GENERAL FLIGHTINFORMATIONThis document is designed to assist you inmaking your travel arrangements. An essentialpart of your preparation for studying abroadincludes obtaining the proper traveldocumentation for your international stay.Please read this document carefully todetermine if you need to take actionimmediately in preparation for travel.You are responsible for booking your owntravel to and from the program location. Inaddition, it is your responsibility to read andunderstand the terms and conditions for yourairline ticket(s), to reconfirm your flightreservations in advance of the day of travel,and to be aware of airline and TSA regulationsfor baggage size and contents. SIT is notresponsible for additional charges you mayincur as a result of airline schedule changes orother travel-related reasons.Once you have finalized your travelarrangements, please log into yourapplication portal and enter your itineraryinformation and any notes about yourarrival in the Travel Information section ofyour application. This will ensure that SITstaff knows when to expect you. Please submityour travel itinerary no later than 30 days priorto your program’s start date.AIRLINE INFORMATIONWe have been advised that the followingairlines usually provide service to the meetinglocation for this program: Mongolian AirlineMIAT, Korean Air, Air China, Aeroflot andTurkish Airlines.You can, of course, travel on any airline ofyour choice; however, please note thatregardless of your transportation carrier, youare expected to be at your meeting location atthe required time.OTHER KINDS OFTRANSPORATIONOne way of traveling to and from Mongoliacould be railway transportation. There areweekly trains of Chinese railways commutingbetween Moscow and Beijing via Ulaanbaatar.Mongolian railways and Russian Railways offertrain rides between Ulaanbaatar and Moscoweach once a week. If you don’t arrive within the11:00 pmexpected time frame, you may missrequired program orientation sessions.Group Meeting Location: Next to the coffee shop(on your right hand side) on the first floorGroup Will Be Met By: SIT Mongolia staffmembers: Baatar Akh, Shijir, Maralaa, and/orTugsuuArrival prior to the start of the program ISpossible. However, please note that we arerequired to process long-term registration ofstudents with the local authorities within sevendays of the program’s start date. Arriving earlyand/or not getting registered on time couldinhibit your ability to legally reside in thecountry until the program’s conclusion date.No SIT Study Abroad staff will be able to assistyou with any matter should you arrive beforethe program’s commencement due to personaltravel or for any other reason. As mentioned above, studentmedical insurance is not in force either before theprogram start date or after the program end date.You may have to get a new registration with theImmigration Office as well. PASSPORT INFORMATIONTo participate in this program, you will need a signed passport that is valid for at least sixmonths after the end of the program. If necessary, apply for a new passport or renewal immediately. US Citizens: consult US State Department information athttp://travel.state.gov/passport/passport 1738.html for passport processing times andapplication procedures. Non-US Citizens: contact your embassy or consulate.You may need to expedite your passport application in order to meet visa application deadlines.Please check with your admissions counselor at studyabroad@sit.edu or (888) 272-7881 to discusswhether you should expedite your application.VISA INFORMATIONA visa is an official endorsement from a foreign government permitting entry into and travel within aparticular country or region for a specified period of time. A visa may be glued or stamped directlyinto an applicant’s passport or be on a separate paper or insert.Students with US passports:For this program, students with USpassports will need [a multiple entry/exit“S” student visa for Mongolia.]Processing time for this visa is around [oneto two weeks].Students with US passports will obtain theirtourist visa for Russia (Siberia) fromMongolia.Further information about visa applicationprocesses, if applicable, will be sent by email from your admissions counselor in[mid-July] for fall semesters and [mid-endNovember] for spring semesters. DO NOTapply for any visas until you receive thisinformation.Students with non-US passports:Students without a US passport may be subject toadditional or different requirements for obtaining avisa or meeting other conditions of entry into thecountry or countries listed above. Many countriesrequire individuals to apply for visas in person at therelevant embassy or consulate located in theircountry of citizenship. We strongly recommend thatyou contact the embassy of each country theprogram will be traveling to very early in the processto confirm visa and/or entry requirements applicableto your country of citizenship and determine nextsteps while allowing plenty of time to apply. If theforeign consulate permits non-US passport holdersto apply for the required visa from within the UnitedStates, applicants are encouraged to contactTravisa Visa Services. GENERAL VISA ANDPASSPORT NOTES FOR ALLPARTICIPANTS You are responsible for complying with allvisa procedures and deadlines. Keep in mind that procedures and fees aresubject to change at the discretion of theembassy or consulate with jurisdiction overyour application. Students should doublecheck visa procedures prior to sendingmaterials to ensure accuracy. Issuance of visas is at the sole discretion ofthe applicable consulate or embassy; SITassumes no responsibility for the issuanceor denial of any visa. Please make a copy of the first two pages ofyour passport (one of which has yourphoto), and give these photocopies to youracademic director once you arrive. You may also need to bring your yellowWHO vaccination card or a copy of yourimmunization record; please see the Safety,Security, and Health pre-departuredocument for more details. Students are responsible for their ownpassports. The program may hold passportsfor students when at the program site andwhen on excursion. Students should havepassports on their person during ISP.Throughout the term, students should keepa copy of their passport and visa on theirperson at all times.
