The backbone etherlinkages and pendant hydroxyl groupspromote wetting and bonding to polarsubstrates and fillers. Structurally, Phenoxy Resin is a polyhydroxyether having terminal alpha-glycol groups.Weight-average molecular weightsrange from approximately 25,000 toabove 60,000. The highest polymericspecies exceed 250,000 daltons.Polydispersity is very narrow, typicallyless than 4.0. An average moleculecontains 40 or more regularly spacedhydroxyl groups suitable for crosslinking for thermoset applications. Thesependant hydroxyls are excellent sitesfor crosslinking in thermoset applications at elevated temperatures andeven at ambient conditions.Phenoxy Resins are compatible withmany polymers, and they are efficientflexibilizers for crosslinked phenolic andepoxy formulations in adhesives, coatings, and composites. Phenoxy Resinshave shown utility in compatibilizingblends of diverse plastic materials. Phenoxy Resin has a solubility parameterof 10.68, enabling excellent compatibility with polar materials and surfaceslike polyurethanes, polyesters, and nylons.
