Important InformationThe Polaris Vac-Sweep 360 automatic pool cleaner comes ready to connect to a threaded 1-1/2" femalepipe fitting on a dedicated return line. Connections to other return lines are possible, but require additionalfittings (see Section B on page 4). If you have a chlorinator, solar system or other air inducing equipment, contact our Customer Service Department at 1-800-VAC-SWEEP (USA and Canada only) before youinstall the Polaris 360.The following are important points to remember when installing and operating the Polaris 360. Always disconnect the Polaris from the pool wall when cleaning or backwashing the pool filter. After cleaning or backwashing, let the filtration system run for at least five minutes beforereconnecting the Polaris. New plumbing lines should be flushed out before installing the Polaris. The Polaris should not be used to remove plaster dust in new pools. Always remove the Polaris before swimmers enter the pool. Always handle the Polaris with care. Do not let children or pets play with the Polaris; it is not a toy. Except when checking the wheel RPM, do not handle the Polaris while it is operating. Never pick up the Polaris by the head float. Always remove the Polaris from the pool before chemical shock treatments. As a general rule, any pool water that is unsafe for swimming is unsafe for the Polaris. Carefully cut the feed hose following the instructions on page 5.By following these simple guidelines, you can help protect against injury and prolong the life of yourPolaris 360.Before the Polaris is installed, please take a moment to record the serial number. For the location ofthe serial number, refer to the Exploded Parts Diagram on page 12. You will be asked for this numberwhen contacting our Customer Service Department.Serial # LWARNING: USE OF POLARIS 360 IN A VINYL LINER POOLCertain vinyl liner patterns are particularly susceptible to rapid surface wear or pattern removal causedby a variety of objects coming into contact with the vinyl surface, including pool brushes, pool toys, floats, fountains, chlorine dispensers, and automatic pool cleaners. H. Fine Tuning the Polaris 1. Thrust Jet Adjustment The thrust jet adjusts the direction of the Polaris. Its standard position is eleven o’clock. See the“Assembling the Polaris” diagram above for thelocation of the thrust jet.IPUSHE9 TIGHTRGPUSHELEFTSUNIT12NIUS 11 SES CLIMBAEINRNCFor proper operation, the Polaris should operatebetween 28 and 32 RPM. If it has less than 28RPM, follow the instructions below.3REABI NGDECS E S C LI M Clean the filter screen (#39). A dirty filterscreen will restrict the water flow tothe Polaris. Clean the skimmer, filter, and pump basket. If an adjustable valve has been installed, adjust the valve to increase water tothe Polaris. If the 360 is connected to a dedicated returnline, adjust the 3-way diverter to allow moreflow to the cleaner until 28-32 RPM are reached.62. Sweep Hose AdjustmentThe sweep hose should operate in a gentlesweeping motion. To decrease the motion of thesweep hose, turn the sweep hose adjustmentscrew clockwise. Make sure the sweep hosescrubber (#30) is not blocking the water flowingout the end of the sweep hose. See the “Assembling the Polaris” diagram on page 6.3. Checking Wheel RPMIf the 360 is connected to one of the pool'sreturn lines, restrict the flow from the otherreturns. Use the Polaris Standard EyeballRegulator Disks (part #9-100-8006) availableat your participating Polaris dealer. If your pooldoes not have eyeball returns, contact ourCustomer Service Department. To determine whether the Polaris is receivingproper water pressure, turn off and carefullyremove the Polaris from the pool. Mark the outeredge of the tire. Place the Polaris back into thepool and turn on the filtration pump. Check the hoses, connections, and swivels forleaks that could cause loss of water pressure.Hold the sweep hose to avoid getting wet. Hold the Polaris by the blue top, suspended onits side just below the water level. Count therevolutions of the marked wheel for exactly oneminute, beginning after it has completed a backup cycle. This gives the wheel Revolutions PerMinute (RPM).If the above suggestions do not work, contact your participating Polaris dealer. If you have more than 32 RPM, unscrew thepressure relief valve (#41) until the proper RPMare reached. If an adjustable valve has beeninstalled, adjust the valve to reduce the amountof water going to the Polaris. If you have any additional questions, please contact the Polaris Customer Service Departmenttoll-free at 1-800-VAC-SWEEP (USA and Canada only) or (760) 599-9600, Monday throughFriday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., PST.7

