Over 150 big band music enthusiasts attendedincluding Mr Charles Seal, AUSA Monmouth Chapter Newsletter Editor and COL (R)Daniel “Larry” Rubini, the Army Reserve Ambassador for PA, AUSA member and thechair of The Friends of Washington Crossing Park Reenactors Operations Committee.COL (R) Rubini, dressed in his traditional Continental Uniform, was the Masterof Ceremonies for the Concert. The show highlighted several of the band’s MusicPerformance Teams with jazz, classical and pop selections as well as songs usingthe entire 40 member band. The audience was “blown away” during the performanceof “Stars and Stripes Forever” and the playing of the Military Songs: Army - “Marchalong, sing our song.”, Navy - “Anchors Aweigh my boys.”, Marine Corps “From the halls of Montezuma.”, Air Force - “Off we go into the wild blue yonder.”and Coast Guard - “From Aztec shore to Arctic shore.”. Following the concert,was a picture taking session outside of the auditorium.The 78th Army Band, under the command of CW3 Luis Santiago, is one of thepremier musical ambassadors for the 99th Readiness Division, United States ArmyReserve at Fort Dix, NJ commanded by MG Troy D Kok. As an Army Reserve band,the 78th trains and performs one weekend a month and performs two weeks of activeduty each year. The 78th Army Band consists of over 40 talented musicians fromthroughout the Northeast footprint of the 99th ReadinessDivision from Massachusetts to Virginia to Kentucky.The mission of the band is to furnish music wheneverand wherever assigned while serving our nation and ourcommunity. They perform at numerous events throughoutthe Northeast and overseas and led the 2018 NationalMemorial Day Parade in Washington, DC. Over 100 golfers andengaged citizens attended including AUSA MonmouthChapter Board Members Mr Charles Seal, NewsletterEditor and Ms Terry Madden and NJROTC Senior NavalScience Instructor Major (R) Gregory Penczak USMC.The event included a BBQ Lunch Buffet, a Shotgun StartScramble format Golf Tournament and a Buffet DinnerReception with a donation basket raffle and awardspresentation. A donation check of 100 was presentedto the NJROTC Parents Club from the AUSA MonmouthChapter. Highlighted duringthe presentation were two upcoming events, Cadet LT William G Dean’sService Dogs Initiative, “Pairing and Caring for Our Veterans” on August 4,2018 and the Gingerbread Ball on December 1, 2018 to support the FisherHouse Foundation. Fall Newsletter 2018Veterans Claims ClinicJoann Downey with Veteranj u ly 14, 2 0 1 8The New Jersey State Legislators from the 11thLegislative district (Senator Vin Gopal, AssemblymanEric J Houghtaling and Assemblywoman Joann L.Downey), in partnership with the Newark Regional Officeof the NJ Department of Veterans Affairs, the TintonFalls Community-Based Outpatient Clinic and the SocialSecurity Administration hosted a Veterans Claims Clinicat Monmouth University, West Long, NJ. Attending fromthe AUSA Monmouth Chapter was Board Member LTC(R) Richard Gaudio who networked with the Veteransand promoted the mission and benefits of AUSA.More than 80 Veterans received answers to theirquestions plus resources and information to assist themwith obtaining benefits and entitlements. Representativeswere readily available to answer questions, submitclaims, and determine the status of pending claims.Ensuring that Veterans have all of the information andresources they need to access their VA benefits is atop priority of the NJ State Legislators that represent thecitizens of Monmouth County. Moderating the workshop was Ms Susan Merrill O’Connor,Communications Specialist for the Center for Non-Profits.Very informative presentations on how non-profits can use bestsocial media practices were provided by presenters Ms Casey DeStefanoand Ms Kim Keating. For more than 35 years, the Center for NonProfits remains New Jersey’s only umbrella organization forall charities in the state. Following the Social Hour,over 200 attendees gathered in the dining room for the the 99thsannual Dining Out and to celebrate the 100th anniversary of thefounding of the 99th Division that was constituted in Camp Wheeler,GA on July 23, 1918.The agenda included Posting of the Colors, the TraditionalMilitary Toasts, POW/MIA Ceremony, Dinner, Cake Cutting Ceremony,Guest Speaker, Retiring of the Colors and dancing to the music of the99ths 78th Army Band. During dinner, the guests were entertainedby the USO Team out of Metropolitan New York.The Guest Speaker was MG (R) William D R Waff, previousCommander of the 99th from 2010 to 2013. Of special significancewas the presentation of the Distinguished Service Medal by MG Kokto BG (R) Michaelene A Kloster for Exceptionally Meritorious Servicein a duty of great Responsibility. Fall Newsletter 2018Cadet William G Dean’s Service DogsInitiative Fundraiseraugust 04, 2018Cadet LT William G Dean, a senior at ColtsNeck High School (CNHS), AUSA Monmouth Chaptermember and a Cadet Officer in the Navy Junior ReserveOfficers Training Corps (NJROTC) program, hostedhis Service Dogs Initiative Fundraiser – Pairing andCaring for Our Veterans at Bucks Mill Park, ColtsNeck, NJ. There were over 120 attendees including6 organizations with Display/Information tables,Veterans, engaged citizens and special guest MsLillian G Burry, Freeholder Deputy Director, MonmouthCounty Board of Chosen Freeholders. Representingthe AUSA Monmouth Chapter were COL (R) SamuelFuoco, President; Ms Jackie Berman, VP Social Mediaand