Never check bores or passages with hands orfingers. Never operate the machine when adjusting the choke control or fuel valve.WARNING Whipping hydraulic hose Hydraulic hoses under pressure can whip uncontrollably if screwsloosen or are loosened. A whipping hydraulic hose can cause severe injuries. Depressurize the hydraulic systembefore loosening the connection of a hydraulic hose. Tighten the nuts on the connections of the hydraulic hosesto the required torque. Check that the hydraulic hose and the connections are not damaged.If the person receiving this handout will not be the user of the equipment, forward these instructions to theoperator. When working on certain materials and whenusing certain materials in machine parts, sparks andignition can occur. Explosions will lead to severeinjuries or death. Never operate the machine in any explosiveenvironment. Never use the machine near flammable materials,fumes or dust. Make sure that there are no undetected sourcesof gas or explosives.WARNINGOperating pressureIf the maximum operating pressure for the hydraulicmachine is exceeded, the accumulator can be overcharged which can result in material damage andpersonal injury. Always run the hydraulic machine with the correctoperating pressure. See "Technical data".WARNINGUnexpected movementsThe inserted tool is exposed to heavy strains whenthe machine is used. The inserted tool may breakdue to fatigue after a certain amount of use. If theinserted tool breaks or gets stuck, there may besudden and unexpected movement that can causeinjuries. Furthermore, losing your balance or slippingmay cause injury. Make sure that you always keep a stable positionwith your feet as far apart as your shoulder width,and keeping a balanced body weight. Always inspect the equipment prior to use. Neveruse the equipment if you suspect that it isdamaged. Make sure that the handles are clean and free ofgrease and oil. Keep your feet away from the inserted tool. Stand firmly and always hold on to the machinewith both hands. Never start the machine when it is lying on theground. If the machine has an exhaust, direct the exhaustso as to reduce disturbance of dust in a dust filledenvironment. Pay attention and look at what you are doing. Operate and maintain the machine asrecommended in the operating and safetyinstructionsWARNINGDust and fume hazardDusts and/or fumes generated or dispersed whenusing the machine may cause serious and permanentrespiratory disease, illness, or other bodily injury (forexample, silicosis or other irreversible lung diseasethat can be fatal, cancer, birth defects, and/or skininflammation).Some dusts and fumes created by drilling, breaking,hammering, sawing, grinding and other constructionactivities contain substances known to the State ofCalifornia and other authorities to cause respiratorydisease, cancer, birth defects, or other reproductiveharm. Some examples of such substances are: Crystalline silica, cement, and other masonryproducts. Arsenic and chromium from chemically-treatedrubber. Lead from lead-based paints.Dust and fumes in the air can be invisible to thenaked eye, so do not rely on eye sight to determineif there is dust or fumes in the air.To reduce the risk of exposure to dust and fumes,do all of the following: Perform site-specific risk assessment. The riskassessment should include dust and fumes createdby the use of the machine and the potential fordisturbing existing dust. Use proper engineering controls to minimize theamount of dust and fumes in the air and tominimize build-up on equipment, surfaces,clothing, and body parts. Examples of controlsinclude: exhaust ventilation and dust collectionsystems, water sprays, and wet drilling. Controldusts and fumes at the source where possible.Make sure that controls are properly installed,maintained and correctly used. Select, maintain and replace consumables/inserted tools/ other accessory as recommendedin the operating and safety instructions. Incorrectselection or lack of maintenance of consumables/inserted tools/ other accessories may cause anunnecessary increase in dust or fumes. Wear washable or disposable protective clothesat the worksite, and shower and change into cleanclothes before leaving the worksite to reduceexposure of dust and fumes to yourself, otherpersons, cars, homes, and other areas. Avoid eating, drinking, and using tobaccoproducts in areas where there is dust or fumes. Wash your hands and face thoroughly as soon aspossible upon leaving the exposure area, andalways before eating, drinking, using tobaccoproducts, or making contact with other persons. Comply with all applicable laws and regulations,including occupational health and safetyregulations. Participate in air monitoring, medical examinationprograms, and health and safety trainingprograms provided by your employer or tradeorganizations and in accordance withoccupational health and safety regulations