Onecoaxial cable will connect toyour TV or cable box,and the other will connectto your modem.4 Connect the open end ofyour coaxial cable to the backof your new modem. If you’reusing a cable splitter (Steps 2& 3), connect the open endof the second coaxial cableto your cable box.5 Plug your modem’s powercord into the back of themodem, then plug the otherend of the power cord into anelectrical outlet.6 Take one end of the ethernetcable provided and plug itinto the yellow port on yourmodem, then connect theother end to your computer’sethernet port.7 Wait a few minutes for themodem to start up beforemoving on to Section 2. You’llknow your modem is readywhen the four lights are solid.Don’t connect the routerjust yet: complete the stepsin Section 2 first.

Section 2Set up your internet and phone serviceLet’s get your phone and internet working. Once you complete the online registration process, you’ll be able to connect your smart router and set upWiFi access through your wireless network (Sections 3 and 4). If you’re only connecting internet, skip Steps 1 and 2 below and start at Step 3.Connect your services1 Connect one end of your phone cord to the back of the modem and the other end of the phone cord to your phone as shown below. For two phone lines, connect asecond phone cord.2 Plug your phone into an electrical outlet, if needed. Ensure your phone is fully charged before using it.ModemPhone cordElectricaloutletPowercordPhonePhone3 T urn on your computer, open a web browser and you’ll be automatically directed to register online. Follow the on-screen instructions. You’ll knowyour modem is ready when thefour lights are solid. This may take afew minutes.4 Plug the smart router’s power cordinto the back of the smart router, thenplug the other end into an electricaloutlet. If you don’t see the powerlight, press the power button on theback of the smart router.5 Wait a few minutes while the routerchecks for updates. When you seethe alternating green lights, you’llknow the router is ready. If you’reusing a wired computer go to Step6 in this section. If you’re using awireless device to set up your WiFinetwork move on to Section 4.6 If you want to set up a wiredconnection (this is not necessary toaccess your internet through WiFi),connect your existing ethernet cablebetween your computer and one ofthe four open LAN ports on the backof your smart router.

Section 4Set up your wireless home network1 If you’re using a wired connection, move on to Step 2. If you’re using a wireless laptop, computer or device, go to theWiFi settings on your computer or device (examples below),select the default WiFi name (SSID) found on the label of yoursmart router, and then enter your password/pin.2 Open your web browser and you’ll be automatically directed to this page. If it doesn’t load, goto optimum.net/router and follow the on-screen instructions for establishing a WiFi name andpassword/pin. This is where you’ll use the default WiFi name and password found on your smart router.a.
