President’s WelcomeWelcome toBeautifulMonterey,California!4It is my privilege to host you at the 2011 “CAHPERDCalifornia Congress for Creating the Healthiest Children inAmerica,” March 10 - 13, 2011; welcome to beautiful Monterey, California! I hope you will find that Monterey is theperfect venue to host the “Congress,” and promote thisyear’s theme: “Learn It, Do It, Live It! - It Happens in Monterey!”I selected the “Learn It, Do It, Live It,” theme, because itis what educators have always asked of their students. Aswe present our daily lessons to the selected audience weare educating, we ask them to “Learn It,” or to engagethemselves in the knowledge of their topic. Once our students have begun the process of “Learning It,” we providean environment in which they can “Do It.” “Do It” impliesactivity or action. As our students progress in the processof learning and doing what they have been taught, theybegin to “Live It.” Isn’t that what we all want as we arelearning something new? “Learn It, Do It, Live It”?The 2011 CAHPERD California Congress for Creatingthe Healthiest Children in America (CCCCHCA) logo represents the three (3) most important focus points in practicing a healthy lifestyle. The triangle represents the strongestgeometrical figure known to man. The three (3) points ofthe triangle represent the Mind (“Learn It”), the Body (“DoIt”), and the Spirit (“Live It”). The figure within the triangledepicts a person who is in a constant stage of improvingtheir mind, body and spirit. At our CAHPERD Congress, you will learn innovativeand exciting strategies for implementing active, educational programs that will positively impact the mind, body andspirit. You will be provided with the resources to inspireand motivate your students to be active, both cognitively and physically, for a lifetime. The 2011 CAHPERDCongress Committee, lead by Mila Munden, hasplanned an informative, exciting and inspiredconference program that will challenge attendees to continue their growth and development in the areas of health, wellness andactivity. And you will leave the Congressre-energized and enthusiastic to joinCAHPERD in a statewide effort for California to host the healthiest children inAmerica, within five years. It is a lofty goal – but completelyachievable by the amazing leaders attending this CAHPERD Congress! Therefore and again, welcome and thank you for attending the 2011 “CAHPERD California Congress for Creatingthe Healthiest Children in America,” and experience the“Learn It, Do It, Live It!” as only Monterey can Bring It!By Dan Latham - CAHPERD President2011 CAHPERD CONFERENCE2010-2011 CAHPERD OfficersAdministrative CommitteeDan Latham, Warren High SchoolJoanie Verderber, Los Angeles COETerry Rizzo, CSU, San BernardinoDarren Avrit, University of LaVerneDrisha LeggittVice-PresidentsKristen Ring, Paso Robles JUSDMila Munden, Weaver USDTerry Liegey, Los Angeles USDMaureen Smith, CSU, SacramentoChristopher Busch, Planada ESDDistrict CoordinatorsZaNean McClain, CSU, East BayHeather Deckard, Sacramento City USD,Derek Mena, Las Virgenes USDRuth Mohr-Silofau, University of LaVerneSection ChairsRuth HaynesChad Fenwick, Los Angeles USDRobin Reese, Professor Emeritus, CSU, SacramentoGabriel Padayhag, CSU, SacramentoZaNean McClain, CSU, East BayKeith Johannes, Retired, Santa Ana USD2011 CAHPERD CONFERENCEPresidentPresident-ElectPast PresidentTreasurerExecutive DirectorHealth EducationPhysical EducationRecreationGirls & Women in SportBoys & Men’s AthleticsBayNorth CentralSouthernSouth CentralAdapted Physical EducationAdministration/SupervisionEarly Childhood/ElementaryFuture ProfessionalsMulticultural DynamicsRetired Members5
