WebexUsing Whiteboard Features in Remote TeachingIntroductionThe built-in whiteboard feature can be a great tool while teaching via Webex Meetings. It stimulates creativityand it can keep the class focused and attentive. Whiteboards allow you to collaborate on ideas or to work throughequations while teaching. In this self-help document, you will learn how to share the whiteboard within theWebex Meeting application. In addition, you will learn how to share and use the Microsoft Whiteboard applicationon your iPad allowing you to utilize a stylus for drawing purposes.Sharing the Built-In Whiteboard1. While in a Webex Meeting meeting, click the Share button located in your meeting tool bar.2. Scroll down and click New Whiteboard.Figure 13. Webex: Using Whiteboard Features in Remote Teaching Allow Annotation: Presenter-only - click on this option to either allow or disallow participants to useannotations in the Whiteboard. Pointer: Turn your cursor into an arrow or a laser pointer.oArrow Pointer: Displays a small arrow instead of your mouse pointer. Click to insert an arrow thatdisplays your name. Each subsequent click will remove the previous arrow placed. You can use thisfeature to point out your annotations to other participants.oLaser Pointer: Displays your mouse pointer to all participants when your mouse is within the areabeing shared. Use this to point out parts of the screen to other participants.Figure 3 Text: Insert text. Click once and then click on the whiteboard canvas and begin to type your text. Clickagain on the text tool to reveal a submenu with additional options such as the thumbnail tool,annotations and zoom. Line: Insert lines and arrows. Click on the right arrow to reveal the choice of Line, Single Arrowheador Double Arrowhead. Click on the desired line and drag it out onto the whiteboard canvas.Figure 4 Shape: This tool gives you the ability to draw shapes like squares and rectangles of any size on thewhiteboard. Click on the right arrow to reveal the choice of Square Shape, Oval Shape, Check Markor X Mark. Click on the desired shape and drag it out onto the whiteboard canvas.Figure 5 Pen: You can draw on the whiteboard using the pen tool. Webex: Using Whiteboard Features in Remote Teaching Annotation Color: Select the annotation color by clicking on the right arrow to reveal color choices.Click on any annotation tool such as the pen, shape, text, etc. and it will change the color of that tool.Figure 7 Eraser: Click on the eraser and then click on an annotation that you want to erase. Click on the rightarrow for additional options such as Clear All Annotations.Figure 8 Save: Click on the Save icon (box with downward arrow inside) to bring up the Save Document Asdialog box. Webex: Using Whiteboard Features in Remote TeachingUsing your iPad as an Additional DeviceIt may be tricky to draw with your keyboard and mouse using the whiteboard feature available through Webex. Asolution is to use your iPad as an additional device. In this self-help document, we will be using the MicrosoftWhiteboard app to utilize the touch screen features. However, there are many free apps that you can useincluding ShowMe Interactive Whiteboard, Educreations Interactive Whiteboard and Jot!.Open the Microsoft Whiteboard within Office 365 on your iPad1. From you iPad, open Safari and type office.towson.edu.2. Enter your TU Email address or NetID and password and then press Sign in.Note: You may have to authenticate through DUO.3. To reduce the number of times you are asked to sign in, click Yes in the Stay signed in? dialog box.4. From the Office 365 home page, press the Apps button in the upper left-hand corner and then press Allapps.Figure 115. Scroll down and press Whiteboard.6. The Whiteboard app will open. Tap Create new Whiteboard.Figure 12Note: The Whiteboard will now be added to the list of Apps on the Office 365 home page (along the left-handside of the page) so you will no longer have to go to all apps to find the application after initial use.4

Webex: Using Whiteboard Features in Remote TeachingSharing the Whiteboard from your iPad in Webex MeetingsBasic Whiteboard1. Make sure you have the Webex app downloaded on your iPad. (Search for Cisco Webex Meetings in the appstore).Note: You have the option of joining directly from your iPad or you may join from your computer and then joinagain from your iPad. In this example we have joined twice.2. From your iPad, click on the link to the Webex meeting and Click Join Meeting; however, keep yourselfmuted and keep the video turned off.Figure 133. Webex: Using Whiteboard Features in Remote Teaching Inking tools - Used to write on the board. Press one of the colored pens and then begin to draw on thecanvas. Eraser tool – Used to delete annotations. Press the tool and drag across what you want to erase on thecanvas. Text tool – Press the text icon and the Type here box will appear. Type using the onscreen keyboard.When finished, press on the dotted perimeter around the text box. Post-It tool. A blank post-it will be added to the board. The Keyboard will appear allowing you to typein the post-it. Sharing Link – Press this icon to reveal the Share pane. Press Share link on and press Copy link.You can now share the link in an email, Blackboard, etc.Figure 188. Your whiteboard is automatically saved.Whiteboard App – Advanced FeaturesYou may also launch the app for more advanced features. Be aware that you must also download theAuthenticator app as well to use this application.1. From your open Office 365 Whiteboard, press the Open in app icon.7

You may also export and delete boards created. Sharing – Allows you to share your current board. Sign Out App Settings – You may turn on advanced features such as ink to table and ink to shape.4. The Creation toolbar will appear at the bottom of the app.Figure 20 Inking – You can add text, highlighting, erase, ruler and more. Image – Add an image to the whiteboard Post-It Note – Add a post-it note. Insert Icon – Allows you to add documents, PowerPoint presentations, change the background templateand more. Undo and Redo5. To get started, click the Inking tool on the left. The toolbar will now display the Inking tools (or pens).Figure 21 Close - Closes the Inking tools. Pens – Used to write on the board. Choose a color, or the highlighter. To alter the color or width of apen, click the black dot at the top of the pen and select from the options in the menu.Figure 22 Eraser tool – Used to delete annotations.8

Webex: Using Whiteboard Features in Remote Teaching Ruler – Used for drawing straight lines at any angle. You can change the angle by using two fingers torotate it. Select a pen and draw a line against the ruler’s edge for a perfectly straight line.Figure 23 Lasso tool – Used for selecting elements on the board. Write some text, and then select it with the lassotool to bring up the context menu. Click the Ink Beautification button on the context menu. This turnsyour text into something much more readable. Undo and Redo actions.6. Click the Close Inking option.7. You will return to the Creation toolbar. Click the Add Image option. A standard file dialog box will open, inwhich you can select an image to insert. When you do, it will appear on the board.8. Click the Post-It icon. A blank post-it will be added to the board with a context menu that allows you towrite on it, change the color, and so on.9. Click on the Insert icon. A submenu will appear.
