REPAIR PROCEDURENOTE: The bridges on the windshield side trim may breakwhen removing the trim.2. Slide the trim up to release it from the bottom clip.Slide the trim up to release itfrom the bottom clip. Make sure not to break the bottom retaining clips sothe trim can be reused. Allow the adhesive to cure for a minimum of 24 hoursbefore removing the tape from the vehicle. Advise the client not to wash the vehicle for at least24 hours. Starting at the top, work your way down to removethe windshield side trim from the retainers using theappropriate KTC trim tool.NOTE: Make sure you do not damage the rubberseal on the windshield side trim.UPPER END OFWINDSHIELD SIDE TRIMBOTTOM CLIP3. Inspect the bottom clip retainer tabs on thewindshield side trim. If the bottom clip retainer tabs are broken orstress-whitened, discard the trim and use a newwindshield side trim to complete the repair, thengo to step 9. If the bottom clip retainer tabs are OK, go tostep 4.NOTE: The new windshield side trim comes withnew retainers and a bottom plastic clip.GOOD BOTTOM CLIP RETAINER TABSRUBBER SEALNOTICEDo not lift up the windshield side trim too high,as this could break the bottom clip.2 of 7If broken, replace trim.12-018

4. Inspect the trim for retainers, if any retainers areattached, bend the tabs out to remove them fromthe trim.6. Remove the plastic bottom clip on the vehicle byturning it 90 degrees. If the bottom clip is damagedor stress-whitened, replace it.2RETAINERTurn 90o.1PLASTICBOTTOMCLIPBend thetabs outward.Discard.7. Reinstall the plastic bottom clip into the windshieldside trim. Make sure the projection on the clippoints up.5. Inspect the windshield side trim for broken orcracked bridges. If a bridge is broken or cracked,use diagonal cutters and trim it as shown.BRIDGETrim thebroken pieces off.12-018PROJECTIONWINDSHIELDSIDE TRIMPLASTICBOTTOMCLIP8. Clean the trim with a shop towel dampened with 3Mgeneral purpose cleaner or isopropyl alcohol. Keepoil, grease, and water from getting on the bondingsurface.3 of 7

9. Inspect the retainers on the vehicle: If any retainers are missing or loose, go tostep 11. If any retainers are firmly attached to the A-pillar,remove any plastic trim pieces from them with aflat-tip screwdriver. Go to step 10.11. Remove any loose retainers or adhesive from thebody: Using a heat gun, heat the retainer or glue to212 –248 F (100 –120 C). Avoid damaging thepaint by applying heat gradually. Use a plastic scraper to remove the looseretainer or glue from the body. Be careful not to scratch the body.WINDSHIELDSIDE TRIM While applying heat, use the plastic scraper toremove any double-sided tape that may be stuckto the A-pillar.HEAT GUNCheck for brokenpieces of the trim.RETAINER10. Bend the tabs on the retainers back into place asshown.RETAINER(Remove.)PLASTIC SCRAPER12. Clean the bonding surface on the body with a shoptowel dampened with 3M General PurposeAdhesive Cleaner or isopropyl alcohol. Aftercleaning, keep oil, grease, and water from gettingon the bonding surface.13. Cut the Konishi Bond applicator tip to a diameter of6 mm.INTACTTRIMBRIDGECut.Bend out the tabson the retainers.4 of 712-018

14. Apply a thin layer of Konishi Bond to the entirebonding surface on each new retainer as shown.16. As a guide, lay the windshield side trim down nextto the retainers before applying the Konishi Bond.WINDSHIELDSIDE TRIMKONISHIBONDNEW RETAINER15. Install the new retainers in the locations where theoriginal retainers were removed, and allow theKonishi Bond to cure for 15 minutes before going tothe next step.RETAINERSDIMPLEDIMPLE12-0185 of 7

17. Starting at the bottom, apply a bead of KonishiBond between each retainer, and into any retainerwhere the windshield side trim bridge location wascut out. Make sure the bead is at least 5 mm high.18. Starting at the top, position the windshield side trimto align the top retainer between the trim alignmentribs. Firmly press the trim into the retainers andbottom slide clip hole until they click into place.NOTE: Konishi Bond adhesive begins curing withexposure to moisture in the atmosphere. Do step18 immediately after applying the adhesive.Do not apply Konishi Bond into any retainer wherethe bridge is still intact on the windshield side trim.NOTE: The trim will click into place only in the locationswhere the bridge on the trim is intact.Bead ofadhesiveshould be5 mm tall. If you don’t confirm that the windshield side trimhas clicked into place, you may get a comeback.TRIM ALIGNMENT RIBS5 mmTOP RETAINERKONISHIBONDINTACTBRIDGES1Don’t apply adhesivein the retainers ifthe bridges are intact.2MISSINGBRIDGEUse your elbowand leverage yourbody weight toset stubborn clips,Apply adhesive in theretainer if the bridgeis missing.6 of 712-018

Thedealer will replace or repair the windshield side trim.This work will be done free of charge. Please plan toleave your vehicle for a full day to allow the dealerflexibility in scheduling.20.
