Busy busy.By the time you all read this the vast majority of our events will be in the rear viewmirror. It will be sometime in September after a whirlwind summer and just after TheRoad America Challenge at Road America. What will be left is Rallye IV (9/11/16), Oktoberfest Social (9/17/16), Autocross V(9/18/16), Concur V (9/25/16), Oktoberfest at Blackhawk Farms (10/8-9/16), GalenaFall Driving Tour (10/14-16/16), Fall Tech Session (11/6/16) and wrapping up 2016with the Annual Awards and Dinner Dance (12/10/16). One more thing you all reallyneed to do is vote and I am just not talking about Hillary and Donald!Around the time you read this the Chicago Region PCA nominating committee willhave met and selected the slate for the 2017 Board of Directors. There will probablybe a couple of people coming off the board and a couple of people returning.Myself.I plan on returning. So I will send out an email blast sometime in Octoberwith the ballot attached. All you need to do is print out the ballot, select thecandidates.sign it and mail it to our secretary, Carl Armand.I also call you to read a great piece in this Scene written by our treasurer, DavidAngelus. It’s kind of about volunteering and getting involved. Way back when Istarted in the club, I participated in almost every driver’s education event. Thosewho know me know I am not the type to just “sit there” or if I do, I fall asleep! So Ialways volunteered. I am in my 15th year of helping run events at Road America andjump in on other events when possible. So as the year winds down, give it somethought and where you might be able to serve your club in the years to come! ----If you look back in the April 2005 edition of The Chicago Scene, you will find anarticle on page 39. Back then.I was doing my first volunteer thing, the GoodieStore. I was a pretty frequent contributor to The Chicago Scene. My father hadpassed away in February of that year and so many people from the Porsche Clubcame out to pay their respects. It was a very difficult time for me and my family. At the end of July, my mom passed away. The last couple of months for her wherepretty bad, so she is at peace and in a better place. And again.my ChicagoRegion PCA friends to the rescue. I know I should not be surprised.but it was sonice to see people come out, take time to write me emails or make a phone call tocheck in with me. The flowers the Club sent.I guess there was some kind of mixup. So at the service on Monday, I noticed a beautiful spray of flowers. Then at thegrave site.the flowers where there again. So in the end.the flowers went with mymom. That thing that we say. It’s not about the cars.it’s about the people, is so true.SEPTEMBER EVENTS9/29/39/99/119/189/259/30TRAC 9/2 - 5Concours 4Board MeetingRallye 5Autocross 5Concours 5Board Meeting (for Oct.)OCTOBER EVENTS10/8Oktoberfest 10/8 - 9at Blackhawk Raceway10/14 Touring Galena 10/14-16NOVEMBER EVENTS11/4Board Meeting11/6Fall TECH SessioniTech my car 4TRACKDECEMBER EVENTS12/10 Dinner DanceUntil next time .Chuck LaMantia, President847-417-6685On the Cover Scott McClement, CaymanGT4, driving Autocross atthe Tire Rack facility. The Chicago Region of The Porsche Club of AmericaAttendsWestmont Cruisin’ Nights and Street Fair - July 21, 2016The Westmont Cruisin’ Nights and Street Fair has become one of the most exciting weeklysummer events in the Chicagoland area. This unique events closes down three blocks ofdowntown Westmont every Thursday in June, July and August so that classic car enthusiastscan check out the “Cool Cars On Cass”.“One of the exciting new features at the event is the addition of international car clubs,” saidKristina Kaniauskaite, Westmont Special Events Corporation (WSEC) Office Manager. “TheWSEC wants to give a big thank you to our friends from Porsche Club of America for bringingout more than 50 cars to one of our events in July. This was our biggest car club turnout so farthis year. We received numerous positive comments about the addition of the car clubs, andspecifically, the Porsche club.”“I thought the event was very well organized, perfectly executed and enjoyed by all whoparticipated,” said Carl Armand, Porsche Club member. “My favorite part was seeing all thosebeautiful cars, not just Porsches, and the camaraderie enjoyed among our members.”The Westmont Cruisin’ Nights & Street Fair event features classic cars, live music, marketvendors, radio station promotions, business and restaurant specials, kids activities, and more. The event averages more than 250 vehicles and 2500 event guests each week. Our Rallye season will be well underway by the time you read this. Four of the five rallyes for the year will have beenthfinished by the time this September Scene is issued. The first rallye was April 17 , started in Warrenville, and endedat the Spotted Fox Ale House in St. Charles, results were reported in the June Scene. The second rallye in May was