A single system approved by the NHSfor use in hospitals and healthcare settingsacross the UK.The LSI National Credentialing Register is theculmination of extensive work between the majorhealthcare trade associations (ABHI; ABPI; AXREM;BAREMA; BDIA; BHTA; BIVDA; MEDILINK UK), NHSEngland and the Academy for Healthcare Science.Now, working with Medical Industry Ltd, thisprovides firstly, a not-for-profit registration systemthat has patient and public safety at its heart andsecondly, a potential solution to the issue ofmultiple providers of credentialing systems whichcreates confusion and duplication and is costly tothe healthcare industry and ultimately, as aconsequence, the NHS.The LSI National Credentialing Register powered byMIA will have many positive benefits for the NHS,private hospitals, healthcare facilities, employersand industry including:An enhanced credentialing system under the regulatoryframework of the Academy for Healthcare Science,accredited by the Professional Standards Authority. What is the MIAappointment system?A credentialing and appointmentsystem, free for NHS providersThe appointment system allows approved staff tocheck the credentials of visiting industry staff toensure they are properly qualified to engage withhealthcare professionals, and enter clinical areaswithin a hospital. It can also capture representativemovements and activities in hospitals, and store theappointment records for future reporting.To qualify for a photo-ID card, company representativesmust meet the criteria set by the Life Science Industry incollaboration with the NHS and the Academy for HealthcareScience. What does this mean for existing cardholders?Members should continue to use their existing MIA cardas they have always done. When existing cards expire wewill issue members with new LSI National CredentialingRegister cards which grant the same level of access tohospitals which they have always enjoyed.Members will automatically be enrolled onto the LSINational Credentialing Register at tier X. This is atransitional tier which demonstrates they are workingtowards full registration.They will have until 30th July 2020 to meet the trainingtier requirements.Once they have completed the required LSI NationalCredentialing Register training they will be able to easilysubmit this for approval via the Medical Industry Ltdwebsite. LSI National Credentialing Register tiersThe training requirements for each tier of the LSI National Credentialing Register are set out below.Companies will need to decide which tier employees will be registered at, as this determines which areas ofa hospital members will be able to access.
