ATTENTION:Instructions, notices and wiring diagrams included in thisinsert supersede those included in main instruction booklet.Part number 46115-VUH (Solenoid Heater Control Valve) has beenreplaced by part number 461171 (Servo Heater Control Valve). Pleasesee illustration below for installation and flow direction. See wiringdiagrams on Pages 3 and 4 of this insert for proper wiring connections.NOTE:A. Wiring harness modification is required to install this valve.Follow the wiring harness modification instructions onPages 5 and 6 of this insert.B. Flow direction follows molded arrow on valve.C. Connection between heater control valve and wiring adaptermay be located in engine bay or passenger compartment. Besure to secure ground ring terminal to chassis ground.oreCerptaHe r PummeFro WatToFrom HeaterControl Valveto Heater CoreHeaterHoseaketnImldoFr anifoMHose ClampsGroundRingTerminalWiring Adapter907173 REV A 5/14/14, PG 1 OF 6

www.vintageair.comImportant Wiring Notice—Please ReadSome Vehicles May Have Had Some or All of Their Radio Interference Capacitors Removed. There Should Be a Capacitor Found At Each of the Following Locations:1. On the positive terminal of the ignition coil.2. If there is a generator, on the armature terminal of the generator.3. If there is a generator, on the battery terminal of the voltage regulator. Most alternators have a capacitor installed internally to eliminate what is called “whining” asthe engine is revved. If whining is heard in the radio, or just to be extra cautious, a radiointerference capacitor can be added to the battery terminal of the alternator. It is also important that the battery lead is in good shape and that the ground leads are notcompromised. There should be a heavy ground from the battery to the engine block, andadditional grounds to the body and chassis. If these precautions are not observed, it is possible for voltage spikes to be present on thebattery leads. These spikes come from ignition systems, charging systems, and fromswitching some of the vehicle’s other systems on and off. Modern computer-operatedequipment can be sensitive to voltage spikes on the power leads, which can cause unexpectedresets, strange behavior, and/or permanent damage.Vintage Air strives to harden our products against these types of electrical noise, but there isa point where a vehicle’s electrical system can be degraded so much that nothing can help.Radio interference capacitors should be available at most auto and truck parts suppliers. Theytypically are cylindrical in shape, a little over an inch long, a little over a half inch in diameter, and they have a single lead coming from one end of the cylinder with a terminal on the end ofthe wire, as well as a mounting clip which is screwed into a good ground on the vehicle. Thespecific value of the capacitance is not too significant in comparison to ignition capacitors thatare matched with the coil to reduce pitting of the points. Care must be taken, when installing the compressor lead, not to short it to ground. The compressor lead must not be connected to a condenser fan or to any otherauxiliary device. Shorting to ground or connecting to a condenser fan or any otherauxiliary device may damage wiring, the compressor relay, and/or cause amalfunction. When installing ground leads on Gen IV systems, the blower control ground and ECUground must be connected directly to the negative battery post. For proper system operation, the heater control valve must be connected to theECU.2907173 REV A 5/14/14, PG 2 OF 6

www.vintageair.comWiring Harness Modification1. IMPORTANT: Disconnect the wiring harness red lead from the positive battery terminal.2. Disconnect the heater control valve relay from the Gen IV wiring harness. NOTE: The heater control valve relay isconnected to (2) red wires and (2) green wires. The compressor relay is connected to (2) blue wires. DoNOT disconnect the compressor relay.3. Using a small flat-blade screwdriver, remove the small green wire from the heater control valve connector by gentlydepressing the retaining tab on the metal terminal and withdrawing the wire from the connector. Repeat the processfor the other (3) wires.4. Using a small flat-blade screwdriver, gently return the retaining tab on the small green wire’s metal terminal to theraised position, as shown below. Repeat the process for the (2) red wires.5. Insert the small green wire into Position “3” of the new (white) heater control valve connector (wire positions aremarked on the connector shell). Push the terminal inward until it locks into place.Wire Positions5907173 REV A 5/14/14, PG 5 OF 6

Push the terminalinward until it locks into place. NOTE: It does not matter which of the two red wires is used for this step.7. Insert the remaining red wire into Position “2” of the new (white) heater control valve connector. Push theterminal inward until it locks into place.Wire Positions8. Using wire cutters, cut the large green wire in two places, as shown. It will not be used with the new heater controlvalve. NOTE: It is not necessary to insulate the ends of the large green wire.9. Connect the heater control valve wiring adapter to the new heater control valve connector on the Gen IV wiringharness.10. Secure the ground ring terminal to chassis ground.GroundRing Terminal11. Reconnect the wiring harness red lead to the positive terminal of the battery.6907173 REV A 5/14/14, PG 6 OF 6
