2. Using the Solution (Online)HOW TO USE THIS GUIDEThe HRL User Guide lays out basic descriptions of functions within the tool. While the guide does notdetail all the possible outcomes of the various functions, it provides an introduction to each functionand some basic guidelines to help you troubleshoot unexpected results. The user guide is laid out tofollow the order of HRL’s functional tabs as they appear on the landing page. The Launch tutorial button, appears on the bottom left of the application wizard window. By selectingthis you will launch a tutorial describing all features of the application.Click the Next or Previous button to cycle through the features. 2.2 Map FunctionsThe HRL application provides a number of functions (tools/widgets) available for use, such as: specifymap background, identify resources, share information, or modify the map display itself.2.2.1Zoom In/OutThere are several ways to zoom in or out on the map:Use the zoom in/out buttons located on the map toolbar, double-click anywhere in the mapto zoom in one level, or the mouse scroll-wheel.2.2.2Search by AddressThe HRL application allows users to enter a street address or City and State to zoom in on the areaof interest. Click on the search bar at the top of the map to enter the information of your area ofinterest.Select the matching address that fits your area of interest.HUD Resource Locator User Guide March 2016Page 17

2.2.3LayersUsers can click the Layer Icon to expand a toolbar to find information about thefollowing: BackgroundsLayers2.2.4 Specify BackgroundClick the Background button to display the eight (8) background types for a displayed map. Click anyof the images to change the backgroundtype. Descriptions of the backgrounds canbe found below: Light Gray Canvas - Draws attentionto your thematic content byproviding a neutral background withminimal colors, labels, and features Streets - Presents street-level andhighway-level data for the world Satellite – Displays satellite imageryfor the world and high-resolutionaerial imagery for many areas Imagery with Labels – Displaysimagery plus layers showingboundaries, places, andtransportation, including streetnames Topographic – Displays a topographic map which includes boundaries, cities, waterfeatures, physiographic features, parks, landmarks, transportation, and buildingsHUD Resource Locator User Guide March 2016Page 18

Oceans – Displays as a basemap which includes bathymetry, surface and subsurface featurenames, and derived depths. This map is designed to be used as a basemap by marine GISprofessionals and as a reference map by anyone interested in ocean data. 2.3 Creating Reports2.3.1Export Search ResultsSelect the Export to Excel or Export to PDF button from search results, allowing the user to generate adetailed information report about the area displayed on the screen. The user can select between Exceland PDF formats.Please note the notification box if you are using a mobile device.You will see that the job is processing within the pop-up window.Once the job has finished processing click the Download button, or right click and save as.2.3.2 Export FormatsExcel: By selecting the excel format, users can download detailed information about the area displayedon the screen.
