Jonathon has challenged meto use our art form to grapple withthe question of suffering, and he hassteadied me with his courage. Most recently, the company haspremiered Betroffenheit, a co-creation withplaywright and actor Jonathon Young ofElectric Company Theatre.Jonathon Young (co-creator, writer,performer) is co-artistic director ofElectric Company Theatre. In 2015 hewas commissioned by Nederlands DansTheater to write The Statement, a oneact play directed by Crystal Pite. The playwas performed at New York City Center inNovember 2016. With Electric Company,he has collaborated on the making of over20 original productions including Tearthe Curtain! (a film/theater hybrid for ArtsClub Theatre and Canadian Stage), NoExit (a re-working of Jean-Paul Sartre’splay performed in San Francisco at theAmerican Conservatory Theatre), andStudies in Motion (Vancouver Playhouse,Edmonton Citadel, Theatre Calgary, andCanadian Stage in Toronto). In addition,Mr. Young works across Canada as afreelance actor. She was a co-founder and teacherfor Artists Striving To End Poverty. Sheco-started a multimedia dance theatercompany called Shook Ones in 2014. Ms.Salgado has been a proud member of KiddPivot since 2009.Jermaine Maurice Spivey (performer) wasborn in Baltimore, Maryland where hebegan his dance training and later attendedperforming arts high school at the BaltimoreSchool for the Arts. After graduating witha BFA in dance from The Juilliard School in2002, he moved to Lisbon, Portugal wherehe danced with Ballet Gulbenkian from2002–05. In 2005, he joined the CullbergBallet, where he met Crystal Pite, andperformed with the company until summer2008. He has received several awards indance including the National Foundationfor Advancement in the Arts First LevelScholarship and the Princess Grace Award.Mr. Spivey has been performing with KiddPivot since August 2008.Born in Prince George, British Columbia,Tiffany Tregarthen’s (performer) earlymentors include Margo Hartley, RosemarieHarris, Linda Klassen, Rachael Poirier, andYaming Li. Her professional career beganwith Mia Michaels RAW and Wes Veldinkin New York and POZ Dance Theatre inSeoul. She spent two years of professionaldevelopment centered in Antwerp with herpartner David Raymond before returning toco-create Out Innerspace Dance Theatreand its associated post-secondary danceprogram Modus Operandi. Additionally,she created a work for Les Grands BalletsCanadiens through their National YoungChoreographer Competition; has dancedwith The Turning Point Ensemble, RadixTheatre, The Beijing Modern DanceCompany, The Vancouver Opera, The 605Collective, Wen Wei Dance, and JustineChambers; and joined Kidd Pivot in 2013.Owen Belton (composer, sound designer),who is based in Vancouver, Canada,graduated from Simon Fraser University in1993 with a degree in fine and performingarts (concentration in music), and studiedacoustic and computer music compositionwith Owen Underhill and Barry Truax. Hehas been writing music for dance since1994 when he created the music forShapes Of A Passing, Crystal Pite’s piecefor Toronto-based Ballet Jorgen. Sincethen, he has created many scores fordance companies including Kidd Pivot,The National Ballet of Canada, NederlandsDans Theater, Cullberg Ballet in Stockholm,Ballet Nuremberg, Oregon Ballet Theatre,and 420 People in Prague. Since 2008, hehas also been creating sound design andcomposing for theater, working mainly fortheater companies in Vancouver. A graduate from École supérieure dedanse du Québec, he has been on stagewith Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, theBadisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, andLes Ballets Jazz de Montréal, as well aswith Canadian contemporary dance iconssuch as La Fondation Jean-Pierre Perrault,Paul-André Fortier, Louise Lecavalier, andCrystal Pite. He hasworked as a production manager, technicaldirector, lighting director, and stage managerfor festivals, venues, and companiesin New Zealand, Australia, the UnitedKingdom, Europe, on cruise ships, and nowin Canada. In addition to his role at KiddPivot he is currently involved as technicaldirector with Vancouver-based companiesOut InnerSpace Dance Theatre and TaraCheyenne Performance. He has recentlyworked with the Auckland International ArtsFestival in New Zealand (venue manager),Push International Arts Festival (venuetechnical director), Vancouver Folk MusicFestival, Aeriosa Dance Society, SquamishValley Music Festival, Holy Body Tattoo,Green Thumb Theatre, and Wen Wei Dance.Yes, he does often import New Zealandmarmite and will happily go bungee jumpingat a moment’s notice.13