Mr Charles Seal, Newsletter Editor. Proceeds fromthis fundraising event went to the AUSA MonmouthChapter to benefit its Service Dog Initiative.The event included a buffet style BBQ, drinks,vendors, inflatables, live music, a gift basket auctionand a 50/50 raffle. Following the posting of the Colorsby the NJROTC Color Guard, welcoming remarkswere provided by Cadet Dean and his parents Victoriaand Chris. Operation Iraqi Freedom Veteran RobertoZambrano, with his Service Dog Sophie, gave aninspiring speech on what a Service Dog meant to him.On behalf of the Monmouth Chapter, COL(R) Fuoco accepted a check for 15,000 from theDean family. COL (R) Fuoco and Mr Seal chaired theMonmouth Chapter Display/Information table thatcontained a full array of AUSA Magazines, Newsletters,brochures, membership applications, T-Shirts andgive-away items for interested individuals. Fall Newsletter 2018NJARNG Officer Candidate School Graduation,Class #61august 05, 2018Officer Candidates of Class#61 receivedtheir 2nd Lieutenant bars after completing trainingat the New Jersey Army National Guard (NJARNG)Officer Candidate School (OCS) administered bythe 254th Regiment (CA) at the New Jersey NationalGuard Training Center, Sea Girt, NJ. Pinning 2ndLieutenant bars on the 12 newest NJARNG Officerswas BG Jemal J Beale, The Adjutant General (TAG)of NJ. In attendance was Ms Susan DiVila, NJ StateAUSA President and former AUSA Monmouth ChapterPresident; COL (R) Dennis Dougherty, AUSA FirstRegion President; 254th Regiment (CA) Soldiers;Family Members and Guests. Ms DiVila presenteda recognition plaque to the Distinguished Graduateof Class#61, 2nd Lieutenant Carlos A Pereira. Ofsignificance, 2LT Krista McDonald, a Class#61 OCSgraduate, was the “first” female to branch infantryout of the NJARNG OCS program since the femaleexclusion in 1994 was rescinded in 2013.The 13 Jan 1994 Secretary of Defense Memo: DirectGround Combat Definition and Assignment Rulestated in part, “.women shall be excluded fromassignment to units below the brigade level whoseprimary mission is to engage in direct combat onthe ground.”, This memo was rescinded by the 24Jan 2013 Secretary of Defense Memo: Eliminationof the 1994 Direct Ground Combat Definition andAssignment Rule.OCS Graduating Class #61The NJARNG traces its roots to the 1668 Militia Actpassed by the first New Jersey General Assemblymeeting in Elizabethtown, now Elizabeth, NJ. This Actrequired able-bodied men between the ages of 16 and60 to serve in the local militia. Since then, the CitizenSoldiers of the NJARNG have defended the homelandand fought our nation’s wars. The versatility of theNJARNG enables its troops to respond to domesticemergencies, combat missions, counter-drug efforts,reconstruction missions and more with speed, strengthand efficiency. Whether the call is coming from NewJersey’s Governor or directly from the President of theUnited States, Guard Soldiers are always ready andalways there. Fall Newsletter 2018Advanced Career Institute (ACI) Becomes AUSAMonmouth Chapter Community Partneraugust 08, 2018Mr Frank A Preston, President of the AdvancedCareer Institute (ACI) Medical & Dental Schoolinvited COL (R) Samuel Fuoco, President of theAUSA Monmouth Chapter, to their training facilityin Eatontown, NJ to present a briefing covering theMission and Functions of the AUSA Monmouth Chapter.Also attending the briefing were Ms Karen Brey, ACIVice President and Director of Career Services and MrCharles Seal, Monmouth Chapter Newsletter Editor.Prior to the briefing, Ms Brey provided a very informativetour of the ACI facility.COL (R) Fuoco presented the Monmouth ChapterMission Briefing, “Voice for the Army - Support for theSoldier” and each person was provided with a briefingpacket. Similarly, Mr Preston provided an overview ofACI with an information packet. ACI was particularlyinterested in the Monmouth Chapter’s ScholarshipProgram and expressed a willingness to participate inestablishing scholarships for ACI students. The meetingconcluded with ACI joining AUSA as a MonmouthChapter Community Partner. The National Defense Authorization Actof 2008 established the YRRP to assist NationalGuard and Reserve members as they transitionbetween their military and civilian roles. The YRRP is aDepartment of Defense (DoD) program that providesReservists, National Guardsmen and their families withaccess to programs, resources, referrals and servicesto minimize stress during all phases of the deploymentcycle. Reintegration during post-deployment is acritical time for Soldiers as they often live far frommilitary installations and other members of theirunits. Commanders and leaders play a critical role inassuring that post-deployment Reservists, NationalGuardsmen and their families attend Yellow Ribbonevents where they can access information on healthcare, education and training opportunities, financialassistance and legal benefits.

Fall Newsletter 201821st Annual Day at the Racesaugust 24, 2018Ms Anna Mayer, President/Director/Administrator of theEatontown Industrial Parks Association (EIPA), a CommunityPartner of the AUSA Monmouth Chapter, hosted EIPA’s 21st AnnualDay at the Races at Monmouth Park Raceway, Oceanport, NJ. Thisextravaganza took place in the Patio Terrace Rooftop located onthe second floor of the Racetrack Clubhouse with a view of theentire racetrack from the finish line. The venue included a premiumluncheon buffet, cash bar, betting staff on site and roamingphotographer.