III.Operation/Periodic AdjustmentsA. Connecting/Disconnectingthe PolarisTurn off the filtration pump. Turn the quick disconnect into the universal wall fitting. Pull away fromthe pool wall to secure. To disconnect, push thequick disconnect in and turn. To make connecting and disconnecting thequick disconnect even easier, periodicallylubricate the quick disconnect O-ring withO-ring lubricant. Some Polaris owners have told us it is easierto empty the filter bag when it is dry. Theyalternate between two filter bags. When onebecomes full, they remove it and put on theclean bag. They let the full bag dry completely before emptying it.D. Periodic MaintenanceB. Turning On/Off the PolarisThe following parts are wear items that should beperiodically checked and replaced as needed.Wear items are not covered under warranty. The Polaris 360 operates off the pool filtrationsystem and can be turned on/off by simplyturning on/off your filtration pump. The Polaris willoperate during the same time cycle that the poolfiltration pump operates. When possible, empty the filter bag when itgets half full, especially if the dirt load issand. The Polaris will perform best when thebag is not overloaded.1. Filter Screen (#39)Inside the quick disconnect is a filter screen. Itacts as a safety filter to keep any debris that isnot caught by the pool filtration system out of thePolaris. Always disconnect the Polaris prior tocleaning the pool filter to prevent debris fromflowing into the filter screen during maintenance. If you have a lot of debris in your pool(i.e. after a storm), you can run your Polarisin two shorter cycles per day and empty thefilter bag between cycles.C. Cleaning the Filter BagQuick DisconnectRemove the bag by releasing the prongs andremoving the bag tie collar from the feed hose.Open the velcro closure and dump out the debris.See the diagram at the top of the next column. TabIf the velcro closure begins to lose its “grip”,rinse it, let it dry and clean it with a stiff brush.Reconnect the filter bag with the velcro closuretoward the feed hose. Reattach the bag tie collaron the feed hose.SlotFilter Screen8

To clean the filter screen, pull it out of the quickdisconnect, rinse it and press it firmly backinto place.G. AccessoriesPlease Note: Running the Polaris without thefilter screen can damage the Polaris and voidthe warranty. If the filter screen clogs often, consult your pool professional. The ladder guard kit will help prevent the Polarisfrom getting hung up around the pool ladder orhandrails.2. Wear Rings (#36)If the sweep hose tends to break the surface of thewater — squirting nearby windows, pool decking,or innocent bystanders — a sweep hose weightcan be installed.1. Ladder Guard Kit (Part #G21)2. Sweep Hose Weight (Part #B2)The sweep hose (#35) is fitted with rolling wearrings to protect the sweep hose. Replace thembefore the weights on either side of the wearrings begin to wear. 3. Filter BagsTo maximize the life of the wear rings, we recommend that you rotate them as they wear. The Polaris comes with an all-purpose bag forgeneral use in all pools. You may want to purchaseone of our special bags listed below and rotatebetween them as needed.3. Tires (#6)The tires provide traction and protect both thePolaris and the bottom of your pool. Replace thetires when the edges become rounded.Disposable All-Purpose Bag(Part #9-100-1013)The disposable all-purpose bag is a convenientand efficient alternative to the all-purpose bag.Just let the bag fill, then simply throw it away. Soldin packages of three.4. Sweep Hose Scrubber (#30)The sweep hose scrubber helps keep the bottomand sides of your pool clean. It also helps preventthe sweep hose from spraying water out of thepool. The scrubber may need to be replacedoften depending on the surface of your pool. Sand/Silt Bag (Part #9-100-1015)The sand/silt bag is made of a fine mesh materialto trap very fine silt and dust. The bag provides asecondary filtering system, removing debris assmall as 9/1000 of an inch.To maximize the life of the sweep hosescrubber, we recommend that you turn itas it wears.Leaf Bag (Part #9-100-1012)E. Backwashing the Pool FilterThe leaf bag is a large bag made of a moredurable material. It is specifically designed tocollect larger, heavier types of debris such aslarge quantities of leaves and acorns.Always disconnect the Polaris from the pool wallbefore cleaning or backwashing the pool filter. After cleaning or backwashing, let the filtrationsystem run for at least five minutes to flush outthe return lines before reconnecting the Polaris.4. WaterStars (Part #7-400-00) andWaterStars WF (Part #11-100-00)F. Storage and WinterizingThe Polaris WaterStars fountains come equippedto connect to a universal wall fitting. Once thePolaris 360 is installed with the universal wall fitting, you can quickly and easily switch from poolcleaner to Polaris fountain and back again.Never store the Polaris in direct sunlight. Whenstoring for the winter, be especially sure to drainout all the water (freeze damage is not coveredunder the warranty). Also, remove the universalwall fitting from the pool wall. Attach the quickdisconnect, pull away from the pool wall andunscrew the quick disconnect. In some cases, itmay be necessary to use the universal wall fitting removal tool (part # 10-102-00) availablefrom your participating Polaris dealer.5. SpaWand (Part #5-100-00)This simple, effective hand-cleaning device allowsyou to rapidly clean your spa without hoses orhookups. It’s also great for fish ponds and othersmall bodies of water.9
