date and/or time of an at home test can be done through the candidate’s ProctorU accountCancelling an at home test is done through Praxis Customer ServiceETS created a new video to support the test taker when getting started with at home testing. The video provides apreview of the entire testing from home process. Attending Institution and Designated Score Recipient MSU-Billings’ attending institution and score recipient code is: RA4298If you test in Montana, your score report will be sent automatically to the Montana Office of Public Instruction.If you test outside of Montana, select the Montana Office of Public Instruction, state code R8653 as a scorerecipient when you register or on an additional score report request.Access the code link on the ETS Praxis Subject Assessment exam registration webpage if additional codes areneeded.Carefully consider the process of designating score recipients at the time of registration. You are allowed fourfree score recipients as part of your initial registration. You cannot "bank" any score reports not sent. Afterregistration, additional score reports are 50 each.Beginning October 6, 2017, additional score reports will be available online in your Praxis account for 10years from the score report date. After 10 years, your score report will no longer be available. Werecommend saving a copy of your score report for future reference.Praxis Test Requirements for Program Completion Both elementary and secondary teacher candidates with a major(s) and minor(s) in an endorsablesubject/content area listed on the last page of this handout should register and take Praxis SubjectAssessments tests the semester prior to student teaching.The link to the Praxis Series Bulletin contains specific information about the exam and is located on the ETSWeb site at www.ets.org/praxis in the “About the Test” link. Once at the Praxis home page you can obtain awealth of information. Be sure to review the Study Companions for each exam found in the PreparationMaterials.Disability or Health-related Needs Accommodations Test takers requesting any accommodations must submit their requests and have their accommodationsapproved by ETS Disability Services before their test can be scheduled. Submit your request as early as possible,especially if you are requesting an alternate test format. Documentation review takes approximately six weeksonce your request and complete paperwork have been received. If you must submit additional documentation,it can be another six weeks from the time the new documentation is received until the review is complete.When you have been approved, ETS will email instructions to you on how to register for the Praxis test. What is the Praxis test?The Praxis tests measure teacher candidates’ knowledge and skills. The tests are used for licensing and certificationprocesses. The Praxis tests are used by most state education agencies in the United States to make decisionsregarding the licensing of new educators. Each state and licensing organization determines its own certification andPraxis passing score requirements.What types of exams are they?Praxis Subject Assessments feature selected-response and essay questions that measure the content and pedagogicalknowledge necessary for a beginning teacher. For details on the types of questions you'll encounter on a specific test,please visit the http://www.ets.org/praxis/prepare/materials/ page, select your test from the dropdown menu, and clickon the Study Companion.How much are the testing fees?The Praxis test fees vary but range from 120 to 160. There are no additional fees for the Test at Home option.Receiving score reports and why to save your score report?Score reports are available via your online account. You will receive an email when your score report has been posted.The reporting dates vary based on the type of test you take, selected-response only, constructed response only, orcombination of both. Score reporting for the Praxis tests at home differs from score reporting for tests taken at a testcenter. Scores are valid for 10 years. Beginning October 6, 2017, additional online scores are downloadable for 10 yearsfrom the score reporting date. After 10 years, your score report will no longer be available. Additional score reports cost 50 per score recipient and are nonrefundable. We recommend saving a copy/print a copy of your score report for futurereference. ** You will need this for licensure and employment. MSUB will not provide copies of Praxis Score Reports tocandidates. **What is the Montana required Praxis score?For those candidates completing a Montana Educator Preparation Program, a score that qualifies the candidate seekinglicensure to meet or exceed the minimum required score on the three prong Montana Assessment of Content Knowledge(MACK) Verification as described on Page 4 of this handout. The Montana score ranges for the Praxis SubjectAssessments for all teaching majors and teaching minors are found on the attached table on Page 5-6.Can I retake the exam?Yes, any Praxis exam can be retaken, but “parts” of the exam cannot be retaken. Teacher candidates completing an accredited Educator Preparation Provider (EPP) program in Montanamust meet the minimum content knowledge requirements described below to be recommended forlicensure/endorsement. This policy is the result of ongoing dialogue and consensus between the MontanaOffice of Public Instruction (OPI) and Montana EPPs. This practice ensures consistency across stateprograms. Montana Board of Public Education accredited schools must employ teachers with an activeMontana license and assign those teachers to teach classes in their endorsed subject area(s).Montana Assessment of Content Knowledge VerificationTeacher candidates must earn at least 7 points on the Montana Assessment of Content Knowledge prior torecommendation for licens ure/endorsement by an accredited Montana EPP. The possible range for theContent Knowledge Score (CKS) is 0-10.
