Rodless CylindersGeneral InformationCatalog 0953FeaturesThe ORIGA PrinciplePiston MountingOuter SealingBandEnd CapCushion ScrewBarrelPistonInner SealingBand4. The extensive experience in thedevelopment and production of rodlesscylinders, as well as the use of highquality components and materials, ensurea very serviceable design lending itselfto high operating safety and optimumperformance.Features1.The cylinder barrel of extruded anodizedaluminum has a slot along its entirelength. To provide rigidity the bore iseccentric to the outside diameter.2.A flexible hardened stainless steel innerband running the entire length of the boreand passing through the piston providesa near-zero-leakage metal to metal seal.An outer band of the same material actsas a cover over the slot preventing foreignparticles from entering into the cylindersinterior.5. This unique design, using only 4 maincomponents, makes ORIGA cylindersreliable in operation and simple tomaintain, providing long trouble freeservice.6. ORIGA is the specialist in the rodlesscylinder field. ORIGA has the largestrange of bore diameters and can offer thelongest stroke lengths with applicationoriented accessories for cost effectivedesigns. ORIGA has experience in allconceivable areas of industry, attributableto the thousands of applications in whichORIGA rodless cylinders are used.3. The aluminum piston is fitted withsynthetic bearing rings. The powertransmission outward takes place througha positive, physical connection throughthe slot to the external piston mounting. This solid guide permits the acceptanceof external forces and moments andminimizes frictional losses.2ORIGAParker Hannifin CorporationParker-OrigaGlendale Heights, Illinoiswww.parkeroriga.com

Rodless CylindersGeneral InformationCatalog 0953BenefitsTechnical BenefitsTemperature Range/Piston SpeedStandard Buna-N seals are suitable fortemperatures from15 F to 175 F. Vitonseals are required for higher temperaturesas well as for use when piston speedsexceed 5 ft./sec. Please contact the ParkerORIGA Technical Department if the requiredoperating temperature is above 175 F.Design OptionsParker ORIGA cylinders can be suppliedas a basic model, or as a basic model withexternal guides depending on the applicationrequirements.Cylinder MountingsVarious types of piston mounting areavailable including one which allows thecylinder to be inverted under adverseoperating conditions thus protecting thesealing bands. End mounting brackets andmidsection supports are also available.Magnetic PistonsAll Series 2002 cylinders are supplied asstandard with magnetic pistons for proximityswitch actuation.Proximity SwitchesMagnetically operated Hall Effect switches(IS) or Reed switches (RS) are available tosense piston position at any point over theentire stroke length.Operating PressureMax. 120 P.S.I.End Of Stroke CushioningAdjustable cushioning is provided asstandard and ensures the piston stopssmoothly, even at high speeds.Corrosive EnvironmentsAll screws are plated. In extremeapplications stainless steel can be supplied.Special aluminum coatings are available foradded protection against chemical or causticwash down of equipment or in environmentswhere corrosive gases are present.Oil Free OperationThe Parker ORIGA permanent lubricatinggrease eliminates the need for regular oilmist lubrication and provides long servicelife. Cylinders can be used in applicationswhere maximum cleanliness is required.(e.g. electronics pharmaceutical and foodprocessing industries).Cylinder LoadingValues are based on shock-free duty andshould not be exceeded during pistonacceleration.Slow Speed ApplicationsThe construction of the Parker ORIGArodless cylinder allows for a low frictioncharacteristic permitting extremely slowtraversing speeds. For speeds below 4inches / second we recommend that ParkerORIGA “slow speed” lubrication is specified.Note:Seal life can be significantly influenced byextremes of speed, load and temperaturewhich exceed the approved limits. Contactthe Parker ORIGA Technical Department forassistance with special applications. All specifications are subject to changewithout notice.3ORIGAParker Hannifin CorporationParker-OrigaGlendale Heights, Illinoiswww.parkeroriga.com

Rodless CylindersApplication DataCatalog 0953ApplicationsApplicationsFor more than 30 yearsParker-Origa cylinders haveprovided solutions to linearmotion problems in all typesof industry.Offering simple designs, easyinstallation, clean operation andmaintenance free duty, Parker-Origacylinders are suitable for a diversity ofapplications and environments. For more information orassistance with your linearmotion tasks, please call anauthorized distributor orParker-Origa direct.6ORIGAParker Hannifin CorporationParker-OrigaGlendale Heights, Illinoiswww.parkeroriga.com

Rodless CylindersTechnical DataCatalog 0953AdvantagesSix Unique AdvantagesEqual Force and SpeedEqual piston area on each side of the pistonallows for equal force and speed in bothdirections of travel. Additionally, the abilityto “pneumatically lock” the piston at variouspoints along the stroke is possible throughthe use of special valve configurations.Any Length of StrokeInfinitely variable strokes are available upto 480 inches and each cylinder is custommanufactured to customer requirementswithout incurring extended delivery times.Space SavingThe lack of a piston rod allows for nearlyhalf the space requirement of a “rod type”pneumatic cylinder. The result is a simpler, less costly installation reducing the amount ofhardware and design time.Accepts Cantilever LoadsThe unique piston design and barrel rigidityallows the Origa cylinder to accept high directand bending moment loads without the needfor additional support hardware.Self GuidingThe internal self-supporting characteristics ofthe Origa rodless cylinder provides guidanceof the piston throughout the stroke. Highpriced guidance mechanisms (roundwaybearings, precision slideways, etc.) are notrequired.Inherent RigidityIntegral strength and rigidity of the completecylinder assembly will accommodate theheaviest of loads enabling the cylinder toform part of a structure or framework. Thiseliminates the need for expensive and bulkyI-beams, channels and fabrications.7ORIGAParker Hannifin CorporationParker-OrigaGlendale Heights, Illinoiswww.parkeroriga.com
