You donot need to remove all existing finishes; you justneed to roughen the surface for a good bond.Clean all surfaces with a clean cloth with mineralsprits. Allow to dry thoroughly.Wipe surfaces with a tack cloth to remove anyremaining dust or sanding particles. Fill in any voids where the end panel meetsthe face with wood filler. Sand with sandingblock, and clean with tack cloth. Repeat this process on the other stiles. Now do the rails. Peel back just enoughbacking paper from one end of the strip.Align so that it overlaps the left and rightstiles by approx. 1”, and the top and bottomof the rail evenly.Press and smooth across, peeling thebacking paper as you go. Repeat on other rails.Trim the overlap inside the opening with arazor knife.Trim the overlap from the top and bottom ofthe cabinet.Step 3: FacingCUT SELF-ADHESIVE COVERINGS: Cut self-adhesive covering into strips 1/2”wider, and about 2” longer for each stile andrail you will be covering.Step 2: Cover End PanelsCut-to-size End Panels: Start by applying the cut-to-size plywood to thecabinet end panels. Apply wood glue to the backof the plywood, then fit it to end panel, makingsure it is flush with the cabinet front and bottom. Use finishing nails to secure. Using sanding block with 150 grit sandpaper, sand the edges of the plywood to ensure that itis flush with cabinet front frame. Use a clean tackcloth to remove the sanding dust. APPLY COVERINGS ONE OPENING AT A TIME: Start with the stiles. Peel back just enoughbacking from the top of the strip. Place sothat top edge of strip is flush and squarewith the top of the stile. Align so there is aneven overlap on each side of the stile. Pressand smooth downward, peeling the backingpaper as you go.Align a straight edge flush with the inside ofthe stile. Cut through the overlaps on boththe stile and rail. Remove the excess fromthe rail using the tip of the razor.Gently raise the covering off the rail, andremove the excess from the stile.Installation Guide for Cabinet Refacing5.

Step 5: Doors Use a sanding block with 150 grit paper tosand in one direction (INWARD), to smooth thecovering even with the face frame.Using a block of wood with a damp cloth, applyas much pressure as possible to the coveringfor good adhesion. Always go with the grain, not against it. Install hinges into bored recesses in the backof the door with the provided screws.Lightly mark with a pencil on the faceframe the amount of your overlay (this wasdetermined at order).Use a helper if possible to hold the door inplace while you install screws through hingeplate into edge of frame. Hold the door so theedge is even with the pencil mark.Step 4: Drawers (If Ordered) 6.Install drawer glides in two parts; the part withthe rollers are installed onto the bottom of thedrawer. The “C” channels are installed insidethe cabinet.Use supplied boots for framed cabinets.Frameless cabinets are usually installedwithout the boots.Attach a flat temporary board to the face of thedrawer to aid in alignment. Be sure this boardis flush with the face when the drawer is all theway in (see more detailed instructions in thefollowing section).Installation Guide for Cabinet RefacingStep 6: Drawer Fronts Start with a drawer above a door, if possible.Determine the space between the door anddrawer front, then cut a piece of scrap woodto this size to use as a spacer.Apply double stick tape to the back of the drawerfront. Stick the drawer front onto the drawer.Open the door below, then pull out the drawerfrom underneath. Carefully remove drawer.Use pan head screws through the inside ofthe drawer into the back of the drawer front.Installation DetailsFABRICATING & INSTALLING DRAWER STRETCHERSHORIZONTAL STRETCHERS are used to installdrawer boxes in framed cabinets. They are madewith 3/4” poplar or pine (or similar material) cutinto 2 1/2” wide strips. The drawer slide boots willbe attached to these stretchers. (For framelesscabinets, skip this section.)Measure across the back of your cabinet from theleft to right, and cut the stretcher to this dimensionminus 1/16”. Do the same thingfor all drawers. Put your stretcherinside the cabinets and bringthem to the front of the