Volume XXXVIII, January 2015James Snyder, EditorWindy City Z Club OfficersTHE PRESIDENT SEZTy Ozgen, PresidentAhh, the good ole days. Lifewas so simple then. We had nofancy “I phones”, no internet, noemails. Cars were cars, not computers. Now carscan park themselves, stop themselves, they even haverear view cameras who needs mirrors anymore?Manual transmissions are on the way out, especially inthe U.S. The automatics are more efficient and evenfaster in many cases. With more complexity comesmore problems. You could even tell if a car was tunedproperly by sight in the old days, not by plugging it intoa computer. Some of the younger members may notknow this but I stillremember my dad tellingme that if you look intothe tailpipe of a car (whilestopped and off of course), especially after a longtrip, if it was a whitishgrey color inside , thatindicated that it wasrunning well and properlytuned. Just like that.Boom! This is as opposedto if it looked black, perhaps due to burning oilor too rich in thecarburetor. These days Ido not think the same principle applies. Now they plugthe car into a computer and it tells us some codes thatpotentially are the problem. So much for the garagemechanic. All the tailpipes look black inside. Exceptfor one. Don’t get me wrong, I do not go to the malland check everyone’s tailpipe. Sometimes you justcan’t help but notice. I am talking school buses. Haveyou ever checked out the tailpipes on these as you tagalong behind it as it picks up one after another student? There’s not a whole lot more to do as you sit behind it,staring at the yellow rear end of it unless it turns or youwww.windycityzclub.comPresident – Ty Ozgen 630.910.3616VP of Activities – Jeff Pleiter 630.832.7857VP of Administration – Pat Sylvester 847.895.6939Secretary/Membership – Sue Chan 630.379.6917Treasurer – Bill Bragg 262.697.1779Newsletter – James Snyder wczc.editor@gmail.comWebmeister – Glenn Johnson 630.363.2081get an opportunity to floor it and pass it. What Inoticed was that the tailpipe is the same grayish whitecolor as the cars of yesteryear. Cool but why? I’mreally not sure. I assume they are fuel injected thesedays, running on unleaded. Maybe they are allcarbureted and those bus drivers are really all gearheads who tinker with the floats and jets as they waitfor the kids at school.Hmmm.We had some veryproductive meetings so far inregards to our upcomingHeritagefest this June and wewill continue to do so. It takesa lot of effort to put one ofthese on and I am confident wewill do a great job. Everyoneis invited to help out in anyway, shape or form. Thewebsite should be up by thetime you read this. Check itout and if you want, registerearly. We still have events coming up to get us throughthis winter as Jeff will mention in his article, eventhough it has been OK so far compared to last year.My favorite of course is the Chicago Auto Show whichruns from Feb 14-22, 2015. Our club is going onMonday the 16th. I have picked up the tickets already, compliments of Jay Weinberger of Continental Nissan. This has been an annual ritual for our club and Jay isalways willing to help us. Thanks Jay. The tickets areon first come first serve basis, limit of 2 permember. Please email me at tyozgen@gmail.com toVolume XXXVIII, January 2015page 1

reserve your tickets. As usual, we will meet at theStarbucks near the entrance to the show cars at 6:15PM (the usual spot) and distribute the tickets then.Parking rates are cheaper after 6 PM apparently.Anyway, while I was at Continental Nissan I lookedaround to see what Z’s they had on the lot. As most ofyou know a 370Z roadster is a dream of mine but therewas none to drool over that day, however one Z didcatch my eye. A brand new 2015 Nissan 370Z NISMOin Pearl White, like the one pictured on our website andthe Nissan USA website. It was stunning!! Eventhough it was about 7PM, cold outside, and spatteredwith some slush from the plows, I was like a deergazing at headlights. The front end, the rear end, thered accents and everything in between!! What abeauty! If I did not know any better, I’d swear Jay wastrying to tell me something. Oh Tyyyy .forrrggeettthe roooaaadddsssttteeerrr. Getttt tttthhheeeNNNIIISSSMMMOOO, the NNNIIISSSMMMOOO.Then I came back to earth, you have a wife and 3 kidsto put through school. Maybe I’ll do home schooling,or better yet, “home collegeing.” Is there such a thing? On a more somber note, I’d like to wish MikeConnolly a very speedy recovery. He had a healthscare while at the dealership last month and we arefortunate that he will be fine. Many of us saw him atthe most recent Oktoberfest at Continental Nissan as hewas our host that day. My understanding is that he isback to work now. Get well soon Mike!!
