SCOPE1.1 Purrrose - This standard prescribes general requirementsmarking of Army materiel.for color and1.2 - This standard prescribes only general color and markingrequirements-notfinishes, surface preparations, related treatments for preservation and oatlng, or special requirements specified by Army design activities. This standard isnot intended to apply to exterior colors of Army equipment under tactical conditions inactive combat theaters of operation where such equipment may be painted LusterlessWhite No. 37875 in snow areas, or other colors or patterns deemed necessary forcamouflage or for compliance with host country requirements.

GENERAL(Ml)REQl J13LEMENTS4,1.1 Numerical Desirmation - The numerical designations of colors hereinrefer to FED-STD-595 and the colors so designated shall conform tn that standard.4.1,2 Controls and Displavs - Except where specified tn the contrary herein,color coding of controls and displays shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-1472.4.1,3 Off-the-Shelf Equipment - Repainting nf off-the-shelf equipment,subject by law to competitive procurement, will not be required in order to meet thecriteria herein. However, a criterion for selecting off-the-shelf commercial orGovernment equipment shall be the degree to which the equipment conforms tn thisstandard. Where off-the-shelf equipment requires modification in order to interfacewith other equipment, the modification, if it affects painted surfaces, shall comply withthe criteria herein.4.2 Markkvz.4.2.1 Identification. General - Identification markmg of all items of Armymateriel shall conform to MIL-STD-I 30, as applicable.4.2.2 Shirsment and Storage - Army materiel shall be marked for shipment andstorage in accordance with MIL-STD-129, as applicable. The labeling of Iiftkrg andtiedown points shall conform to MtL-STD-1472.4.2,3 Controls and Disrdavs - Controls, displays, and other items of equipmentthat must be located, identified, read or manipulated, shall be labeled to permit rapidand accurate human performance; however, labels are not required on equipment nrcontrols where use is obvious to the user (e.g., functional label on aircraft control stick).4.2.4 Labelirw. Letterimz. and Numeral Desirer - Where not specified to thecontrary herein, labeling, lettering, and numeral design shall conform, as applicable, tothe requirements of MIL-STD-1472.4.3 SrrmlementarvData and Color/Markhzfor Soecific Items - See Appendix.4.4 Bar Coding - Bar coding of unit packs, outer containers and selecteddocuments shall conform to MlL-STD-l 189.

ConstructionEauiomentEmsiDment. and Materials Handling5.1.1 Applicable exterior and interior surfaces of vehicles, constructionequipmenq and materials handling equipment shall be painted Lusterless Forest GreenNo, 34083, except as indicated in Table I. Colors applicable to personnel stepping areasdo not preclude use of grit or similar anitslip material. If commercial vehicles are to beused in tactical situations, the interior of the vehicle cab should be a dark color (i.e.,brown, black, or dark green)5,1.2 Marking.5,1.2.1 Nontactical Wheeled Vehicles - Nontacticalmarked as specified in MlL-STD-l 223. (Also see 4,3)wheeled vehicles shall be5,1.2.2 Combat and Tactical Vehicles - Combat and tactical vehicles shall bemarked as specified in MIL-STD-642. Tactical bulk fuel transporters and fuel servicingvehicles shall have required safety exterior markings per Department of transportation(DOT) regulations governing the transportation of hazardous materials in tank motorvehicles.