andrecommendations. Consult with physiciansexperienced with relevant occupational medicine. Work with your employer and trade organizationto reduce dust and fume exposure at the worksiteand to reduce the risks. Effective health and safetyprograms, policies and procedures for protectingworkers and others against harmful exposure todust and fumes should be established andimplemented based on advice from health andsafety experts. Consult with experts. Wear, maintain and correctly use respiratoryprotection as instructed by your employer and asrequired by occupational health and safetyregulations. The respiratory protection must beeffective for the type of substance at issue (and ifapplicable, approved by relevant governmentalauthority). During operating, splinters or otherparticles from the working material may becomeprojectiles and cause personal injury by striking theoperator or other persons. To reduce these risk: Use approved personal protective equipment andsafety helmet, including impact resistant eyeprotection with side protection. Make sure that no unauthorised persons trespassinto the working zone. Keep the workplace free from foreign objects. Ensure that the work piece is securely fixed.WARNINGSplinters hazardUsing the insertion tool as a hand struck tool canresult in splinters hitting the operator and can causepersonal injury. Never use a insertion tool as a hand struck tool.They are specifically designed and heat-treated tobe used only in a machine.WARNINGSlipping, tripping andfalling hazardsThere is a risk of slipping or tripping or falling, forexample tripping on the hoses or on other objects.Slipping or tripping or falling can cause injury. Toreduce this risk: Always make sure that no hose or other object isin your way or in any other person's way. Always make sure you are in a stable position withyour feet as far apart as your shoulders width andkeeping a balanced body weight.WARNINGMotion hazardsWhen using the machine to perform work-relatedactivities, you may experience discomfort in thehands, arms, shoulders, neck, or other parts of thebody. Adopt a comfortable posture whilst maintainingsecure footing and avoiding awkwardoff-balanced postures. Changing posture during extended tasks mayhelp avoid discomfort and fatigue. In case of persistent or recurring symptoms,consult a qualified health professional.3392 5166 01 Original instructionsSafety and operating instructionsWARNINGVibration hazardsNormal and proper use of the machine exposes theoperator to vibration. Regular and frequent exposureto vibration may cause, contribute to, or aggravateinjury or disorders to the operator’s fingers, hands,wrists, arms, shoulders and/or nerves and bloodsupply or other body parts, including debilitatingand/or permanent injuries or disorders that maydevelop gradually over periods of weeks, months,or years. Such injuries or disorders may includedamage to the blood circulatory system, damage tothe nervous system, damage to joints, and possiblydamage to other body structures.If numbness, persistent recurring discomfort,burning sensation, stiffness, throbbing, tingling,pain, clumsiness, weakened grip, whitening of theskin, or other symptoms occur at any time, whenoperating the machine or when not operating themachine, stop operating the machine, tell youremployer and seek medical attention. Continueduse of the machine after the occurrence of any suchsymptom may increase the risk of symptomsbecoming more severe and/or permanent.Operate and maintain the machine as recommendedin these instructions, to prevent an unnecessaryincrease in vibration.The following may help to reduce exposure tovibration for the operator: Let the tool do the job. Use a minimum hand gripconsistent with proper control and safe operation. If the machine has vibration absorbing handles,keep them in a central position, avoid pressingthe handles into the end stops. When the percussion mechanism is activated, theonly body contact with the machine you shouldhave are your hands on the handle or handles.Avoid any other contact, for example supportingany part of the body against the machine orleaning onto the machine trying to increase thefeed force. It is also important not to keep the startand stop device engaged while extracting the toolfrom the broken work surface. Make sure that the inserted tool is well-maintained(including sharpness, if a cutting tool), not wornout, and of the proper size. Insertion tools thatare not well-maintained, or that are worn out, orthat are not of the proper size result in longer timeto complete a task (and a longer period ofexposure to vibration) and may result in orcontribute to higher levels of vibration exposure.9

