Introduction:This document has been written to help you get up and running with the new Cisco7940 & 7942 IP Phones.This document will show you how to make and receive a call. How Do I:How Do I?Place a Call?Put a Call onHold?SolutionLift the handset and dial the numberORPress the NewCall softkey and dial thenumber (Enter the number with the phoneon-hook, then press the Dial softkey or liftthe receiver)Press the Redial softkeyPress the Hold softkey button.The call will display a paused symbolTo return to the call, press the ResumebuttonTipA call on hold remainsactive even though youand the other partycannot hear eachother. How Do I?Operate theLCD Screen?SolutionTo control the cursor:Press the softkey to re-position thecursor.Press the softkey to delete a characteror digit in an entry.To select a menu item:TipOperating your phone’sLCD screen is easy.Use the Navigationbutton, softkeys, andthe keypad to makeyour selections.Tip To exit out of amenu on your phone’sLCD screen, press theExit softkey.Press the Navigation button to select(highlight) a menu item. Then press theSelect Softkey.ORPress the number key on your phone’s dialpad that corresponds to the item number inthe menu.Adjust theLCDContrast?Use UnityVoice Mail?Press the Settings button.Select User Preferences (7942 only)Select Contrast from the menu.Press the Up or Down softkeys to set thedesired contrast.Press the Save softkey to accept yourchanges.Set up voice mail:Press the Messages button on your Cisco IPPhone or dial 85555 and enter your PIN(12345) when prompted. How Do I?View myMissedCalls?Set Up aConferenceCall?Use CallWaiting?SolutionTo view your call records:Press the Directorybutton.Select Missed Calls (1).Or choose another list:Received Calls (2)Placed Calls (3)To dial from a call record:Step 1 Follow the steps above to open yourMissed, Received, or Placed Calls directory.Step 2 Use the Navigation button to select(highlight) a particular record.Step 3 If necessary, use the EditDialsoftkey to add digits to the front of thenumber.Step 4 Lift the handset or press the Dialsoftkey.To turn a two-party call into aconference call:Step 1 During a call, press the Confrnsoftkey. Doing so automatically activates anew line and puts the first party on hold.Step 2 Place a call to another number orextension.Step 3 When the call connects, pressConfrn again to add the new party to theconference call.Repeat these steps to add parties to theconference call.To answer the new call, press the Answersoftkey. When you do so, the original call isput on hold.To return to the original call, select it (usingthe directional pad) and press the Resumesoftkey. You can use the Hold and Resumesoftkeys and directional pad to switchbetween the calls.6 - Document located within technology services on NTU.ac.ukTipYour phone’s LCDdisplay will indicate ifyou have missed a call.Use the Directoriesmenu to view (and dialfrom) call records inyour Missed Calls,Received Calls, andPlaced Callsdirectories.A call record containsthe time and date ofthe call, and a phonenumber (if available).Note Once theconference call initiatordisconnects, noadditional parties canbe added.If you are on a callwhen another callcomes in, you will heara call waiting tone andsee caller IDinformation on thephone’s LCD screen.

How Do I?Transfer aCall?SolutionStep 1 During a call, press the Trnsfersoftkey. Doing so automatically puts the callon hold.Step 2 Dial the number or office extensionto which you want to transfer the call.Step 3 When the call rings on the otherend, press Trnsfer again. Or, when theparty answers, announce the call and thenpress Trnsfer.TipIf necessary, press theHold button to returnto the original call.Forward AllCalls?To forward all of your incoming calls toanother number:Step 1 Press the CFwdAll softkey. You willhear two beeps.Step 2 Enter the number to which you wantto forward all of your calls. Enter thenumber exactly as you would if you wereplacing a call to that number.Step 3 After you enter the number, you willhear two beeps.The LCD screen displays a messageconfirming the number to which your callsare being forwarded.Note To cancel callforwarding, press theCfwdAll softkey.7 - Document located within technology services on NTU.ac.uk You can use callforwarding to sendyour incoming calls toanother Cisco IP Phoneor to a traditionalanalog phone. If call forwarding isactive and there is noanswer at theforwarded number (bya person, answeringmachine, or voice mailsystem), the call willbe redirected to yourvoice mail system

Use aHeadsetPress the Headset buttonif you use aheadset (It will glow green when activated)To answer a new call press the headsetbutton again.