called the "Mayday Mayday Rallye", apparently our Rallye Masters Jim Corbett andGary Neal were trying to tell us something. But the rallye wasn't as scary as the name implied and as far as we cantell no one really got lost. OK, maybe one or two wayward turns that were immediately regretted, but the rallye didn'thave any pesky tricks. No actual "Mayday" calls were reported. The day was sunny and certainly chilly but it wasgood driving weather as we started at Panera Bread in Gurnee and finished at scenic Michael’s On the Lakerestaurant in Kansasville, WI. The roads were very scenic, the transit zone had a time warp back to the 60's by way ofGus's Drive-in located in East Troy WI, and the end point restaurant was on a scenic lake. The third rallye in June was entitled the “The Kindergarten Rallye” and we were advised that “You’ll need to knowyour numbers and letters” in the flyer. Were our Rallye Masters Steve Rashbaum and Susan Shire trying to misleadus into thinking it was as easy as kindergarten, only to later whip out a ruler to slap our knuckles like the mythical 60’sera nun schoolteacher. Nope, the rallye again was on beautiful roads and as far as we know, none of the cars are stillout there roaming around the Wisconsin roads looking for a checkpoint. The starting and endpoint were at theBratstop in Kenosha WI, a novelty treat in itself. As you can see from the results attached each rallye had good attendance with about a third of the participants’ in thenovice class. The fourth rallye “Another Second Chance” will be history before this issue of the scene reaches you because it willstbe held August 21 . Rallye Masters Jack and Karen Stephensen are giving Steve and Sharon Olson’s “SecondChance Rallye” a Second Chance! Makes sense, right? Hopefully you saw the announcements on the PCA-Chicagowebsite and came out for this event starting in Oak Brook and ending in Willowbrook. The last rallye of the year “Remember 911!” will be held on, wait for it .September 11th. The announcement ishere in the Scene and on the PCA-Chicago website. Steve and Sharon Olson are experienced Rallye Masters andalways present a memorable rallye. One other rallye that deserves mention is the PCA Parade Rallye held at Jay Peak Vermont in June. PCA-ers from allover the U.S.A participated and the competition was top notch. This year’s Parade had over 1,000 registrations withover 100 cars in the rallye competition. Of course our Chicago Region was well represented at the Podium. Steveand Sharon Olson placed an impressive first place in the Navigation Class, and Con and Sue O’Mahoney placedsecond in Unequipped Plus Class. Yours truly Rallye Season Coordinators Tom and Ann Snyder placed fourth in theNavigation Class. We’ll try harder next time. Jack Stephensen was the Co-Rallye Master for this event. If you are new to Rallying it’s never too late to try your first rallye. We have a “Touring Class” at every rallye withannotated instructions to help keep you on the rallye course. If you’d like to keep informed on rallye news, we have a Rallye Enthusiast e-mail list. Let us know you are interestedand we’ll add you to the list.We hope to see you at Rallyes 4 & 5.Snydert2125@gmail.comOurRallyeSeasonSponsor

To; Chicago Scene – PCAJuly 20,2016From; Steve Brown - PCA MemberAs with many of you, I just wrapped up a fantastic weekend at R.A.D.E. Yeah we had some rain, but what a great way to hone your driving skills and better understand your foul weather limits. Itis amazing how well organized things are at the track and I suppose a “thank you” is in order toall who put it together. It is appreciated.Upon return I was anxious to watch and share my GoPro videos, compare lap timeimprovements and just relish the amazing performance of these cars; mine is a 2016 BoxsterGTS/PDK/Sports Chrono/PTV. I just came off a 2013 Boxster which I tracked at RA twicebefore. Some of my non PCA member, Porsche owning buddies who won’t do DE, wonder; “why wouldyou trash your car?” They just don’t get it. On a track where you can explore the limits and trulyappreciate the capabilities, the durability and sheer pleasure of a Porsche, how can thatpossibly compare to occasional attacks of the freeway ramp system? How about this; the music coming out of a Porsche (especially PDK in Sport Plus) is where thePorsche experience takes on a whole new dynamic and aural experience. As they often say; itis the total package. Driving my car in a DE at RA is a real treat. It makes me wonder why Iwaited so long to dive in, to both the Porsche car, as well as DE’s. If you are on the fence, itmight be time for you to jump down. Your car can do it, so can you with an instructor to get yougoing and there are amazing techies there to make sure your car is ready. You will gain a wholenew appreciation for your car. #!" ' # ! " ! " ! " ' #!" ( " &" ! " ! " ! % "! " # ! ! !" # " ! !" ! % "# % ! % " #" ! " ' #) # ' #) #!