Safety and operating instructions Immediately stop working if the machinesuddenly starts to vibrate strongly. Beforeresuming the work, find and remove the cause ofthe increased vibrations. Never grab, hold or touch the inserted tool whenusing the machine. Participate in health surveillance or monitoring,medical exams and training programs offered byyour employer and when required by law. When working in cold conditions wear warmclothing and keep hands warm and dry.See the ”Noise and vibration declaration statement”for the machine, including the declared vibrationvalues. This information can be found at the end ofthese Safety and operating instructions.DANGERElectrical hazardThe machine is not electrically insulated. If themachine comes into contact with electricity, seriousinjuries or death may result. Never operate the machine near any electric wireor other source of electricity. Make sure that there are no concealed wires orother sources of electricity in the working area.WARNINGConcealed object hazardDuring operating, concealed wires and pipesconstitute a danger that can result in serious injury. Check the composition of the material beforeoperating.BRK 25, 40, 55, 70, 95WARNINGNoise hazardHigh noise levels can cause permanent and disablinghearing loss and other problems such as tinnitus(ringing, buzzing, whistling, or humming in theears). To reduce risks and prevent an unnecessaryincrease in noise levels: Risk assessment of these hazards andimplementation of appropriate controls isessential. Operate and maintain the machine asrecommended in these instructions. Select, maintain and replace the insertion tool asrecommended in these instructions. If the machine has a silencer, check that it is inplace and in good working condition. Always use hearing protection. Use damping material to prevent work piecesfrom 'ringing'.Maintenance, precautionsWARNINGMachine modificationAny machine modification may result in bodilyinjuries to yourself or others. Never modify the machine. Modified machinesare not covered by warranty or product liability. Always use original parts, insertion tools, andaccessories. Watch out for concealed cables and pipes forexample electricity, telephone, water, gas andsewage lines etc. Change damaged parts immediately. If the inserted tool seems to have hit a concealedobject, switch off the machine immediately.CAUTIONHot machineThe insertion tool and the machine can become hotduring use. Touching it can lead to burns. Never touch a hot insertion tool or machine. Make sure that there is no danger beforecontinuing.WARNINGInvoluntary startInvoluntary start of the machine may cause injury. Keep your hands away from the start and stopdevice until you are ready to start the machine. Learn how the machine is switched off in the eventof an emergency. Stop the machine immediately in all cases ofpower supply interruption.10 Replace worn components in good time. The handheld breakersare designed for various jobs from light brickworkand asphalt jobs to heavy duty jobs in reinforcedconcrete. No other use is permitted. If it takes less than 10 seconds a smaller breakershould be selected. It is important to selectinsertion tools of high quality to avoid unnecessarymachine damage.The machine can be destroyed if you use an incorrectinsertion tool.Recommended insertion tools are listed in themachine's spare parts list.Narrow chiselThe narrow chisel is used fordemolition and cutting work inconcrete and other types ofhard materials.Moil pointThe moil point is only used formaking holes in concrete andother types of hard materials.4. Loosen the nipple on the breaker. Remember tohave an oil pan ready to take the oil spill fromthe breaker.5. Move the seal from the old nipple to the newnipple. Apply Loctite 245 and fit the nipple.Tighten with a torque of 56 2 Nm.6. Refit the hose.7. Replace the existing EHTMA label, on the breakerwith the new one from the plastic bag, so thatit can be seen that the breaker is now set to adifferent flow.8. Connect the breaker to the power source andcheck it for leakage.Wide bladed chiselThe wide bladed chisel is usedin soft materials, such asasphalt and frozen ground.WARNINGVibration hazardUsing inserted tools that do not fulfil the criteriasmentioned below, will result in a longer time tocomplete a task, and may result in higher levels ofvibration exposure. A worn tool will also causeincreased working time. Make sure that the inserted tool iswell-maintained, not worn out and of the propersize. Close the tool retainer (position A) and checkthe lock function by tugging the inserted toolsharply outwards.AChecking for wear on the tool shankAOperationBWARNINGInvoluntary startInvoluntary start of the machine may cause injury. Keep your hands away from the start and stopdevice until you are ready to start the machine. Learn how the machine is switched off in the eventof an emergency. Stop the machine immediately in all cases ofpower supply interruption.Use the gauge that corresponds to the insertiontool’s shank dimension. See section "Technical data"for correct tool shank dimensions. Check if the gauge’s hole (A) can be pushed downon the