cabinetfacing, from behind the faceframe. (Fig. A)Make sure that it is even with the top of the drawerrail and mark the opening on the stretcher on eachside at the frame. (Fig. B) Remove the stretcher andplace it on a flat surface to mount the drawer boots.Your mounting boots need to be 1/8” away fromthe opening marks (see dotted lines on Fig. C) tocompensate for the thickness of the boots.Mount the boots flush with the bottom of thestretcher, using only one screw per boot until alladjustments are made and drawers roll smooth.Pre drill 2 to 3 holes using a1/4” drill bit in the stretchers forinstallation to the walls. Followthe same steps for the rest ofthe drawers at this time beforemoving forward. (Fig. D)Measure from the floor of thebase cabinet to the top of thedrawer rail (Fig. E); mark thisdimension on the cabinetback or wall. This is wherethe bottom of the boot ismounted using constructionglue and 2” course screws(as long as there is enough depth in the backwall for the screw.)Next set your cabinet side drawer tracks inplace by sliding the back into the mountedboot. Make sure to push them in 1/8” past thefront of the frame. Mark the screw holes andpre drill them with a 1/16” bit to avoid any framesplitting. Install the track with the 5/8” flat headscrews that came in the package.MOUNTING DRAWER BOX HARDWARE:Mount your drawer track sides using thevertical holes provided. It is not recommendedto screw into the bottom of the plywood, as itwill split even with pre drilling. Pre drill the holesand mount the track flush with the drawer boxfront. Use the 5/8” flat head screws that camein the packaging.Slide your drawer in by putting the drawer boxwheel over the cabinet track wheel and liftingup, then roll forward and let the drawer down.Make adjustment to the tracks as necessarythen install extra screws to the boots. Thefinished drawer should be flat with the cabinetframing left and right as well as flush with thetop and bottom.Installation Guide for Cabinet Refacing7.

Installation Details Cont’dCabinet OverlaysINSTALLING DRAWERS IN FRAMELESS CABINETSCabinet frameFor frameless cabinets, you will not need theback stretchers, or the mounting boots. Simplyattach the drawer slide tracks into the side wallsof the cabinet interior.DOOR HINGING AND HANGINGAll doors will need to be hingedand hung in accordance to theoverlays that were ordered.Doors will be pre drilled for themain hinge cup, but not the mounting holes. Youwill need to pre drill these holes or risk crackingyour new doors. Mount your hinges, beingcareful not to over tighten and strip them out.The hinges that you are using will automaticallyset the overlay on the hinge side. They havea tab that sticks outslightly that will stop thedoor at the front of theframe. The height can bedetermined as easily asmeasuring the overlay (such as ½”) and markingit on the face with a soft pencil and setting thedoor in place. You will need to pre drill most ofthe cabinet stiles before mounting your doorsas before to avoid cracking the cabinets. Hangthe doors and make adjustments. There are 3adjustments on the hinges; horizontal, verticaland camber. The most adjustment that you canexpect is just short of 1/8”.DRAWER FRONTSThe simplest way to installdrawer fronts is to firstinstall the base doors, thenline up drawer fronts overthe door using a temporaryspacer. Put double sided tape on the drawerbox face, and press the front on firmly. Thiswill only hold for a short while and you willneed to secure with some 1” course drywalltype screws. Be sure to pre drill and countersink the holes from inside the drawer boxto the front to ensure a tight front and aclean look on the interior of the drawer.Drawer fronts with recessed panels mustbe attached to drawer boxes with an “L” or“Angled” bracket to avoid penetrating panelface. Use only ½” screws to attach to bothdrawer front and drawer box.Drill door and drawer front hardware bymeasuring from the center of the screwholes, transfer that dimension to the cabinetdoor face where you want them installed anddrill the holes. Use a 3/16” sharp drill bit tobore the holes. There are many jigs on themarket for door hanging and for drilling thehandles.
