President’s Messageto hold an event the week after Thanksgiving(the 16th and 17th of October.) The farmshort message andis close to Pakenham and offers amazinghopefully to the point, opportunities for the OVLR community.as pressure of workThere is space for camping and direct accessagain conscripts my time.to trails either on their 400 acre farm or withWe had a great Social at theconnections to the Lanark TransmissionPrescott and the conversationthat many of us have been on. More detailsturned to some of the strangeto follow. The club has also offered tothings that members of theassist, volunteers requested, to help with aClub have, in addition to therefreshment tent at the Lanark Therapeuticusual collection of running andRides event, also at Andrew and Dom’snon-running Land Rovers. So,Farm, the week-end before, Thanksgiving.we would like to hear from theThe executive has also agreed to give a smallmembers and see how manydonation to the Lanark Therapeutic Ridebackhoes (there were fourAssociation, as a gesture for using the farmPresident Peter McGougharound the Social table), largefor our weekend. I’m ratherhoping for the odd B-29 (I’m not allowed to expectAs part of the recce the Executive were treated toa Blenheim Bomber as it creates an untoward crosssome off roading in the manner that they would likefertilization of clubs to be avoided at all costs).to become accustomed to. Frank Ashworth treated usI bet we can’t even imagine what lurks under tarpsthe LR3 comfort and capability as we followed someand sheds under the care and preservation of thetrails out of Andrew’s place only to stop when it wasconcerned citizens of the OVLR. Your letters andgetting a bit too dark for single vehicle off roading.photos are welcomed. The partridge leading us out of the trails and awayfrom her nest was fun to see. Unfortunately, on theThe Executive meeting of the club was held atway home Frank had another adventure with wildlifeAndrew and Dominique Jones’ farm with only awhen a deer ran into the side of his truck. Frank hadsmall hidden agenda. We were scoping out a locationthought he had killed the deer but when Dave and Ifor a Fall event and Andrew and Dom have agreedpassed a little later the deer was looking around, onlydazed. It brought to mind why I drove the RangeRover from Calgary to Saskatoon each week, forclose to two years. I thought I would be killed if Iever hit a big animal while driving my Ford Taurus, scooping it into my lap. At least the slab front ofthe RR would protect me. I was lucky not to hitanything but had many near misses.by peter mcgoughAReason # 197 for driving a Rover.Cheers, Tread Lightly,Petermcgou@msn.comI thought you remembered where the truck was! TDI Conversion - part 3Wiring and Fuel Systemarticle and photos by t. kingWell, I forget where we left off after part 2,but I believe it was after hooking up thetransfer case, transmission and shifters. If you recall, I am mired in the throws of convertinga ‘99 Disco I from a 4.0 V8 with autobox to aDiscovery 200 tdi with manual transmission. The current status is that the heavy stuff is in place, but that the little stuff is in a state of need.I have been working with some info gleaned fromthe web where Britrest swapped a 200 tdi into a 3.0V8 Disco, and also where another group put a 200tdi into a Series. I had a 4.0 V8 so while similar itsnot quite the same, so typically every instruction hasto be vetted for yet another conversion of terms orcolours or whatever.Cable STC 934 from the glow plug relay plugs intoPRC6083 and the black/white wire screws to thebulkhead OK but I don’t have the STC 934, can’tbuy it and can’t find the pinout anywhere, so will have toimprovise at the other end of it (it STC 934), the white/red cable goes to the white/red on the back of theignition (except it is now a brown/red because the V8goes through a solenoid) note: I have two white/redcables to pick from and haven’t found the brown/redyet and both the whites go to the white on theignition (argh have not found the white off theignition or anywhere else for that matter) Not to be discouraged I trundled on Some examples of the instructions I have, withcomments:Hooking up the power to the alternator, starterand glow plug relay is straight forward the watertemperature sensor, oil pressure switch, tachometer andalternator warning light seem to be straight forward asthe colours match. The original battery lead can be reused hmm thank goodness, I think The wire from the glow plug timer to glow plug 4 isthe same small merciesThe colour codings of the looms are identical except this, that, and the other thing as it later goes onabout (vive la difference)Also, using a working 300tdi as an example, thefuel connections between the tank, pump, filter andengine are straight forward, but not intuitive, andtoo complicated for me to recite. You’ll haveto ask or review the end result in order toaccomplish this. The conversion from the V8 fuel systemincludes removing the in-tank fuel pumpfrom action, disabling/overriding the in-linefuel filter over the passenger rear wheel andensuring you can physically put the dieselnozzle in the filler pipe.Next segment: tdi hoses, exhaust woes A/C?Yup looks the same from over here.