insertion tool’s shank, this means that theshank is worn out and the insertion tool shouldbe replaced. Check the length (B), that it is according to theordered machine type.Fitting and removing the insertion toolStart and stopStart Check that the tool is in good order and pressedfully home in the nose of the breaker. Check that the latch is locked, so that the tooldoes not fall out. Remove the protective caps from the quick-releasecouplings.Whenever fitting or removing the insertion tool thefollowing instructions must be observed:1. To prevent an accidental start: switch off thepower supply and bleed the machine bypressing the start and stop device. Disconnectthe machine from the power source. Clean the quick-release couplings if needed andconnect the tail-hoses to the extension hoses ofthe power source.2. Before inserting a tool, lubricate the tool shankwith grease.Stop3. Fit or remove the insertion tool. Place the breaker at a right angle on the materialto be broken and activate the trigger lever. Release the trigger. Press the breaker against thesurface, until the breaker has stopped completely. Stop the power source. BRK 25, 40, 55, 70, 95OperatingPreparation before startingSafety and operating instructions Never break off too large pieces. Adjust thebreaking distance (A) so that the inserted tooldoes not get stuck.The following checks should be made each time youstart to use the breaker. All these checks concern theserviceability of the breaker. Some concern yoursafety: Clean all safety stickers. Replace any that aremissing or cannot be read.A Inspect the hoses generally for signs of damage. Inspect the working tool for wear and damage.Do not use an excessively worn or damaged tool. Connect the tool. Ensure that the hydraulic couplings are clean andfully serviceable. Never invert the breaker without first isolating itfrom the power source. The working tool mightbe ejected violently while connecting it, if thebreaker is connected to the power source.Breaking Let the machine do the work; do not press toohard. The vibration-reducing handle mustabsolutely not be pressed all the way down to thebase. Hydraulic breakers with vibration-reducinghandles: The feed force should be adapted so thatthe handles are pressed down 'half way'. The bestvibration damping and breaking effect is achievedat this position. Ensure that any power source you plan to use iscompatible with the breaker model used (see the"Technical data"). Use the recommended oil flowdivider, if the flow from the power source canexceed the maximum allowed oil flow. Never exceed the maximum relief valve settingstated on the tool. Always connect T and P hoses before starting.Starting a cut Stand in a stable position with your feet well awayfrom the inserted tool. Press the machine against the working surfacebefore you start. Start collaring at such a distance from the edgethat the machine is capable of breaking thematerial without leverage. Avoid working in extremely hard materials forexample granite and reinforcing iron (re-bar)which would cause substantial vibrations. Any form of idling, operating without insertiontool or operating with an uplifted machine mustbe avoided.3392 5166 01 Original instructions17

Safety and operating instructionsBRK 25, 40, 55, 70, 95 When the machine is lifted, the start and stopdevice must not be activated.Every day Check regularly that the machine is welllubricated. Clean and inspect the machine and its functionseach day before the work commences. Never use the machine as a hand held impact tool. Check the tool retainer for wear and function. Ensure that the work piece is securely fixed. Conduct a general inspection for leaks anddamage and wear.When taking a break For the machine to maintain the specifiedvibration values, always check the following:Too big a clearance between the insertion tool’sshank and the chisel bushing will generateincreased vibrations. To avoid exposure toexcessive vibrations, check the chisel bushing forwear every day. During all breaks you must place the machine insuch a way that there is no risk for it to beunintentionally started. Make sure to place themachine on the ground, so that it can not fall. In the event of a longer break or when leaving theworkplace: Switch off the power supply and thenbleed the machine by activating the start and stopdevice. Check that the handle is moving freely (up anddown) and does not jam.Maintenance Replace damaged and worn components in goodtime. Change damaged parts immediately.Regular maintenance is a basic requirement for thecontinued safe and efficient use of the machine.Follow the maintenance instructions carefully. Before starting maintenance on the machine,clean it in order to avoid exposure to hazardoussubstances. See “Dust and fume hazards” Make sure that all the attached and relatedequipment, such as hoses and flow dividers areproperly maintained. Use only authorised parts.
