Sage the Nevada College Saving Desert Tortoise, is making goals and saving for college. Sageand his friends are learning that meeting goals takes planning, and it isn’t always easy. Fortunately, Sage isdeveloping strong character traits and will stick to his plan to reach his goals.ImplementationObjectiveShare a little of your college experience and use videoof college campuses and marching bands to quicklybuild background. If time permits have your studentslisten to the marching band and march around theroom. This Sage lesson will focus on how choosing an achievable goal and making a step by stepplan sets students up success! Enjoy a new call and response that focuses on the college goal.ImplementationPlay a college fight song, and have students marchto the meeting place for lesson. Use class whiteboard to write Sage’s goal (go to college). Havestudents tell you Sage’s plans to achieve his goal(work hard, good grades, talk to his parents andteacher about goals, save money for college).Read “Sage Saves” e-book NV529.ORGDiscuss the difference between short and long withregards to time. Engage students in a conversationabout things they may have to wait a short time for, likemorning or lunch recess. 9This Sage lesson will focus on achieving goals that require a plan and take a long time to complete.The conversation of perseverance and personal desire to accomplish the goal of going to college isdiscussed. Sage is sticking to his plan to go to college by saving coins and dollars. He is determined tomeet his goal by making sure financial gifts, money earned by doing chores and other jobs is put in hiscollege savings account. As a college graduate you are aware of many ways to pay for college. Shareyour first hand knowledge with your students. Share that to make your dream of becoming a collegegraduate come true, you had to stick to your plan and work hard.
