Welcomefrom theConferenceChairA/Prof Peter VeitchThe Australian and New Zealand Conference onOptics and Photonics (ANZCOP) conference seriesintegrates the Australian Conference on Optics,Lasers and Spectroscopy (ACOLS) and the 40thAustralian Conference on Optical Fibre Technology(ACOFT). ANZCOP 2015 is the second suchconference, and is run under the auspices of theAustralian Optical Society and Engineers Australia.Optics and photonics research continuesto be a dynamic and exciting field orresearch internationally and withinAustralia. It can be used to ask andanswer fundamental questions aboutquantum mechanics and atomic physicsand to probe chemical reactions, to makenew types of chemical and environmentalsensors, new biological sensors andmedical diagnostics and devices, bettercomputers and communications systems,better fundamental standards andmetrology, and even to measure elusiveripples in the curvature of space-time.The local organizing committee hasassembled an exciting program forANZCOP 2015, featuring a wide range ofplenary and invited talks that I am sureyou will find enjoyable and inspiring. Itfeatures a plenary talk by the 2015 FrewFellow of the Australian Academy ofOn SiteContactsSciences: Professor Ursula Keller fromETH Zurich.
